Hi Jorg, it was meant, that winecfg lost the setting, so you can't conveniently
turn the sound off, so the first choice is valid:
> - winecfg does not have that checkbox anymore, so that
> you don't know what GUI could bt used to turn sound off?
But as is mentioned above, i can running the game with the parameter:
wine Heroes.exe /s0
and the game works, unfortunately without sounds. Without the parameter the
game still freezes with black screen on startup, ie. bug still present in
wine-1.5.19-152.

I tested PuTTY 0.60 with wine-1.5.19-74-g4bb92e1 and the problem seems to be
fixed. However you need to disable the "Allow the window manager to decorate
the windows" option in winecfg first.
I didn't do a regression test to see which commit fixed things, but it may well
be the same one which fixed bug 32394. (Bug 32394 may effectively be a
duplicate of this one.)
winex11: Send WM_EXITSIZEMOVE when the mouse has been released.
http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/commit/ed47a507d0ec9b1d5771ea86b4b7fb…
and/or possibly
winex11: Send WM_ENTERSIZEMOVE when starting to poll for a window move/resize.
http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/commit/91ebca2bf10e3ef5edcb65868a8f3c…
[I noticed a problem when the "Allow the window manager to control the windows"
option is disabled as well. In that case the PuTTY window cannot be activated;
keyboard input goes to the console instead. I guess opening a separate bug for
that would be best though.]

I checked: this bug exists in PuTTY 0.60 (with the latest wine 1.5.18), but
disappeared in 0.61 and later.
However, I think it is still a valid bug for Wine, because the same (old)
version of PuTTY behaves differently in Wine (where bug exists) and in Win32
(where it doesn't).
Old version of PuTTY can be downloaded from

Certainly still applies. The "winmm call from within winmm callback" makes
this an issue that'll not get resolved by chance.
>The workaround by turning sound off in winecfg by
>unchecking alsa seems to be gone in recent wines.
Wylda, what do you mean?
- winecfg does not have that checkbox anymore, so that
you don't know what GUI could bt used to turn sound off?
- HoMM does not work anymore when sound is turned off in
Wine (however that is achieved, e.g. registry or WINEDLLOVERRIDES)?
If the latter, please file a distinct regression bug.
