Yeah, looks like it crashes differently now, crash looks sound related noW.
Maybe you could try run with sound disabled (in winecfg) and see if you can get
the original crash then, if ran with WINEDEBUG=+all. Attach logs please if that
helps

This sounds fixed then by wine/kernel updates.

It is my subjective impression that the crash occurs less frequently when the
"fidelity" setting is medium rather than low, especially when shields are in
play. I've taken to using medium fidelity despite the fact that it causes
chunks of the terrain to not be rendered. (enabling GLSL fixes this for some,
but not for me)

I recently got the game, and installed it from disc without any problems. Has
anyone who's had the problem tried it recently? It may be hardware/distro
specific.

Yes, I think that it should be closed as it is a performance issue with nVidia
nv (non acelerated) drivers and with ATI fglrx and ATI DRI opensource drivers.
So I don't think that there's anything wrong on the wine side, as I only
changed the video card and drivers in the same linux setup (I did not
reinstalled linux) and worked flawless with every package of wine I had built
in the past looking for a playable wine version.
So clearly it's not a wine fault.

Yes it seems to work, I only tried for a short while but I had the CPU usage
high and the game only had major lagg instead of the connection being
interrupted. This was with only ALSA enabled in winecfg.

I've just had a chat with some kernel developers about this issue. David Miller
wasn't around, but as he's the network subsystem maintainer, lots of people
confirmed that if he doesn't like this, it won't happen any time soon. So I'm
closing this bug as WONTFIX.
