Summary: MSN Messenger crashes due to missing BSTR length field
Product: Wine
Version: CVS
Platform: PC
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-ole
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: bobbyg(a)gmx.net
Just after the main window appears I get a page fault due to the following:
trace:variant:VariantCopy (0x32fba4->(VT_EMPTY),0x32fc5c->(VT_BSTR))
Src=L"about:blank"
trace:variant:VariantClear (0x32fba4->(VT_EMPTY))
trace:ole:SysStringByteLen (0xef9168 = L"about:blank") -> length = 4543317
trace:ole:SysAllocStringByteLen (L"about:blank", 4543317)
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00f71000 at address 0xb7d0e98c
(thread 0009), starting debugger...
The BSTR does not contain the length. But I don't know where it is coming from.

Sorry, the problem was in Hitman Contracts itself. I'll post instructions about
fixing it to appdb.

Switching to tty, and then back to X clears all background text. Maybe someone
finds this usefull.

I am using the official nvidia linux drivers.
My os is Kubuntu Dapper, with latest updates.
I tried clean build even that does not solve this one.
Even in the regression testing is 0.9.17 is showing the problem, which should
not be( as I have logged tested using 0.9.17 and it was working fine, i do have
pic's to prove that)

I get this too, however, it is more random.
It appears to me that the textures are actually there. When I run around I see
them flash up every now and then. And it only seems to happen in busy places.
Kaineng Center and Lions Arch where there are a lot of user skins for armor.
It doesn't always seem to do it either. It looks like the black is overlapping
the correct texture. I think black is normal before textures load. My copy is
still loading data so maybe that is why.
