0.929 moo2 errors
after downloading the new version (via synaptic) I simply ran it again. These
are the errors. ALthough I did not watch the entire intro, the stuttering
appeared to be consistent, maybe 1.5-2 times per second. A blank screen with my
system mouse cursor (white) appeared after I pressed the spacebar to skip the
rest of the intro. these are the console messages I saw upon exiting.

Summary: Master of Orion II mouse hang/music stuttering on 6.06
dapper
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-directx-ddraw
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: wnpersonwantiwn(a)hotmail.com
fter running moo2 at the console (via Orion95.exe after navigating to its
directory) the intro screens ran. When it came to the intro movie, the sound
began to stutter mildly. As the movie progressed the stutters occured more and
more frequently, from about once every 5-10 seconds to 3-4 times per second.
The first time I ran moo2, no menu came up after I pressed space to clear the
then-horrible intro movie (I pressed alt-f4 after a few seconds of blank
screen). The second time I ran moo2 I skipped the intro after hearing the first
stutter and got onto the menu, and saw a double cursor. The menu itself
stuttered mildy and was quite slow. I tryed to start a new game and went to the
first screen (universe variables and creation) when the cursor froze (after
perhaps a few seconds time). again I alt-f4ed. This is where I am at now.
After previous moo2 probs and reading about other moo2 probs, I realize some of
this is pure duplication. As an unexperienced bug-poster however, I don't know
how to incorporate my unique stuttering experiences with the hanging double
mouse-cursor problems. next is an attachment of the console.

http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=210 contains all information and
links to bugs that are available for MOO2.
For me, MOO2 runs fine except for the sound, and IMHO it's still an unsolved
problem why it works for some people but not for other people.
The best you can do is to add yourself to the Cc of the bugs affecting you, and
respond if anyone is asking for more information (you can also vote for the bugs
that affect you).
In all cases, please follow the "only one problem per bug" rule, otherwise
quickly a mess consisting of half a dozen issues mixed into a dozen bugs will
occur making everything unreadable.

adodb is part of Microsoft mdac. Presumably the CD should have a copy of
mdac_typ.exe (which is reditributable), which is intended to install the ado
components, or perhaps it has copies of some of the msado* DLLs.

This is the problem:
old_mmap(NULL, 1610612736, PROT_NONE,
MAP_PRIVATE|MAP_FIXED|MAP_ANONYMOUS|MAP_NORESERVE, -1, 0) = -1 ENOMEM (Cannot
allocate memory)
For some reason make causes the preloader reservation to fail; maybe it changes
the virtual size limit or something like that.

Okay. But how should I proceed now with these new and exciting/disappointing
bugs? I mean I understand that the initial bug has been solved, but as I am also
interested in a attaining a playable state in moo2, I would like to solve my new
problems. By combining this previous sentence with the fact that I am noobish
with linux (at best a mediocre end-user as of yet) and unfamiliar with these
forums, and you understand that I don't know how to proceed.

Sorry, forgot to note the file versions:
rc.exe is Microsoft (R) Windows (R) Resource Compiler Version 5.2.3668.0
rcdll.dll is Microsoft Windows Resource Compiler DLL 5.2.3668.0
(Both were from MSVC 7.1 with service pack 1)

Please one problem per bug. All the listed problems already have bugs associated
with them.
This one is a WONTFIX. You will get exactly the same behavior on windows running
game from the console from other then game's directory.
