Could it be that JPsoft does not produce 4DOS anymore? I can't find it on their
product page : http://www.jpsoft.com/products.htm
Can someone provide a new download link so that we can test this in current
git?

Is this still an issue in 1.3.0 or newer wine?

Summary: Rosetta Stone regression
Product: Wine
Version: 1.2-rc1
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: pgalore666(a)yahoo.com
On Ubuntu 10.04, I installed Wine through the WineHQ repository. I then
installed Rosetta Stone v3.4.5 and used it for several days without issue.
After the repository updated Wine to 1.2-rc1, Rosetta Stone started crashing.
The program starts normally, and begins lessons normally; however, the program
eventually freezes during lessons and then crashes with Rosetta Stone putting
up an error just before exiting. This behavior was consistent.
I fixed the problem by removing the WineHQ repository from sources.list, by
running
sudo aptitude purge wine
and by running
sudo apt-get install wine
to install the standard Ubuntu version of Wine, which is 1.1.42-0ubuntu4.
Rosetta Stone now runs without issue as it did before the 1.2-rc1 update.

Patch applies to HEAD and works perfectly here :).
Tested under Debian testing and wine git (wine-1.3.0-266-g1a1ffe6).
Go ahead!

Output from terminal
I downloaded the installer from the listed URL.
Because I compiled Wine from source, I did not have wine-gecko, so I followed
the directions from here:
http://wiki.winehq.org/Gecko
After placing the .cab file in /usr/local/share/wine/gecko it no longer
presented the dialog saying that I do not have Gecko installed.
However, installing the game still does not work. The error messages are
attached.
This is with wine-1.3.0-166-g277040d

The original download location doesn't have a trial anymore, but
there a beta on cnet. I filed bug 24031 for the first problem with that.
There is still a hang with that beta, but it's further on than this one
seems to have been.
The original problems seem to be fixed, so closing.

In case someone wants to implement this,
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/74298 says
"GDI-simulated bold and italic fonts both include overhangs. The overhang is
specified in a TEXTMETRIC structure obtained by calling the GetTextMetrics
function... GDI synthesizes bold fonts by outputting the text twice, offsetting
the second output by one pixel, effectively increasing the width of each
character by one pixel."
