--- Comment #407 from Brian Vuyk <brian(a)brianvuyk.com> 2010-09-04 21:23:59 CDT ---
I tested Vitaly's patch (#351), and it 'mostly' fixed the outstanding mouse
issues with Moutnt & Blade: Warband. However, as I have to run the game in a
wine desktop for the resolution not to be messed up, every time the X mouse
would pass out of the desktop, a click would click out of the game.
I attempted using madscientist's patch (#377) to try to fix it. Unfortunately,
after compiling with that patch (in addition to Vitaliy's, the mouse clicks
would register in the game menu. Plus, the mouse cursor would still move
outside the wine desktop.

as you can guess from name, it workarounds some xorg bug. So when xorg is
without that bug AND most of people will have the right version, then it'll get
merged in, AFAIK.
This bug won't be solved in any other way than xinput2 support, because it's
useless. Xinput2 is proper solution for this bug and should work for every
application. So let's wait till Xinput2 is widespread and then we'll get this
fixed without patching wine.
Personally, i don't care much about patching - i use wine from git, and it
automatically generates packages for my distro, and properly patches.

The rumor I hear is that it would take a few weeks of a senior developer's time
to whip it into shape.

Oops. Posted too early. It appeared i had built wine without Xi2 support. Now,
as wine has been built with Xi2 support, the patch works like a charm. I can
move the cursor out of the window, and it still controls the camera. So, IT
WORKS! ;)
Thanks for the patch, Vitaliy. Is it a proper patch which could be merged into
wine?

"Xi2 patch with xorg bug workaround" doesn't help with GTA III. Mouse still
escapes the window, and then camera isn't controlled. The same problem is with
fullscreen mode where mouse stops on the screen border and camera stops
rotating.

Some other test I made in the HTA game. When rotation of cannon stops, I tried
with Esc go to game menu and see mouse cursor in left side (cannon cannot
rotate left - anticlockwise). Same when cannon stop rotation to
right(clockwise), mouse appear on the right side in game menu.

Still same problem, but I made some tests with adjusting mouse sensitivity in
Hard Truck Apocalypse game. When I set highest sensitivity, cannon can rotate >
360° - looks like 2x turn around, but still stops, its impossible rotate freely
without stop. When I decrease to minimum mouse sensitivity, cannon can rotate
for example only 90°.

it does also on 1.7.x, that contains xinput2 too, but it's well tested on 1.8
and unreleased 1.9 (i use 1.9 RC5)
xinput2 = Xorg 7.5 feature, and Xorg 7.5 first shipped with X Server 1.7.x

Are you sure that this patch works correctly on Debian Unstable?
Because i use it and the Xorg version is the 1.7.7 and it's not Xorg 1.8 or
bigger :s
Thanks
