I've checked that adding execute permission to DOS memory is correct and sent
the patch to wine-patches.

Summary: Apophysis no longer works under wine
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.43.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P3
Component: wine-misc
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: e.reckase(a)gmail.com
CC: e.reckase(a)gmail.com
Having recently upgraded to 0.9.43, I attempted to run Apophysis 2.06c, and
have checked both Ubuntu and OpenSUSE platforms. Both result in the following
error:
fixme:actctx:parse_depend_manifests Could not find dependent assembly
L"Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls"
No window appears on the screen and the process seems to stop. Hitting ctrl-c
in the main window pops up a 'ctrl-c hit' box that cannot be closed without
killing the wine/Apophysis processes.
I have also tried older versions of Apophysis with the same error.

Please retest with Wine 0.9.43.
Pawel, can you explain what the hex editing does?

Well, the installers work without problems from some time so this bug can be
closed I guess. :)

I've tested it on 0.9.36 and with fresh install and fresh .wine on 0.9.29 and
it still was slow, using the CPU. So it's game or my hardware/graphic card
issue :) I'll try to get some testers on other hardware.

14 days since upgrade, no such crash encountered. Happily marking as FIXED (in
wine-0.9.42 of course).

Now I can't get it to start at all :(
At some point in the start screen (usually Fonts, sometimes "still
texture-something") it freezes with the following message:
(lots of the aforementioned fixmes)
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x7e73c8e0 "x11drv_main.c:
X11DRV_CritSection" wait timed out in thread 000d, blocked by 0018, retrying
(60 sec)
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x7eb59d20 "gdiobj.c: GDI_level"
wait timed out in thread 0018, blocked by 000d, retrying (60 sec)
This was also the message I got when it crashed in normal play (which it did
every few minutes). I thought the fixme: was related to that; maybe I was
wrong.
System is Linux xt4100 2.6.22-kamikaze5 #3 SMP Fri Aug 10 03:17:36 CEST 2007
x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU T5500 @ 1.66GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux, wine is
freshly built 43.
Should I open a new bug for this?
