So how do I get it working? The installer (InstallShield) does not work. After manual install same problem, it does not work. I installed wine fresh. I ran it for the first time as my regular user, not from root. (Yes, I also ran it from root; I uninstalled and reinstalled to run it as the regular user.) I got the "Floating point exception" error and wine crashed. There is no ~/.wine directory, undoubtedly because the program never ran far enough to create it. I still don't see what exactly are you running? If you have 'cd /home/gary/.wine' core dumping, you have much bigger problems in your system!
