This appears to still be an issue in the final release of 1.0. I just went to
install Guild Wars and I get zero sound, even using it's older -dsound engine
switch.
Other sound applications all work fine, cooperatively, too. Sound also works
from "winecfg", when I click on the sound test button.

Yes, commenting out those calls (leaving 'GLCheckCall's), the game engine can
run, and I can esc to the in-game menu and back to engine fine. No hang.
The in-game and startup menus are not drawn, however.

Alex,
I've finally gotten round to putting the old card back in:
The game does indeed hang immediately on starting the engine.
In dlls/ddraw/tests, make test gives:
$ make test
../../../tools/runtest -q -P wine -M ddraw.dll -T ../../.. -p ddraw_test.exe.so
d3d.c && touch d3d.ok
fixme:iphlpapi:NotifyAddrChange (Handle 0x619ac9e8, overlapped 0x619ac9cc):
stub
fixme:shell:DllCanUnloadNow stub
wine: configuration in '/home/ahurst/.wine' has been updated.
fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x32e7d8,0x00000000), stub!
fixme:d3d:WineD3D_ChoosePixelFormat Add OpenGL context recreation support to
SetDepthStencilSurface
fixme:d3d:IWineD3DDeviceImpl_SetLightEnable Too many concurrently active lights
fixme:d3d:IWineD3DDeviceImpl_SetLightEnable Too many concurrently active lights
d3d.c:1867: Test failed: CreateSurface returned: 8876086c
fixme:d3d:WineD3D_ChoosePixelFormat Add OpenGL context recreation support to
SetDepthStencilSurface
make: *** [d3d.ok] Error 1
I'm downloading the System Shock 2 demo. I'm betting on it doing the same
thing...

Can you check if commenting out some gl calls in
flush_to_framebuffer_drawpixels in dlls/wined3d/surface.c makes any difference
for the crash? In particular, two gldrawPixels calls near surface.c:1224 (it
may cause missing graphics but that doesn't matter).

in wine 1.0 it is still not working...
someone should change the priority of the bug to "Major"
many people could migrate to linux if the would have a fully working winamp
version (includes video,visualization)
thx a lot

Wine 1.0 has been released for Gutsy and I installed it. I have the same
issues. The application still does not work.
