It was true just a few years ago, when Intel had absolutely awful drivers, and
ATI drivers barely worked.
Even nowadays NVIDIA proprietary drivers for Linux are far superior to anything
else available on the platform.

Mostly, yes. There's a small chance we're interpreting the point size limits
wrongly in some way though.

Can you please also post the following file
WINEDEBUG=+d3d,+d3d9,+d3d_shader,+d3d_caps,+d3d_draw,+d3dx wine 3DMark05.exe
-nosysteminfo &> /tmp/3dmark05d3d9.log
And the last question, make sure you are installing 3DMark05 into a *fresh*
wine prefix (delete or move ~/.wine into another location or use `export
WINEPREFIX="/home/$USER/.wine.test"`)

I cannot reproduce your positive results with proprietary NVIDIA drivers which
support OpenGL 3.2, thus I'm inclined to delete your AppDB results as knowingly
false.
OpenGL renderer string: GeForce 8800 GT/PCIe/SSE2
OpenGL version string: 3.3.0 NVIDIA 304.22
OpenGL shading language version string: 3.30 NVIDIA via Cg compiler
The 3DMark 2005 in my case says: "Your hardware does not support the features
required to run 3DMark05. Pixel Shader 2.0 (or higher) is one of these..."
Out of the box Wine is written with proprietary NVIDIA drivers in mind so it's
a very strange fluke on your side that the 3DMark 2005 works for you.
Can you post a screenshot of the main 3DMark 2005 window on, say,
http://imageshack.us/ ?

I have no problems to run 3DMark05 / 3dMark06 using wine 3DMark05.exe
-nosysteminfo. PS version 3.0 is detected. All tests are running.
Without -nosysteminfo an error message is shown, and 3DMark0x quits.

maybe this is a vendor specific problem not related to wine ?

Bug #: 31242
Summary: Dota 2: dense fog all over the map
Product: Wine
Version: 1.5.9
Platform: x86-64
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: directx-d3d
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: cephryx(a)gmx.net
Classification: Unclassified
Created attachment 41037
--> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=41037
totally fogged map
Since wine 1.5.9, Dota 2 looks as seen in the attached screenshot. For what it
actually should look like, see http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=40782.
The game is now completely unplayable because the player can hardly see
anything. This is a regression report.
The bug was not present in 1.5.8 (though in 1.5.8 the game was unplayable from
a performance point of view due to http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30986
which was fixed in 1.5.9).
I attached a log file including Steam and subsequent Dota 2 startup. It
contains various "fixme:d3d:debug_d3dformat Unrecognized" and
"fixme:d3d:wined3d_get_format" entries that were not present in previous wine
versions (though I don't know whether or not this hints to the bug's actual
cause).
For a comparison to startup logs on wine 1.5.7, see the attachments of
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31071.
My configuration:
wine-1.5.9 compiled from git (using "1.5.9"-tagged commit) using a new prefix,
GeForce GTX 260, nvidia driver 302.17, Xubuntu 12.04 x64 (xfwm4.10.0), kernel
3.2.0-26-generic

Summary: NFSU2 sometimes hangs while loading
Product: Wine
Version: 1.2-rc3
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: scrawl(a)baseoftrash.de
Using the patch on the AppDB, I got Need for Speed underground 2 to work. But
in the loading screen, it sometimes hangs (every 2nd time maybe, its totally
random). The loading animation continues, but it doesnt load anything. No
output on the console.
When I randomly get across the loading screen, everything works perfectly, but
sometimes it just doesnt load anything and continues to load forever. So its
unplayable.
Also affects the demo of the game, available for download here:
