Still present in wine-1.3.9. Although the output trace is shorter and cleaner
(to me;)

As of wine 1.3.9, for what concerns the transparency of the icon background in
the application LTSPICE (invoked with the -nowine switch to make it run in the
standard MS windows way, rather than adopting wine-aware hacks) the bug is
still present.
See it by
1) downloading the application that is free to use from
http://www.linear.com/designtools/software/ and install it
2) start it with the -nowine switch
3) File -> new schematic
4) Simulate -> control panel
5) observe the background of the icons in the control panel tabs
6) retry on windows or without the -nowine switch to see how they should be.

Is there any reason that this bug is not marked as fixed (and its dupe #12808)?

Status on this bug? There's been a few commits that might fix it.

What should be possible, is that Wine converts a .lnk to .desktop when a
program copies it into any Desktop folder. When a program tries to move the
'lnk' away, the .desktop is converted back to .lnk. If a program tries to
rename/delete a .lnk on the desktop, it is done with the .desktop file. When a
program queries a list of files in the desktop folder, the .desktop files seem
(to the Windows program) to be named .lnk.
Just an idea how to solve this problem.

Reported fixed a long time ago. Check the FAQ for the DOS memory error.

It still doesn't work.
winevdm: Cannot start DOS application T:\prog\KCPSM3.EXE because the DOS memory
range is unavailable. Try running this application with DOSBox.
And indeed, it works in DOSBox. :)

Summary: Kindle For PC crashes on register attempt "page fault
on read access"
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: delcypher(a)gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=32433)

stderr output from wine running KindleForPC.exe
I am running Arch Linux x86_64 and am using wine-1.3.8 (32-bit from multilib
repository in Arch Linux)
I am attempting to use "Kindle For PC" 1.3.0 (30884)". The application installs
correctly and will start successfully.
However when the register prompt appears I enter login details and the
application will crash leaving non responsive window which I have to kill with
`xkill`.
I then do `pkill -f wine` but still have a defunct process left over. Which can
be shown by running `ps -AF | grep KindleForPC.exe
dan 3576 1 0 0 0 0 20:50 ? 00:00:02
[KindleForPC.exe] <defunct>
The output of uname -a
Linux dan-mainbox 2.6.36-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Wed Nov 24 00:39:57 CET 2010
x86_64 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux
I ran `wine KindleForPC.exe 2> kindle.log` and have added that as an
attachment. The application crashes when it reaches the "page fault on read
access" line.
