Yup that's a safedisc copy protection. The only way ATM you can play it is to
use no-safedisk path on the game.

What does your app does what it crashes? Please be more specific. You have the
source, tell as what you call (what function(s) that lead to this crash). And
please keep one bug per, well one bug. Firebird is something different and not
related to this problem.
Also please try it with latest wine version.

I am useing KDE.
Kernal is up-to-date as far as yum is concerned. Killing wine and its friends
does nothing, as far as rectifing the problem. When I start it up again, it
simply will hang. As I said, every now and then it works...

You should check if wine is still running "ps ax | grep wine". And if so, kill
it "killall -9 wine-preloader". Then check again. If you see zombies then you
need to update your kernel. Also what window manager are you using?

I guess you'll have to get the relay log (WINEDEBUG=+relay wine blah.exe &>
/tmp/relay.log). Search for message box text, and go backwards looking at what
it's calling to check if you are admin or not.

I tried autodetect, it said OSS, ALSA, so I ran through trying ALSA, OSS, and
ESD (I started it specifically for this), to no avail.
My actual driver, incidentally, is ALSA's intel8x0 driver.

Disable xrandr and enable xvidmode. Or other way around. Also you can use
"virtual desktop".

What sound driver are you using? Try changing it to ALSA/OSS/ARTS/JACK/etc (what
ever you have).

Summary: Hearts of Iron 2 outputs impossible/strange struct size
0, runs very slow
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.1.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-ddraw
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: scott(a)open-vote.org
The game Hearts of Iron 2 runs perfectly from what I can tell, with one
exception: it is very very slow.
This error fills the terminal window:
err:ddraw:Main_DirectDrawSurface_GetSurfaceDesc Impossible/Strange struct size 0.
The other possible cause of the slowness is that this application opens
thousands of little bitmap files, much more than a typical Wine application
would be expected to, so perhaps that's related.

Summary: InstallShield very slow when copying many small files
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.1.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-ole
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: scott(a)open-vote.org
InstallShield seems to run very slowly when it is moving many small files,
rather than a few big files. This results in programs that have hundreds of
little bitmap files to install taking several hours, like Hearts of Iron 2.
