The patch is not in Wine, I was waiting for you to try it ;-)
I'd try myself but the download link is broken, could you fix that?

Is the stub in version 0.0.27? If so, using the stub does not work.

RE:
> What will happen if you start Wine with following command? WINEDEBUG=-all wine
photoshop.exe
The startup time is still very very slow but obviously without the "PIDL" errors
being dumped to the shell. It seems to be hanging the longest on the "Loading
Plugins" part of startup.

May I share your setup.ilg file on the Heroes V AppDB page, so others can
patch their games?
If yes, what is your version of the game? (Normal or Collector's Edition, and
what language version; EU, US, Spanish etc.)

Tried with latest GIT... the problem is still there. this may be a case of wine
not being bug compatible with DirectX. Problem existed since at least version
0.9.9 and in several later versions including 0.9.27

First I used the distro version - now I have installed
wine-snapshot-0.9.27.20061213-12.1
tried to build from source but the automatic configuration
has some trouble with the 64bit libs and doesn't find the
32bit version - in most cases i could solve that manually
but compilation faild with:
../libs/wine/libwine.so: undefined reference to `dlsym'
../libs/wine/libwine.so: undefined reference to `dlerror'
../libs/wine/libwine.so: undefined reference to `dladdr'
../libs/wine/libwine.so: undefined reference to `dlopen'
../libs/wine/libwine.so: undefined reference to `dlclose'

Summary: DirectX sample crash due to Unimplemented function
usp10.dll.ScriptString_pSize
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.23.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Keywords: download
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-usp10.dll
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: xerox_xerox2000(a)yahoo.co.uk
Hi, some of the directX Samples that failed before, now have started to work,
probably due to Markus Amsler's patches. However, they only work with native
usp10. When run with builtin usp10, they crash with a call to Unimplemented
function usp10.dll.ScriptString_pSize.
One example is the OptimizedMesh.exe sample. BTW, these samples need Arial.TTF
tp be present, otherwise you won't see any text...
