I'm still running into this bug. I am running git 1.1.20 nvidia 180.44. I have
all my graphics settings to low at resolution 800x600. I have applied the patch
by henri. But it doesn't seem to solve the problem.
The bug has manifested itself in version 1.41 and 1.50 beta

Debug Error Messages in Acid Xpress 7
When trying to start Sony ACID sound editing software (Tested with Acid Xpress
7.0 and Acid Music Studio 7.0), the programs immediately exit after I attempt
to run them. This error occurs within the file MSVCR80.dll according to the
debugging output. This is being tested in Wine 1.1.21 on Ubuntu 9.04 i386. I've
attached log files that show the debug output.

Yes, it still does happen in wine-1.1.21.
It shows the same behavior as before, with DCOM98 from winetricks it does work
on more than two images, without DCOM98 using raw wine it does crash if I try
to average more than two images.

I can confirm this still is a problem in wine 1.1.21.
The freezes seem random, and they don't only happen in-game. I just had it
freeze on me while connecting to a server. Keyboard won't respond, only way to
solve is to manually reset computer.
I cannot confirm if this is a problem for other hl1 games, as I have none to
test with.
The freeze happens whether I use OGL, software or D3D rendering.
The last lines of the wine output were :
err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x7e462900 "x11drv_main.c:
X11DRV_CritSection" wait timed out in thread 0024, blocked by 0009, retrying
(60 sec)
fixme:dbghelp:EnumerateLoadedModulesW64 If this happens, bump the number in mod
err:dbghelp:pe_load_dbg_file Couldn't find .DBG file "COMCTL32.dbg" ("P")
wine: Critical section 7e462900 wait failed at address 0x7bc34c39 (thread
0024), starting debugger...
Sometimes only the first line appears. The addresses given are a bit different,
sometimes the same, in all cases. Same with the thread numbers.
At one point I had music playing in the background when the computer froze, but
the music continued playing til the end of the track. It did not move on to the
next track.
I tried turning off pulseaudio (killall pulseaudio) which seems to have
disabled the audio in-game. No change, the game still froze.

Still an issue in wine 1.1.21. I didn't try the new sdl.dll either.

Still present in wine 1.1.21.
The download link works again, btw.
