I just tried installing only Word from MS Office Pro 2003 in Wine 1.1.39 on
Linux and got the same result: My selection was ignored, and all the Office
applications were installed instead.
What's worse, the workaround of running the installer again didn't work for me.
When I ran setup.exe directly for a second time, once again de-selecting all
Office apps except Word, the installer deleted a bunch of files and then
restored them, with the result being the same as before, i.e. a full Office
installation. Launching the installer via "Uninstall Wine Software", "Modify"
or "Remove" resulted in an error message from the installer ("aborted before
completion" or something like this, no further details given) and Excel (but
none of the other unwanted Office apps) having disappeared from Wine/Programs.
Well, that's a first step.

Summary: Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II causes host OS to reboot

Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.38
Platform: x86-64

Running Wine 1.1.38 under Ubuntu 9.10 x64. As reported in the app database,
Star Wars: Jedi Knight Dark Forces II is only playable in a virtual desktop.
What is not mentioned at the time of this writing, however, is that attempting
to launch JK as a full-screen app causes Ubuntu to completely reboot. This
strikes me as a pretty serious issue.

Using git bisect looks as the commit 178ebae4c01c6aed896138d4a0c174c489814f1b
is last working version, problems begin with commit
aabe5f150f834fbf230787c7e228f4b68c39ee32 titled: "user32: Move 16-bit instance
normalization to CreateWindowEx16", after there are a lot of others similar
changes.
How to reproduce:
* Download this application (already used in a previous bug report, copyrighted
text is deleted): http://cosoleto.free.fr/wine_sample.zip
* Unpack to drive C:
* wine Devwin.exe (current directory must be: "C:\Devoto-Oli\")
* click on menu "_Ricerca"
* type "test" inside input dialog box, then RETURN
This is the problem: no effect.
* click on "Ricerca" button for getting the expected effect for "test" string:
the dialog box will closed and a new different window appear.

I tried, but couldn't get any interesting logs, but I'll attach the closest I
got.
winetricks vcrun6 and msxml4 didn't help.
The darn thing is a huge self-extracting installshield wrapper
around an .msi installer, which makes it harder.
And you can't just install the unpacked .msi, as it checks with a
VerifyScriptingRuntime custom action (?) to make sure you're not trying to
do that.
For what it's worth, an unattended install can probably be done with something
like
wine aoe3trial.exe /S /v /qn

I used to play The Lost Crown without any problem on Wine 1.1.37 (and previous
versions). Only trick required was pasting d3dx9_36.dll in the game directory.
Since 1.1.38 I am experiencing a crash anytime I move the cursor over the man
who's watching birds, just after leaving the train station.
I ran a regression test (first time I do this, hope I got it right)
here's the result:
