MB_USEGLYPHCHARS glyph table

Hi there. I just tried to find out why Poser won't display any fonts (no luck, BTW), when I noticed the obviously quite common "MB_USEGLYPHCHARS not supported" fixme. I don't know if it's related to the missing fonts thing, so I googled a little. workspace switching and fullscreen apps

When I switch from a fullscreen app (WoW) to another workspace, the screen is black for ~3 seconds, but switching back to the app happens instantly, no black screen or other delays. This doesn't happen with cedega and it didn't happen with wine from about a month ago. I remember that when I switched from WoW to another workspace under gnome (metacity windows manager) the window was minimized and maximized about three or four times in a very short time (~1 second) and the screen was flickering because of this. Seems like the game recieved too many minimize/maximize messages, mor than it should have. Now I have e17 and maybe their window manager handles this differently. Is there anything I could try to improve the behaviour? I've tried to comment out the maximize/minimize code in the source, because WoW doesn't really need to know, but that isn't the best solution. thanks tom

Why Steam fails

Here is why I think Steam fails on my machine: The issue: Half of the time Steam fails to start, with this helpful message, and no wine output: memstd.cpp (148) : Assertion Failed: 0 Then it goes into the minidump and writes a 3G file on my disk or so that I need to erase.. =========== It seems like it tries to reserve 200 MB of memory via VirtualAlloc, and then subsequently commit a small portion of that (again through VirtualAlloc). Then it fails some sort of assertion. It doesn't seem to check the retval of the first alloc, which fails about half of the time in wine_anon_mmap (mmap() call) with ENOMEM. If the allocation succeeds, Steam proceeds to run. If it fails, Steam dies with the message above. This is a machine with 1G memory. How much memory does one need to run Steam? Isn't this supposed to be a Virtual allocation...Why does it work one time, and not the other... The manpage for mmap() says ENOMEM can occur if the process exceeds its allowed number of mappings. Is this relevant?

I don't have hands on access to this NT3.51 machine, so it's hard to tell, but it sounds like there's a problem creating the file c:\test.inf for whatever reason. I'll send a patch to wine-patches that adds an ok to check that the file was created successfully. -- James Hawkins

Battlefield 1942 and the radeon driver

Hello, Did anyone of here get Battlefield 1942 with the radeon driver going? I just tried with X.org 7.0-rc3, and the game blocks at the loading screen with ~65% sys cpu usage and ~35% cpu idle. This happens with the current CVS version, as well as with Olivers d3d8 patch. I guess it's a driver bug. It works sort of with the fglrx driver, but this driver is horrible. Any suggestions how to debug this? A +d3d log shows that the program is doing almost normal rendering. Other directx games also work fine. Stefan

Polish translations

Dear Sirs. I represent Polish company. We start currently a project - kind of computer helpdesk, where we advice (because of lot of reasons) moving to Linux to our customners. While they are in most cases very sceptic about this, your Wine makes a great help for us. Unfortunately, the English language is still the biggest barrier for Polish customers. Thats why we would like to contribute to Wine development and spreading a "good hope" :) in the way we can afford right now. I would like to propose: 1. full translation of your WWW page to Polish, and setting this "localisation" at our www host.server. 2. full translation - or help if anyone started, although i cant find any note on your site - of Wine software: GUI/API/DOCS/help docs into Polish. 3. Support for Polish users of Wine; if commercial - divided fifty/fifty with you - just to support this software. We can provide for translations work a group of 2 ppl, having both linguistic skills and Linux/IT knowledge, who can keep this project going on without the risk of sudden break or cooperation cancell. Unfortunately they cant do this project exclusively (they must do company jobs) but we will do our best to supply all we propose. GCC 4.0.1 / WINE bug?

I've been doing some tests with the odd Dreamweaver problem that I originally thought was a regression and discovered the following: 1) If I compile the current CVS on my Mandriva 2005LE machine with gcc v.3.4.3, then install it to my Mandriva 2006 desktop, Dreamweaver works fine. 2) If I compile the current CVS on my Mandriva 2006 desktop with gcc v.4.0.1, then install it to that same machine, Dreamweaver hangs at the splash screen (with the app window in background). Other apps, like Steam and Counter-Strike: Source work fine under this install. This is using the same .wine config directory and everything. I used "make clean" and "wineserver -k" between compiles. When I was originally troubleshooting it as a Dreamweaver problem, I recall checking out a fresh copy of CVS and getting the same hangup symptoms under 4.0.1. So, it appears that this might be caused by either a gcc 4.0.1 bug, or a bug in the WINE source that only becomes evident when compiled under gcc 4.0.1. When I get home from work tonight I can do some traces to try to narrow the scope of investigation. Are there any trace options that would be particularly helpful to you devs? Thanks, Jesse
