It arranges the component palettes in the same order in which it read the
values from the registry (even if MSDN exlicitly says not to rely on the order
in which the values are read). We store the values in the alphabetical order to
binsearch them so the palettes under Wine are in alphabetical order instead of
the configured order.
I attach a small test showing that under Windows the values are read in the
same order as they were written.

Looking at the log, it seems to be looping endlessly looking
for an audio CD to be inserted. This was common practice
back in the day; gamers would always throw an audio
CD-ROM in the drive so they could listen to music
while they played. Games often came on hybrid audio/data cds.
When you insert a hybrid audio/data cd, though,
you have to tell the system to mount the data portion,
else wine won't give it a drive letter.
So, if you jump through those hoops (e.g. insert a
cd-rom and tell the system to mount it), the
game will continue to the next problem: you can
tell the game to start, and the welcome screen then
goes away, but no game window comes up. The log shows:
fixme:win:EnumDisplayDevicesW ((null),0,0x34f820,0x00000000), stub!
fixme:xrandr:X11DRV_XRandR_SetCurrentMode Cannot change screen BPP from 32 to 8
err:xrandr:X11DRV_XRandR_SetCurrentMode Resolution change not successful --
perhaps display has changed?
So I guess the next step is to try this on an 8 bit display.

Summary: Poker Night: random long delays between turns and
conversations
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.5
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: VincentBeers(a)gmail.com
Game is from TellTale Games by the name of Poker Night at the Inventory.
Basically, the problem I have is that sometimes, between turns, the game will
have long delays in which nothing seems to happen (ie the application hangs).
It takes much, much longer than usual to load or interpret a resource than it
should take (or so I assume).
A bigger problem is that these delays are much longer when starting up the game
or any significant screen changes. It can take more than a minute longer to
load the game or any specific areas than it would in Windows.
The terminal isn't spewing out anything during these loading periods, so
attached is all terminal output generated by the app, even outside of these
hanging bits. Steam output may be mixed in too.
Notes:
Unfortunately, this game is not available for free, however, it is available
for fairly cheap (5 euros) for those willing to try. I think some other
TellTale games (and free demos) have the same issue however (they all run on
the same engine, though all of them have some minor differences, improvements,
etc.).
Using the Steam version, but I'm sure the non-Steam version has the same issue
(though I couldn't test as Wine 1.3.7 wouldn't load the game for me). The game
works in 1.3.8, though with loading problems.
Another note is that I am playing the game on a FAT32 partition. This may
affect performance, but I do not expect it to take this much longer, thus it
would still be a bug.

Sid Meier's Pirates! (patched to the latest 1.0.2 version) performs badly in
Wine. This issue is described in several test results on the Appdb page of the
game, too.
I can observe the following symptoms:
- After the intro video played, it takes almost 2 minutes to get into the main
menu (without noticeable hdd activity).
- When I get into the game and visit any places in the port (Governor,
Merchant, Tavern etc.) it usually takes the game 15-20 seconds to display the
next screen (although music plays continuously).
- While sailing, the game frequently "freezes" for 2-3 seconds without no
apparent reasons.
When those hiccups occur all animations freeze on the current screen until the
next screen is loaded but music plays fluently.
Reducing the screen resolution, graphical details or disable audio doesn't
help.
I remember playing this game several years ago in a native Win XP without this
issues.
No demo available.

In Windows, the COPY command run in a command prompt allows users to
concatenate files by using a plus ("+") operator, for example:
copy file1+file2 outfile
In wine's cmd.exe, it seems to read file1+file2 as a single path and therefore
outputs a "Path Not Found". Also, it does not recognize the "con" keyword used
to represent stdout/stdin. Therefore another method of concatenating files:
copy file1 outfile
copy file2 con >> outfile
does not work either.
My Ubuntu version is 8.04, AMD64 architecture, though I have seen the same
issue on the x86 version as well.

Native cmd echoes commands after some canonicalization has been done
on their redirects. A batch file containing
dir 1> ok
dir > bad
dir | bad
dir > blah > bad
echoes as
dir 1> ok
dir 1> bad
dir | bad
dir 1> bad
(note the extra space inserted before the > or |).
Wine's cmd doesn't currently do this, but it could probably
do so without too much trouble; it already collects redirects
separately for each command.
For the moment I'll probably put a kludge in the cmd conformance
test runner to compensate.

Star Wars: Rebellion will crash when you try to enter tactical battle mode
(when two fleets meet over a planet). The fastest way to reproduce the bug is
to start a new game as the Rebellion and move your closest fleet to Coruscant,
then bump the game speed up to Fast and you'll get a battle alert within a
minute. Once you take control of the battle, you can issue orders while still
paused, although the starfield is blank and doesn't show any of the ships. As
soon as you unpause the battle or click in the starfield, the game will crash.
NOTE: I'm using the native DLLs for d3drm.dll and d3dxof.dll. The problem with
d3drm.dll is described in bug 8232, but it doesn't look like it's getting fixed
any time soon. From the console output, I'm pretty sure this bug would still
cause the game to crash even if the wine DLLs for those libraries worked (the
errors seem to be coming from other wine DLLs, not the native ones). Other
than those DLLs, I'm running it with a fresh .wine directory on 1.1.8.
Console output is attached, please let me know if you'd like me to enable any
other debug flags. Note that the error which is listed the first few times in
the file is pumped out constantly for the duration of the game, so I'm not sure
if its relevant. I've snipped off the top of the logfile until right before
you enter battle mode and it crashes.
Unfortunately I don't believe the game is available for free download. I'm
running Ubuntu 8.04. Thanks for taking a look.

Resident Evil 1 does not start giving the error "Failed to initialize the
Graphics Hardware Device.(3)". It's a DirectX 3 game using immediate mode.
After some debugging I found that it relies on 3 (three) entries returned by
EnumDevices whereas wine returns only the Direct3D HAL entry in this case
(d3dversion == 1). Removing the if-clause in ddraw/direct3d.c and duplicating
the HAL entry solves the problem and the game actually runs almost perfectly
(Garbage -> Platinum).
I checked a Windows installation which returns "HAL", "RGB Emulation" and "Ramp
Emulation" but the comments in the file suggest that not all games are happy
about that. So how to fix this properly?

FTW7 print dialogue, compare Wine to XP
Cannot select printer/change print settings with Family Tree Maker 7. Dialogue
box comes up, drop-down boxes are working, but radio buttons for switching
between "default printer" and an alternate printer are not selectable. Have
compared the print dialogue between Wine vs a native install under Windows XP
(SP3) and notice some text from the Windows install does not show up under
Wine.
Also tried the same thing with the "free" version of FTM2005se available at
http://past.familytreemaker.com/download/starter.aspx and found it's behavior
is the same. So I will describe steps from there, since it would be eaier for
someone to get that to test against.
STEPS TO RECREATE:
1: Set up wine profile with "WINEPREFIX=/home/jelabarre/wine-apps/ftw2005
winecfg"; set winver to "Windows XP", point the Documents directory under
Desktop Integration to my own Documents directory
2: install FTW2005 by running
"WINEPREFIX=/home/jelabaWINEPREFIX=/home/jelabarre/wine-apps/ftw2005 wine
./FamilyTreeMaker2005se.exe", accept all defaults.
3: open FTW 2005 from "Wine" menu entry on Gnome menu. Selected "Buy Later"
from popup window (does not affect outcome, as same print problem occurrs in a
regular retail version of FTM7)
4: create new file, or use existing file (same result either way)
5: select "File | Print Setup", then try to select radio button for either
"Default Printer" or "Specific Printer". Neither can be selected
6: try selecting a "specific printer" from drop-down box. Printer can be
selected, but radio buttons still not functional.
7: after selecting a printer other than the default (such as print-to-PDF) and
then try printing. Output will still go to the Linux default printer, no edits
of the print settings will take effect.
The "Family Archive Viewer v6.0" at
http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/abtffiv.html and "Family Archive Viewer
v11.0" at http://www.genealogy.com/abtffiv.html are other variants that
exhibits this behavior.
Have attached sample screenshots of Wine vs WinXP versions of the print
dialogue.

Installer from Quicktime 2.1.2 exits silently.
Apparently the only available version is from oldversion.com
However, I also have a copy that comes with another app that installs fine. It
*might* have something to do with the lzexpand DLLs.
Failing version prints these lines and then exits:
trace:loaddll:NE_FreeModule Unloaded module "LZEXPAND.DLL" : builtin
trace:loaddll:free_modref Unloaded module
L"C:\\windows\\system32\\lzexpand.dll16" : builtin
trace:loaddll:free_modref Unloaded module L"C:\\windows\\system32\\lz32.dll" :

Whereas the working version prints this line and continues:

builtin
I can upload the working version too if needed.

Hi,
At the moment Wine doesn't support Video Overlay in DirectX. In order to make
DirectDraw feature complete we need this ability. It is used in media players
(in a lot of cases through quartz 'DirectShow') to improve rendering
performance. A free application that attempts to use it in directx mode (the
default option) is VLC. Further Picasa seems to need it too and their special
Wine branch supports video overlay using Xv but in a hacky way.
It is relatively easy to add a software implementation to DirectDraw/WineD3D
but it would be slow. For best performance and less reinventing the wheel we
need to implement overlay using Xv. The most tricky part would be on how to
access Xv from within wined3d.

Testcase binary and source (VC 6.0 command line for compiling at end of c file)
This could be two bugs, could be one-- I'm not sure. This occurs both in
WM_SETICON, and also when registering a WNDCLASS structure with
RegisterClassEx().
When calling WM_SETICON, wParam indicates whether or not to use the big or
small resource. (ICON_BIG, or ICON_SMALL). Windows reverses these, Wine
doesn't. Running the testcase:
Windows:
icon, then press 'b': get 16x16 IDI_ICON
icon, then press 's': get scaled 32x32 IDI_ICON
Wine:
wine icon, then press 'b': get scaled 32x32 IDI_ICON
wine icon, then press 's': nothing at all
For Wine, you may have to hit 'b' a few times, even restarting the app before
it works-- I don't know why it's flaky.
I noticed this problem because I had ugly icons in my MFC MDI app in Wine, and
realized it was scaling the 32x32 resource instead of using the 16x16 one.
When writing the app, I noticed that CWnd::SetIcon(HICON, BOOL bBig) reversed
the 2nd parameter in reality. Probably Wine just went by the docs and nobody
noticed the docs are reversed from reality.
The other issue that may in fact be the same bug is that the WNDCLASS
structure's icons are reversed as well. I'm thinking it's the same windows bug
responsible for the reversal with the documentation manifesting itself in
multiple places. So it's entirely possible it's just one issue in Wine also
since Wine doesn't reverse them. Running the testcase again:
Windows:
icon: IDI_APPLICATION used (hIconSm)
icon foo: IDI_QUESTION used (hIconSm)
Wine:
wine icon: IDI_QUESTION used (hIcon)
wine icon foo: IDI_APPLICATION used (hIcon)
There's also a question of what happens when you use hInstance instead of NULL
in the LoadIcon() calls, but this bug isn't dealing with that problem.

IDA Pro is an interactive disassembler. A freeware version can be downloaded

In some dialog boxes, when you press Tab to cycle to the next text box, text in
the previously-active box remains highlighted. It should not.
To demonstrate, download and install the freeware IDA Pro. Load any Windows
executable into it. Click to position the cursor over any label (e.g. start),
and press N to bring up the Rename address dialog box.
Initially, the Name field is highlighted. Press Tab. The "Maximum length of new
names" field is highlighted, but the Name field remains highlighted. Pressing
Tab again causes the "Local name prefix" field to also be highlighted, with the
previous two fields staying highlighted.
Apparently IDA Pro is built using the Borland VCL (Visual Component Library),
so perhaps this issue could affect other programs too.

Audio is played normally and the app proceeds to the main menu after
the video ends. Also, pressing a key aborts the video as expected.
The video is visible on a native XP machine.
Both apps use smackw32.dll to display the video. I suppose the screen
remains black because an exception is caught soon after start.

The sequence of smackw32 calls is:
smackw32._SmackOpen@12
smackw32._SmackCheckCursor@20
smackw32._SmackToBuffer@28
smackw32._SmackDoFrame@4
The affected video is "intro.smk". Curiously, this is the second such
sequence. The first one, opening "loads.smk" produces no exception
(but it is too short to be a video). Surprisingly, Burg
Schreckenstein's ending credits extro_[1-7].smk are rendered (these
appear to be still images without animation).
Logs are available upon request. What channels?
You may add

I've not yet written an AppDB entry for either of these 2 children apps.
"5 Freunde" is Enid Blyton's "Famous 5" or "Club des cinq".

IDA Pro is an interactive disassembler. A freeware version can be downloaded
from http://www.hex-rays.com/idapro/idadownfreeware.htm
When viewing a disassembly, if you hover the mouse pointer over a reference to
another location, a view of the instructions at that location pops up next to
the mouse pointer. You can increase and decrease its height by moving the mouse
wheel.
In Wine this does not work properly. The pop-up display is blank (just the
background colour). Moving the mouse wheel, you can see the text that should be
there, but it is immediately overwritten by the background colour.
To reproduce: download and install IDA Pro freeware version. Run the program
and open a Windows executable. Move the pointer over a reference to another
location in the program and wait for the pop-up display. Notice it is blank.
Move the mouse wheel and (hopefully) see the text being rendered but
immediately overwritten.

Summary: Wine removes custom drive mappings

Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: major
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: sub.mesa(a)gmail.com
Wine appears to be forgetting or removing my drive mappings. I have an NFS
filesystem mouned on /nfs, i am the owner of that directory with appropriate
write permissions. I do something like this:
# create new wine directory
mkdir /nfs/winetest
# populate wine directory
WINEPREFIX=/nfs/winetest/ winecfg
# Now i go to Drives tab, make a new D-drive, set it to /nfs, then click Apply
# close winecfg
# when i launch winecfg again, the /nfs D-drive is still there
# so far so good
# now launch some random application on the NFS-mount
cd /nfs/
WINEPREFIX=/nfs/winetest/ wine "D:\\prip\\setup.exe"
# result: wine: module not found; application does not start properly
# now check winecfg again:
WINEPREFIX=/nfs/winetest/ winecfg
# now our D-drive mapping isn't set to anything; its empty.
So it appears wine removes my custom drive mappings whenever an application is
launched or tries to access its DLLs located there. If i did something wrong,
i'm not aware of it. Wine should just accept the D-drive and launch the
application, not removing my drive mapping.
I also tested without using NFS; on my home directory.
mkdir ~/winetest
mkdir ~/driveD
WINEPREFIX=/home/<user>/winetest winecfg
# set drive D to map to /home/<user>/driveD/ type Local Disk
# click apply & close winecfg
cp -p ~/nfs/prip/setup.exe ~/driveD/
WINEPREFIX=/home/<user>/winetest/ wine "D:\\setup.exe"
# result: fails again, drive D gone.
I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit, wine 1.1.40 per winehq.org PPA; no modifications.
The latest .41 versions is not in your PPA yet, so i can't test. Can anyone
confirm this bug?

GomezPEER sets its background process (an instance of java.exe) to the lowest
(idle) priority in Windows. It fails to do so under Linux. Does Wine lack the
ability to set process priorities, perhaps?
Apologies if a similar bug is already open but I could not find one.
On newer systems this is not a problem, but on older system the PEER can
consume 100% CPU while processing. The app is designed so that performance of
the PC is not affected, which of course it isn't under Windows (save the usual
Windows-related problems) but it is under Wine.
I'm not sure if I/O priority is also set.
The following does not work as a workaround:
$nice -n19 wine ~/blah/GomezPEER.exe
because this then sets all the Wine components to -n19 and can badly affect the
performance of other apps running under Wine.
Instead, the workaround I use is:
$wineserver -p15
$nice -n19 wine ~/blah/GomezPEER.exe
This way the wineserver remains at normal priority. winedevice.exe in this
case still receives -n19 priority, however.

Summary: CDBurnerXP 4.3.x crashes when trying to erase a DVD-RW
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.44
Platform: x86-64
URL: http://cdburnerxp.se/download?more-options
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown

Crash log
After choosing "erase disc" in the main menu and then clicking the erase button
(while a DVD-RW disc is inserted in a drive the program can detect), the
program produces an error dialog:
Erasing the disc failed for the following reason: Exception from HRESULT:
0x8001010E (RPC_E_WRONG_THREAD)
Clicking OK to this message results in the MS error report tool popping up,
followed by the Wine crash dialog.
Note: this program needs dotnet20, and it needs the workaround from bug 18012,
comment 2 to be able to detect drives in this section.

Summary: MS Paint doesn't refresh scrollbars properly
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.8
Platform: x86-64
URL: http://download.microsoft.com/download/winntwks40/pain
t/1/nt4/en-us/paintnt.exe
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: trivial
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: RandomAccountName(a)mail.com
In MS Paint (installed with winetricks) the scrollbars don't seem to refresh
when they should unless the scrollbar area is clicked on.
Simple way to reproduce: Ensure that the canvas is smaller than the window (so
no scrollbars are visible) then zoom in on a portion of the picture (ensure
it's not the entire picture). Scrollbars should appear, but instead, they're
invisible. After clicking in the area where they should be, they become
visible.
Terminal output: nothing.

Summary: Invalid Wine version results in hidden / lost /
invisible test results entry
Product: WineHQ Apps Database
Version: unspecified
Platform: x86

I submitted test results for Time of Defiance
(http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=8261) with an
invalid Wine Version number (1.1.45). The form accepted my submission, and I
was later emailed that my results had been added (perhaps because I was the
submitter, perhaps because I am the maintainer of the version). Now
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=8261&iTestingI…
displays my new results in the "Selected Test Results" box, but on no page are
the details of the results visible in the "Test Results" box.
I expect two fixes are required here. First, more input validation on the
submission page. Second, whatever is preventing this entry from showing up
under Test Results.

I understand that following 1.2 .po file are going to be used, so this should
be easier to resolve then.
Philippine English follows American English rules, but currently defaults to
pick up SUBLANG_NEUTRAL which is British English. It should be picking up
SUBLANG_DEFAULT for American English.
I'm not sure if this can be changed before the introduction of .po files but
it's not urgent.

The link in the mail that the maintainer receives, e.g.
"Test Results submitted for version 1.0 of X by Y"
http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=4219&iTestingI…
leads to a page that shows the submitter's text with the title
"Selected Test Results (selected in 'Test Results' table below)"
However, the OS/version/rating 'test results' line corresponding to the
submission is missing. Instead the topmost line displays an old (known) entry.
This is really confusing and irritating.
Furthermore, the page displayed does not show a "process" or "reply" buttons. I
need to go to my queue and identify this entry among all the elements of the
queue in order to process it.
I believe both things worked well in the past -- 2-3 years ago?

The default search (the search box at the top of this page) does not include
closed bugs (rightly so), but it also does not include resolved bugs. This
leads to duplicates that could be avoided.
See Bug 18601 - a recent regression that is fixed by the next release, but
anyone searching for an open bug for Google Sketchup will not see it unless
they choose to run an advanced search, which some users clearly don't.
I'm sure this is a simple change to the code.

Summary: bugzilla adds mr.bugs to cc list?
Product: WineHQ Bugzilla

Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: bugzilla-unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
Bugs start out with Mr. Bugs as the default assignee, which is evidently
intended so the mailing list gets copied on all bug changes. That's fine.
But under some situations, bugzilla seems to also automatically add
mr. bugs to the cc list.
For instance, here:
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-bugs/2010-September/251648.html
Whereupon Dmitry promptly removed it from the cc:
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-bugs/2010-September/251690.html
Austin verified that this had been done automatically by repeating his
component change:
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-bugs/2010-September/251728.html
and then removed the extra cc manually in the next change.
What's going on here? Should that cc be added automatically or not?

I can't seem to find the change for this in bugzilla.git...
On http://bugs.winehq.org/enter_bug.cgi, someone added the text:
<-- You probably want to use that link there!
Wine bugs. Submit bugs related to Wine here.
<-- Use this if in doubt!
but it also appears on this page:
http://bugs.winehq.org/describecomponents.cgi?product=Wine
which doesn't make any sense.

Installed Webtrends Log Analyzer 6.5 which works fine, then created a new
profile which also works fine. The problem is when trying to create a new
Report for a profile, it is able to read the web server logs OK, but errors out
when it starts to generate the report to write to disk. The error reported in
Webtrends is:
Unable to extract bmpinfo (using VIC32.DL) from file "C:\Program
Files\WebTrends Log Analyzer\reports\Web
Analysis\TempGraphFiles\ms-2010-0800.bmp"
This BMP file is created, but it is zero bytes in size. At the same time that
this error occurs in Webtrends, in the bash terminal Wine is reporting this
error:
fixme:ole:OLEPictureImpl_SaveAsFile (0x1011dd8)->(0x1017db0, 1, 0x2efde0),
