Thanks Juan!
I found the workaround from the Wine FAQ:
http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#head-acdec646b6720354c020ba88d88e3102576e6a63
---
6.9.4. Failed to use ICMP (network ping), this requires special permissions
On *NIX systems ICMP ping requires use of raw sockets, which is limited to
super user (root) only. And running Wine as root is a bad idea. Fortunately
newer versions of Linux allow granular permission control to grant only
required permissions to specified files.
To allow Wine opening raw sockets run this command:
sudo setcap cap_net_raw+epi /usr/bin/wine-preloader
---
Is it better to make the err message like below ?
"""
err:winediag:IcmpCreateFile Failed to use ICMP (network ping), this requires
special permissions.
To allow Wine opening raw sockets run this command:
sudo setcap cap_net_raw+epi /usr/bin/wine-preloader
"""

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=patch+fuzz+factor
Google it!
That should be your final result, but please train your brain with doctor
google :)
patch -s -p1 --fuzz=9999 /usr/src/packages/SOURCES/vertblend-bug6955.patch
Cheers,
Damian

> still a bug in current Wine?
Just tested it today with a new install of Max Payne 2 in a clean wineprefix
with wine 1.3.27 and the bug is still there. I am now playing the game with
wine 1.2.3 (stable) because of this.

You need to set the fuzz factor for the patch higher or use prebuild RPM's for
openSUSE with this patch from
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/damianator/openSUSE_11.4/i5…

Why exactly is the importance set to minor? Since there is no workaround, it
makes it impossible to run the game (and if you purchase the game from Good Old
Games, there is no possible fallback to an 1.0 version either). Shouldn't bugs
blocking a game completely be set to normal?
