Bug #: 32573
Summary: Torchlight fails to start without native msvcr90 due
to corrupted local_settings.txt
Product: Wine
Version: 1.5.20
Platform: x86

Status: NEW
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: msvcrt

This would be a follow-up to bug #31845 (?)
It was tested with the Steam version of the game. Steam installs MS VC++ 2008
and various DX libraries. The problem occurs if you set msvcr90=builtin.
The first time you start the game with built-in msvcr90 it seemingly runs
without issues. After exiting and restarting the game you receive a crash as
can be seen in the attached log. Even if you set msvcr90=native the game
refuses to start from then on.
The game stores it's settings/saved games in ../user/user_name/Application
Data/runic games/torchlight. This directory contains the file
local_settings.txt. The file is created/updated when the game starts as well as
when the game exits.
You have to remove the file each time before starting Torchlight with the
built-in msvcr90. Maybe it gets corrupted when it is created/updated.
Take the following scenario: you don't have native d3dx9_36 (or _39) installed
so the game doesn't start at all, it crashes early after starting. This also
results in a corrupted(?) local_settings.txt
The demo version available from Runic Games refused to start for me (that's
probably bug #28546), the demo uses some kind of protection.
Let me know what debug log would be of help.

I've installed Poser Pro using wine 1.4.(wine1.4_1.4-0ubuntu4_i386)
It starts successfully without opening any(includeing the default one) models.
But when I open some models(especially big ones),the screen turn black for a
second, then it may crash, with GPU errors appearing and X responding nothing.
Sometimes, after the screen turning black, the computer does NOT respond
anything.EVEN Alt+SysRq+r,following by Alt+SysRq+b can NOT reboot the computer.
Thanks

Backtrace from the crash.
I followed instructions from this post:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2084592
I'm attaching the installation dialog.
The app started, installed Mono and something else, and started, allowed a
login and started to resume a movie I had viewed. Then, the app crashed, and
the backtrace window came up. I'm not enough of an expert to figure this out by
myself, so any help on this in my quest to use my Netflix subscription with my
favorite OS would be appreciated.

If there is no profile for Wine but ~/.wine/system.reg is already existing as a
symlink to another file Wine doesn't follow this symlink if a new profile is
created (the symlink ~/.wine/system.reg will be overwritten with the regular
file). Only the file ~/.wine/.update-timestamp is followed if it is a symlink.
I think Wine should try to follow ~/.wine/system.reg too before overwriting it.

Summary: Steam: Steam is significantly slower in 1.5.x
Product: Wine
Version: 1.5.9
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Mac OS X
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org

When using Wine 1.5.x, Steam runs noticeably slower than when using Wine 1.4.x.
Items effected in Steam seem to be anything that requires data from the
Internet, Steam's actual interface runs just as fast.
Steps to reproduce:
1) Run Steam in Wine 1.5.9.
2) Browse the store in Steam and note Steam's performance.
3) Run Steam in Wine 1.4.1.
4) Compare the Steam Store's performance with Wine 1.5.9.

Summary: Text is italicized in Mozilla Firefox
Product: Wine
Version: 1.2-rc5
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal

Component: -unknown

Text appears to be being italicized in Mozilla Firefox on both Google's
homepage and in the SunSpider benchmark results. This does not happen in
Mozilla Firefox on either native Windows or native Linux.
Here is a URL that demonstrates the problem:
http://www.google.com/firefox
The little Message of the Day text that appears below the search box is what is
being italicized. Also, the bar at the top of the screen with links for other
google services is also italicized. Not all of the text that Firefox renders is
italicized and I am not sure what the distinction is that is being made.
I use Gentoo Linux. Here is the information its package manager provides about
the installed package:
app-emulation/wine-1.2_rc5 was built with the following:
USE="X alsa cups dbus fontconfig gecko jpeg lcms ldap mp3 (multilib) ncurses
opengl oss perl png ssl threads truetype xcomposite xml (-capi) -custom-cflags
(-esd) -gnutls (-gphoto2) -gsm (-hal) -jack -nas -openal -pulseaudio -samba
(-scanner) -test -win64 -xinerama"
CFLAGS="-march=core2 -mtune=core2 -O2 -pipe"
CXXFLAGS="-march=core2 -mtune=core2 -O2 -pipe"

Summary: mt under wine corrupts executables
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.44
Platform: x86
URL: http://ghostscript.com/~hintak/wine-debug/
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: loader
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: htl10(a)users.sourceforge.net
part of ghostscript's building process runs:
mt -nologo -manifest psi/dwsetup_x86.manifest -outputresource:setupgs.exe;#1
mt -nologo -manifest psi/dwuninst_x86.manifest -outputresource:uninstgs.exe;#1
This step corrupts executables under wine and they gain a wrong image size;
both vista and win7 then complains they are not valid win32 applications. See
discussion on wine-devel mailing list.
I have modified the makefiles slightly so that setupgs.exe and uninstgs.exe are
saved to setupgs.exe.bak and uninstgs.exe.bak before running mt. So the two
*.bak files can be found in:
http://ghostscript.com/~hintak/wine-debug/vista-bins.zip
and the manifests in:
http://ghostscript.com/~hintak/wine-debug/dw_manifests.zip
and one can compare running mt against them with the vista executables, also in
that zip file.
