The traceback refers to memset IDirectSoundBufferImpl_Duplicate DirectSoundDevice_DuplicateSoundBuffer IDirectSound8_IDirectSound8_DuplicateSoundBuffer Will attach a +dsound trace. Later editions of game (EU3:Complete, Heir to the Throne, Divine Wind expansions) don't have such problem, they start fine with the built-in msvcp60.
