The problem should be fixed by making a new .wine directory (backup current ~/.wine directory, e.g. mv to ~/.wine-old and invoke wineprefixcreate or any other application running wine). It won't work! That's essentially what you're doing! Heck it's even worse on windows since the registry is tied to the hardware you are using. At least wine has an ability to regenerate a registry on the fly where windows really does not. We know that the registry is a prone point of failure and that is why we ask you to do this. If you want to figure out how to reinstall wine without going through all the patches for WoW (which is entirely possible) then take this somewhere else.
