How well does WINE run if you have a Window$ CD?

Hello, most potential WINE users already own a Windows CD. This is obvious because if you want to run a Windows program on Linux it is because you are probably already using it, and this means you have Windows installed somewhere. Now, if I have the Windows CD I can copy all the needed DLLs(and whatever else) to the correct Directory. Now my question how well does WINE run if you follow this approach? If Wine doesn't work 100% doing it this way, I think this should be the main focus, because after this works, it will be just a question of time till we replace all DLLs with our own ones, one at a time. What about DirectX? Can we use those DLLs? I suppose they need Windows drivers so they might not work with Linux. But would it be possible to make the Windows drivers work on Linux so that DirectX would run? I think this would be a good intermediary goal, especially for all those companies wanting to switch from Windows to Linux because they already have Windows CDs. Roland

Memory and swap full

Hello Running a application make on Delphi i observe a periodical increase on memory used after a time this effect occur in swap space used and are continued at full swap then machine stop in a continuos access to HardDisk and nothing else run waiting this process resuming...the memory are exausted and i have something like a general break on my system. If i close the wine and reopen all return to normal state i think that problem is in my application but i dont know how localize this in my source code any body have a similar situation...? what i can make in this case...? cry !... :( Marcelo

[help] GDI text fonts

Dear all, When we are working on the Chinese support on WINE using Lotus Notes r5, we found that the fonts display for the interface is very ugly (attached the screepshot). I would like to change to have different font when detected English or Chinese. Could somebody point me where I could start with? Also, for a text document, the gdi text and font are used to store them, I would like to ask where can I find the structure to store and the code to manipulate it (e.g. send for display/print (pExtTextOut? but where called pExtTextOut))? Open up wine-announce to wine-related/using projects

I just found a link to xmms-winamp (http://www.emulinks.de/xmms-winamp/), a project to allow the use of winamp plugins in xmms. This is done with the help of wine or winex. Personally, I'd like to see announcements such as this, crossover and winex on wine-announce. Maybe that way a bit more awareness for the projects using wine can be gained (not to talk about my lazyness to look for such things :-) Ciao Jörg -- Joerg Mayer <jmayer(a)loplof.de> I found out that "pro" means "instead of" (as in proconsul). STACK LIMITS: error on lauch program

Hi friends Somme programs like Delphi3 and a instaled version od iMesh return a error: "err:seh:EXC_DefaultHandling Exception frame is not in stack limits => unable to dispatch exception." and dont run. what can i make to do run my application...? what is this error and where are is located in wine..? Getting CUPS printer to work in wine

After updating to the current CVS I get the following error message: trace:psdrv:PSDRV_CreateDC (WINEPS Printer LPT1: (nil)) To use WINEPS you need to install some AFM files. I believe this may be why I can't get printing to work. But do I really need AFM files to get printing to work? The printing doc says you don't need them for type 1 fonts. I've attached a trace of the printing errors just in case this isn't the cause of the problem. TIA for the help, Josh
