Though I don't know if this is the right thing to do. The game runs but crash after the 1st bink video when the main menu must be appear. The game runs on wined3d/d3d11 but it's unplayable, works (of course with DXVK) and with the Native version. (patched to the latest 1.0.2 version) performs badly in Wine. This issue is described in several test results on the Appdb page of the game, too. I can observe the following symptoms: - After the intro video played, it takes almost 2 minutes to get into the main menu (without noticeable hdd activity). - When I get into the game and visit any places in the port (Governor, Merchant, Tavern etc.) it usually takes the game 15-20 seconds to display the next screen (although music plays continuously). - While sailing, the game frequently "freezes" for 2-3 seconds without no apparent reasons. When those hiccups occur all animations freeze on the current screen until the next screen is loaded but music plays fluently. Reducing the screen resolution, graphical details or disable audio doesn't help. I remember playing this game several years ago in a native Win XP without this issues. No demo available. I implemented the program so it waits for ReadFile to return FALSE, that's when the input is supposed to be over: ###### BOOL success = ReadFile(handle, buffer, 4096, &buffer_max, NULL); if (!success) return FALSE; ###### Now that's not right anyways, but it exposes a slight difference in Wine cmd: 1) Following input hangs on Wine, but not on Windows: "echo test | find test" It works on Wine when using "winetricks -q cmd" 2) Following input hangs on both Windows and Wine: "find test < test.txt" Wine's implementation of the pipe | uses the redirect operator < internally. This leads to the pipe working differently on Wine, i.e. blocking ReadFile when it's not supposed to. (By "soft lock", I mean that FL Studio itself is still responsive, but you're completely blocked from doing anything and the only way to get out of it is to kill the process.) ====== Steps to reproduce: 1. Download and install FL Studio 12 Demo: https://support.image-line.com/redirect/FLStudio_Installer_Google The demo and the full version are the same executable. You will need the Arial font or any ttf named as arial.ttf in "C:/Windows/fonts/". If you have Winetricks just run "winetricks corefonts" (you will need the cabextract package). 2. Download any 32-bit or 64-bit VST to test. This is the one I tried, a 32-bit plugin (http://veg.by/en/projects/syxg50/). The plugin itself is working perfectly. You can use any VST you want, as long as you know whether it's 32-bit or 64-bit. Put the dll file in "~/.wineprefix/drive_c/Program Files (x86)/Steinberg/VstPlugins/". 3. Open the FL Studio version which DOESN'T match the instruction set of the VST you're using. If you're using a 32-bit VST plugin, open FL Studio 12 (64-bit). If you're using a 64-bit VST plugin, open FL Studio 12 (32-bit). (If you're using the VST I linked to, open FL Studio 12 (64-bit)) 4. When FL Studio is launched for the first time, a featured project file is automatically loaded. Click "File" in the top left corner and then "New" to create an empty project. 5. Click "Options" > "Manage Plugins" 6. Click the "Start scan" button with "Verify plugins" enabled (make sure the light is red). Let it scan for plugins. 7. Close the window, click "Add", and then "More plugins..." (under System) 8. Find and select "S-YXG50" (or if you used another VST, pick that). 9. So, if you jump through those hoops (e.g. insert a cd-rom and tell the system to mount it), the game will continue to the next problem: you can tell the game to start, and the welcome screen then goes away, but no game window comes up. Basically, the problem I have is that sometimes, between turns, the game will have long delays in which nothing seems to happen (ie the application hangs). It takes much, much longer than usual to load or interpret a resource than it should take (or so I assume). A bigger problem is that these delays are much longer when starting up the game or any significant screen changes. It can take more than a minute longer to load the game or any specific areas than it would in Windows. The terminal isn't spewing out anything during these loading periods, so attached is all terminal output generated by the app, even outside of these hanging bits. Steam output may be mixed in too. Notes: Unfortunately, this game is not available for free, however, it is available for fairly cheap (5 euros) for those willing to try. I think some other TellTale games (and free demos) have the same issue however (they all run on the same engine, though all of them have some minor differences, improvements, etc.). Using the Steam version, but I'm sure the non-Steam version has the same issue (though I couldn't test as Wine 1.3.7 wouldn't load the game for me). The game works in 1.3.8, though with loading problems. Another note is that I am playing the game on a FAT32 partition. The fastest way to reproduce the bug is to start a new game as the Rebellion and move your closest fleet to Coruscant, then bump the game speed up to Fast and you'll get a battle alert within a minute. Once you take control of the battle, you can issue orders while still paused, although the starfield is blank and doesn't show any of the ships. As soon as you unpause the battle or click in the starfield, the game will crash. NOTE: I'm using the native DLLs for d3drm.dll and d3dxof.dll. The problem with d3drm.dll is described in bug 8232, but it doesn't look like it's getting fixed any time soon. From the console output, I'm pretty sure this bug would still cause the game to crash even if the wine DLLs for those libraries worked (the errors seem to be coming from other wine DLLs, not the native ones). Other than those DLLs, I'm running it with a fresh .wine directory on 1.1.8. Console output is attached, please let me know if you'd like me to enable any other debug flags. Note that the error which is listed the first few times in the file is pumped out constantly for the duration of the game, so I'm not sure if its relevant. I've snipped off the top of the logfile until right before you enter battle mode and it crashes. Unfortunately I don't believe the game is available for free download. I'm running Ubuntu 8.04. It's a DirectX 3 game using immediate mode. After some debugging I found that it relies on 3 (three) entries returned by EnumDevices whereas wine returns only the Direct3D HAL entry in this case (d3dversion == 1). Removing the if-clause in ddraw/direct3d.c and duplicating the HAL entry solves the problem and the game actually runs almost perfectly (Garbage -> Platinum). I checked a Windows installation which returns "HAL", "RGB Emulation" and "Ramp Emulation" but the comments in the file suggest that not all games are happy about that. However, I failed to get the game working with either OpenGlide, dgVoodoo and Zeckensack's Glide Wrapper. Tried putting dll files in game dir, in windows/system32 dir, setting overrides in winecfg, running on a virtual desktop and many different combinations of the above on two machines: one equipped with Intel graphics card, the other with rather old (~5 years) NVidia GeForce graphics card running binary blob drivers. Wine console output spews a few fixmes about EnumDisplayDevicesW stub. Attaching log below. Failure occurs in full version as well as in demo version of the game. Some flags should not send a WM_NCACTIVATE message at all. Attached is a document I've made from testing FlashWindowEx with various flags and having the window active/inactive. This issue seems to be related to Overwatch losing focus on respawn, it calls FlashWindowEx with dwFlags = 0xE (FLASHW_TIMERNOFG + FLASHW_TRAY), which according to my tests should send a WM_NCACTIVATE message with 1, but wine sends 0 instead. The game starts and loads to the menu fine with the built-in d3dx9_34 but you will face several issues throughout the game. Install the demo then start it with AlphaPolaris.exe. Click <OK> in the launcher and get in the game. Start a new game from the menu, skip the intro video. Here are some issues I noticed with built-in d3dx: - anytime you press a key (either in the menu or in mid-game) a black bar appears in the upper left corner. An error message from the game engine (Wintermute) is hiding behind those black bars, as I've seen those in the game from bug #29495. "Script runtime error. View log for details". - the game begins with a conversation but dialogues/subtitles are displayed so fast that you can hardly read them. Probably due to this, most of the audio (speech) is missing from the game. - when the opening conversation ends you should see the main character standing in front of his bed. With built-in d3dx the character is missing (invisible). - the game tends to crash on exit as can be seen in the attached log file. All those issues are non-existent when d3dx9_34=native. Saved games that were created with built-in d3dx9_34 are also affected. The application also fails in manual mode at the same spot, but it doesn't crash; instead it hangs with 100% CPU usage. The console output with stack trace from the crash in automatic mode is attached. The application can be downloaded at http://anthemav.com/downloads/ARC-2%20Setup.zip, but you must have an Anthem A/V receiver in order to get this far in it. Dialogue box comes up, drop-down boxes are working, but radio buttons for switching between "default printer" and an alternate printer are not selectable. Have compared the print dialogue between Wine vs a native install under Windows XP (SP3) and notice some text from the Windows install does not show up under Wine. Also tried the same thing with the "free" version of FTM2005se available at http://past.familytreemaker.com/download/starter.aspx and found it's behavior is the same. So I will describe steps from there, since it would be eaier for someone to get that to test against. STEPS TO RECREATE: 1: Set up wine profile with "WINEPREFIX=/home/jelabarre/wine-apps/ftw2005 winecfg"; set winver to "Windows XP", point the Documents directory under Desktop Integration to my own Documents directory 2: install FTW2005 by running "WINEPREFIX=/home/jelabaWINEPREFIX=/home/jelabarre/wine-apps/ftw2005 wine ./FamilyTreeMaker2005se.exe", accept all defaults. 3: open FTW 2005 from "Wine" menu entry on Gnome menu. Selected "Buy Later" from popup window (does not affect outcome, as same print problem occurrs in a regular retail version of FTM7) 4: create new file, or use existing file (same result either way) 5: select "File | Print Setup", then try to select radio button for either "Default Printer" or "Specific Printer". Neither can be selected 6: try selecting a "specific printer" from drop-down box. Printer can be selected, but radio buttons still not functional. 7: after selecting a printer other than the default (such as print-to-PDF) and then try printing. Output will still go to the Linux default printer, no edits of the print settings will take effect. The "Family Archive Viewer v6.0" at http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/abtffiv.html and "Family Archive Viewer v11.0" at http://www.genealogy.com/abtffiv.html are other variants that exhibits this behavior. What Linux Live USB does, is it creates a Live USB Linux USB thumb drive from an ISO. I keep a Windows XP partition around to run this program. My hope is to use Wine to run this program and create Linux thumb drives. Live Linux USB should task Wine, as it looks for new updates and other information from its web site. In order to make DirectDraw feature complete we need this ability. It is used in media players (in a lot of cases through quartz 'DirectShow') to improve rendering performance. A free application that attempts to use it in directx mode (the default option) is VLC. Further Picasa seems to need it too and their special Wine branch supports video overlay using Xv but in a hacky way. It is relatively easy to add a software implementation to DirectDraw/WineD3D but it would be slow. For best performance and less reinventing the wheel we need to implement overlay using Xv. The most tricky part would be on how to access Xv from within wined3d. That's fine. However, when enabling the console ENABLE_VIRTUAL_TERMINAL_PROCESSING mode on stdout with SetConsoleMode, no error is returned, so the application has no way to detect whether VT sequences are supported or not. This is documented in https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/console/setconsolemode. The port of Turbo Vision at https://github.com/magiblot/tvision is affected by this. When using the Console API, Turbo Vision prefers VT sequences over SetConsoleCursorPosition/SetConsoleTextAttribute for code reusability and performance. Nevertheless, it can fall back to the latter method when SetConsoleMode fails to enable either ENABLE_VIRTUAL_TERMINAL_PROCESSING or DISABLE_NEWLINE_AUTO_RETURN. Since SetConsoleMode does not return error on wineconsole, garbage is shown instead of a colorful interface. STEPS TO REPRODUCE To reproduce the issue on Turbo Vision: (A) - Using the attached 'tvdemo.exe' 1. Run the application on wineconsole. You should see a black-and-white background and escape sequences drawn on the console. 2. Press Alt+F, then D. You should see the command prompt, and the message "VT enabled" at the top, which demonstrates the issue in SetConsoleMode. (B) - Compiling from source code (requires up-to-date CMake and MSVC). 1. Insert the following code after line 63 in source/linux/win32con.cpp (https://github.com/magiblot/tvision/blob/dd4e410e60a34e08053399e346d4ed4e63…): ``` if (supportsVT) cerr << "VT enabled" << endl; else cerr << "VT not enabled: " << GetLastError() << endl; ``` 2. Crappy hack is only to show where the problem is and problably contains several errors, hopefully someone can fix this in proper way (hint at Hans;)). Sidenote: reverting the hack makes Onenote from Office365 run into the bug again, but Onenote from office 2010 now continues happily to start; maybe it sets some registry key once started and the patch is not needed anymore? First, list of tested games : Far Cry 2 : No audio problem ✔ Crysis : No audio problem ✔ XIII : No audio problem ✔ Far Cry 3 : Crackling audio ✖ Assassin's Creed : Crackling audio ✖ I ran all the games set on DirectX 9 and I built Wine to use Open Sound System for audio (if this is important). Assassin's Creed 1's prefix is set to WinXP and Far Cry 3's one is set to Win7 (because of Uplay). The problem is that the audio on Far Cry 3 and Assassin's Creed is weirdly crackling and slower than it should be but, not EVERY sounds in the game are making the audio crackles. On Assassin's Creed, it's when a lot of people are around me and everytime I use the eagle vision. In the menu or when outside the Animus (in the present time of the game where there are only three people and a tiny room), the audio works well. Also, an important point is that neither Assassin's Creed nor Far Cry 3 are slowed down to fit the slowed down audio issue. They both work very well when it happens which is causing a strange issue I'll describe AND SHOW below. I'm using a GTX 765m to play which is not bad for old games like these. "Your computer certainly isn't powerful enough to run the game !" you say... Well, you are not totally wrong, I could have better hardware but, in the past, when I was playing these games on Windows then, later, on GNU/Linux, I never met this problem. The two differences are that I'm playing, for the first time, Assassin's Creed _ON_FREEBSD_ and we are now almost in 2020. My last Assassin's Creed session was on GNU/Linux in 2016. Wine changed so much in almost 4 years ! But let me remind you that only two of the five games mentioned above are having issue. all my native FreeBSD games (OpenMorrowind, Xonotic, Minetest, Tales of Maj'Eyal, Quake II from Yamagi's source code etc...), videos read with mpv, music listened with moc and even Firefox are all working well without crackling or slowed down audio. And three tested games on Wine with OSS are working perfecly. I could have tested more games but I think three is good enough. So here is the "show" I mentioned in the beginning. I took a video of Assassin's Creed's problem. In the normal game, one speak and, when finished, the other answer. They _NEVER_ speak above the other. In my Assassin's Creed, the game is running well but the audio is slowed down which creates a desyncing between the slowed down voice played and the mouth of the character. And, because the game is running well beside this issue, one didn't finish his sentence and the other will start his speech over the first one (it shouldn't happen). I found a longplay video of the game which is certainly played on Windows. I copied the video link to start at the exact same moment as the one I recorded from my computer and you can see how the game should normally behave : https://youtu.be/1gGz6vf35T0?t=2991 About the crackling audio issue, it can be heard by the end of my video when I use the eagle vision. For Far Cry 3, don't even need to run the game to hear crackling and slowed down audio. What you can notice is that the normal music is faster than in my video, it's the same problem than with Assassin's Creed 1. I fetched the output of Wine when running Assassin's Creed 1. It repeatedly says two things so I cut it into "head -n 50" and "tail -n 50". I watched the long output and nothing is different between the first 50 and last 50 lines. I think it's caused by an erroneous check at https://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/blob/HEAD:/dlls/shell32/shlfileop.c#… if (!(lpFileOp->fFlags & FOF_MULTIDESTFILES) && !flFrom->bAnyDirectories && flFrom->dwNumFiles > flTo->dwNumFiles) { return ERROR_CANCELLED; } If the target is one single directory, FOF_MULTIDESTFILES is not set. flFrom->bAnyDirectories is false, since no directories are moved. And flFrom->dwNumFiles > flTo->dwNumFiles since we move multiple files to one target directory. I'm not sure what's the reasoning behind !flFrom->bAnyDirectories anyway. Trying to access any of the nested sub-menus causes whole context menu to disappear, whether with mouse or keyboard. I can't find a workaround to access the nested commands. CloneSpy 2.6.2, Wine 1.2.3, Mint 10 fully up to date. CloneSpy doesn't seem to have come up here before for some reason.
