Summary: Thief D3D renders VERY slowly, with blocks of colour
drawn
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.18.
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: a.hurst(a)shef.ac.uk
As of version 0.9.16:
In Thief: The Dark Project (Gold) Direct3D renders very slowly - roughly one
frame a minute - and is sporadically overdrawn with solid blocks of Red, Yellow,
Cyan, Magenta
Runs very well under 0.9.15.
Gfx card is Nvidia TNT2 with 16MB vram.
As of 0.9.16 noticed new TRACE output from dlls/wined3d/device.c
"..IWineD3DDeviceImpl_GetAvailableTextureMem: stub, emulating 64MB for now"
This code hasn't changed since 0.9.15, it's just started being called!
Might not be helpful, but recompiling with "static unsigned int
emulated_textureram = 16*1024*1024" - to match my GFX card's actual VideoRam
doesn't fix.
To reproduce - simply start/load game - menu system runs as normal, loads game,
then game engine runs as described.
On x86, Gentoo Linux, Xorg-7.0

Just tested this on native Win2000. It doesn't start there either. I get the
same Messagebox, with the same Error Message.

Hello Mike,
thank you for testing. You are right, probably I did something different: I
forgot to specify that I did not install *all* software from python-2.4.3.msi; I
selected "Register Extensions" and "Utility Scripts" only. If you select
everything (the default), pythonw.exe is installed. However, I did an
installation under MS Windows right now, and choosing just "Register Extensions"
and "Utility Scripts" has no effect on installation of pythonw.exe there. Also,
the file selector is available under MS Windows, and typing an installation path
manually has the desired effect. Sorry for giving you incomplete information!

When you're in your "Mail view", type "abdc". It should open a search text box,
but containing "bcda". The first character is always last...
