[Bug 60551] New: combase: LocalService activation fails when CLSID is registered only in the opposite WOW64 registry view

by WineHQ Bugzilla

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60551 Bug ID: 60551 Summary: combase: LocalService activation fails when CLSID is registered only in the opposite WOW64 registry view Product: Wine Version: 11.20 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: ole32 Assignee: wine-bugs(a)list.winehq.org Reporter: hamsteruser(a)gmail.com Target Milestone: --- Distribution: --- Created attachment 82416 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=82416 Try the opposite registry view for LocalService activation. This bug prevents 64-bit 3DMark 11 from starting unless an AppID value of {1BF1C030-CE12-4A8A-A4E1-EDDCE7176799} is added under HKLM\Software\Classes\CLSID\{F9C82199-B002-41B4-8B00-0F1ECA89425F} in the 64-bit registry view. The patch fixes COM LocalService activation by retrying the CLSID-to-AppID lookup in the opposite WOW64 registry view when the initial lookup fails. A standalone MinGW-w64 reproducer is attached. It tests same-view registration, opposite-view registration, and opposite-view registration with an AppID mapping added in the client's view. The tested reproducer returns 0, 0, 0 on Windows and patched Wine, and 0, 1, 0 on unpatched Wine. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. [Bug 60550] New: winex11 wintab: XSelectExtensionEvent called per device overwrites previous selections; stylus/eraser events lost (no pen pressure, eraser acts as tip) on Xwayland

by WineHQ Bugzilla

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60550 Bug ID: 60550 Summary: winex11 wintab: XSelectExtensionEvent called per device overwrites previous selections; stylus/eraser events lost (no pen pressure, eraser acts as tip) on Xwayland Product: Wine Version: 11.19 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: wintab32 Assignee: wine-bugs(a)list.winehq.org Reporter: redcowski(a)gmail.com Target Milestone: --- Distribution: --- Created attachment 82414 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=82414 Video proof of pressure sensitivity working in Clip Studio Paint 5.1.5 I managed to get pressure sensitivity working on Clip Studio Paint current latest version under Wine (many artists I know struggle with this and I was specifically helping my sister get her tablet working on her new Linux Framework laptop). I threw my Claude Max at it and we got it to work. Here is the root cause and what got it working: On a Wayland desktop (GNOME/mutter, Xwayland 24.1, Fedora 44), Wintab apps under Wine get the pen with no pressure, and the eraser end behaves like the tip. Seen with Clip Studio Paint 5.1.5 in Wintab mode, Wacom Intuos5 touch M over the wireless kit. Pressure works in native apps. A plain XInput 1 client on the same desktop receives the stylus with full pressure (0–65535) and button events. Xwayland exposes the tablet as three XI1 devices: xwayland-tablet stylus:NN, xwayland-tablet eraser:NN and xwayland-tablet cursor:NN. Wine detects all three (tablet_attach_queue Opening cursor 0 id 12 / 1 id 10 / 2 id 11). Cause: in dlls/winex11.drv/wintab.c, tablet_attach_queue() loops over the cursors and, for each device, builds event_list with only that device's classes. It then calls pXSelectExtensionEvent(data->display, win, event_list, event_number) inside the loop. XSelectExtensionEvent replaces the client's previous XInput 1 selection on that window, so after the loop only the last device is selected. Querying the window with XGetSelectedExtensionEvents shows only the last device (here id 12, the puck). The stylus (10) and eraser (11) are not selected, so Wine receives no stylus motion/button events. A few stale hover events with pressure 0 get through, and the app falls back to mouse input. Proof: a separate XI1 client that selects stylus events on the same Wine window receives 824 motion events with pressure up to 65535 in one test, while Wine (WINEDEBUG=+wintab32) logs 5 motion_events, all with pkNormalPressure: 0. Fix: collect the event classes of all devices into one list and call XSelectExtensionEvent once after the loop (patch attached: the event list grows to CURSORMAX * 7 and the call moves out of the loop). Workaround (until fixed): an LD_PRELOAD shim that merges and re-applies the selections: https://github.com/codicusmaximus/CrapStudioPaint/blob/07392ab23f9aafc51cca… Steps to reproduce: Wayland session (GNOME), Wacom tablet working in native apps. Run a Wintab app (e.g. Clip Studio Paint set to Wintab, or Wacom's wtcapt.exe) with WINEDEBUG=+wintab32. Draw with the pen: the log shows almost no motion_events and pressure stays 0; the eraser end draws like the tip. XGetSelectedExtensionEvents on the app window lists only one tablet device, e.g. with https://github.com/codicusmaximus/CrapStudioPaint/blob/436c23e5d3139cfc94e6… I have reviewed the fix and it seems reasonable to me, this would help a lot of people struggling with pressure sensitivity and it makes moving to a Linux-based OS a non-starter for a lost of artist folk. Thanks for considering it. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[Bug 60548] New: vatSys: WinForms menus render wide and blank with the app's bundled "Terminus (TTF)" Bold font

by WineHQ Bugzilla

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60548 Bug ID: 60548 Summary: vatSys: WinForms menus render wide and blank with the app's bundled "Terminus (TTF)" Bold font Product: Wine Version: 11.20 Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: gdiplus Assignee: wine-bugs(a)list.winehq.org Reporter: oljnam(a)gmail.com Target Milestone: --- Distribution: --- Application: vatSys 1.4.20, a VATSIM air traffic control client (https://virtualairtrafficsystem.com, free), 32-bit .NET Framework 4.8 WinForms. Its menus and editor windows use the font family "Terminus (TTF)" through GDI+. The installer ships a single font file, TerminusTTF_Bold_B.ttf ("Terminus (TTF)" Bold, version 4.39). Problem: with the bundled font installed, vatSys's drop-down menus open as wide, blank windows (full screen width with winex11 under KWin Wayland, narrower but still blank with winewayland), and text in its editor windows is misaligned. With the bundled file replaced by the Terminus TTF 4.49.3 conversion from https://files.ax86.net/terminus-ttf/ (copied to C:\windows\Fonts and registered under HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts), the menus and text render correctly. This holds with the full 4.49.3 family installed, and also with only its Bold face, so a bold-only family is not the trigger. Differences found between the two Bold files (fontTools): - the bundled file has a GDEF table; 4.49.3 has none - usWinAscent/usWinDescent and hhea ascent/descent: 849/183 (bundled) vs 833/167 - embedded bitmap strikes: 12-28 ppem (bundled) vs 12-32 ppem - otherwise identical cmap subtables (0/3/4, 1/0/6, 3/1/4), unitsPerEm 1000, weight 700, fsSelection 0xa0, xAvgCharWidth 500, fixed pitch, both with EBDT/EBLC strikes Removing the GDEF table alone, or changing only the ascent/descent values to match 4.49.3, does not fix the menus. In wine-11.0, GdipCreateFontFamilyFromName("Terminus (TTF)") did not match the bundled bold-only family (it fell back to Tahoma), so the menus looked correct there; in 11.20 the family is matched and the menus break. Steps to reproduce: 1. New 64-bit prefix (new WoW64), winecfg -v win11, winetricks -q dotnet48 2. Install vatSys and launch it; open any item in the main menu bar. 3. Result: wide, blank drop-down. Replace TerminusTTF_Bold_B.ttf with TerminusTTF-Bold-4.49.3.ttf (registered under the same family), wineserver -k, relaunch: menus are correct. Environment: Wine 11.20 (d2d1-dcomp-11.20 fork of giang17/wine built from source; the same menu symptoms appeared earlier with the WineHQ 11.20 packages). Fedora 44, KDE Plasma 6.7.5 (Wayland), NVIDIA RTX 3080, driver 615.78.08. Attached: the bundled TerminusTTF_Bold_B.ttf -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. The issue affects both the Steam and GOG versions. For the Steam version, the full game is required to reproduce this issue. The Steam demo uses a different video codec and is not affected. With Wine 11.20, the video image is repeated four times horizontally. Each copy is horizontally compressed, appears in grayscale, and has pronounced horizontal striping. Before the regression, the videos were displayed correctly, with normal proportions and colors. The same AVI files play correctly with both gst-play and ffplay. The affected files examined are `yso_logo.avi` and `en_pro.avi`. Both contain: - Video: MPEG-4 Advanced Simple Profile, FourCC XVID, yuv420p, 1920×960, 60 fps. - Audio: 16-bit signed little-endian PCM, 48 kHz, stereo. I bisected the regression to the following four consecutive commits, listed in chronological order: - `8ca50c3753915d0891d8be588b73a35383f5eaca` quartz: Implement media type enum for source. - `52e78abf837f27dc04f8b1fe6e1bbff1a074ee88` quartz: Implement QueryAccept for source. - `479a9316aeab82372b2b0c832297cc480165c17c` quartz: Make sure cbBuffer is large enough to fit image. - `e4d1eefb14f1c4e7616c763daa888dfc280bb451` quartz: Implement the Receive function. `e4d1eefb14f1` is the first tested commit at which I observed the specific corrupted image described above. However, the three preceding candidates had to be skipped: audio played, but the video area remained white or black, preventing assessment of the image corruption. I cannot conclusively attribute the corruption to e4d1eefb14f1 alone. Please let me know if you need debug logs. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. [Bug 60542] New: Keys that produce non-ASCII characters (2/é, 7/è...) don't work as shortcuts in Unreal Engine games

by WineHQ Bugzilla

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60542 Bug ID: 60542 Summary: Keys that produce non-ASCII characters (2/é, 7/è...) don't work as shortcuts in Unreal Engine games Product: Wine Version: unspecified Hardware: x86-64 OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: winex11.drv Assignee: wine-bugs(a)list.winehq.org Reporter: vbernard42(a)gmail.com Target Milestone: --- Distribution: --- A number of games use by default the numeric keys from the top row of the keyboard for character or item swapping. AZERTY players sometimes encounter difficulties with some games, mainly on the 2 key (which is also é on AZERTY keyboards). This occurs, for example, on Arc Raiders and NTE, two Unreal Engine 5 games. The key works fine when typing text, but the associated action never triggers. In Arc Raiders, rebinding the action with the same key fixes the problem (this writes `UnknownCharCode_201` in the associated configuration file). After some investigation, it appears to come from the winex11's implementation of MapVirtualKeyEx() (with wMapType=MAPVK_VK_TO_CHAR), which tries to capitalize every character when it's possible (RtlUpcaseUnicodeChar()). Only VK_A to VK_Z should return uppercase letters, others should return their unshifted character (as expected in https://gitlab.winehq.org/wine/wine/-/merge_requests/12314 and hinted in the Remarks section of https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/api/winuser/nf-winuser-mapv…) Reproduced with vanilla Wine 11.20: MapVirtualKeyW('2', MAPVK_VK_TO_CHAR) returns 0xc9 instead of 0xe9 with a French layout. It looks like this has been like that since 1999. win32u's NtUserMapVirtualKeyEx() does the correct thing here: the Wayland driver doesn't override it, so it's a common workaround to set PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 on those games with some Proton forks (see e.g. https://www.reddit.com/r/NevernessToEverness/comments/1sz951p/bug_key_2_not…) See also: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/8658 And maybe: https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45740 -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. [Bug 60389] 16-bit installer subsystem crashes (fixed-offset null-pointer-style read) under new WoW64, works fine under classic WoW64

by WineHQ Bugzilla

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60389 --- Comment #2 from Javier <fjavier1954(a)gmail.com> --- Created attachment 82409 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=82409 Crash log, Wine 11.20, Windows XP Comment to add to Bug 60389: Third reproduction, this time on wine-11.20 (same host, same installer, same steps, Windows XP setting). Same crash class — read fault at the same fixed offset 0x00000030 — but the call site has moved again: Backtrace: =>0 win32u (+0xee38) 1 gdi32 (+0x3f965) 2 gdi.exe16 (+0x14a0) 3 krnl386.exe16 (+0x36f4) On 11.17 it was krnl386.exe16 -> kernelbase/kernel32. On 11.18 it moved to user.exe16 -> user32 -> win32u. Now on 11.20 it's gdi.exe16 -> gdi32 -> win32u. Three consecutive dev releases, three different 16-to-32-bit subsystems involved (KERNEL, USER, GDI), always the same fixed-offset 0x30 read fault. This strongly reinforces that this is a single structural issue in the new WoW64's 16-bit thunking layer itself — something common to all three subsystems' 16->32 call path — rather than a bug local to any one of them. Full crash log attached (crash-11.20-winxp.txt). System information: Wine build: wine-11.20 Platform: x86_64 (guest: i386) Version: Windows XP Host system: Linux Host version: 7.2.7-1-cachyos -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. [Bug 60541] Ubersoldier II crashes during startup - corrupted private copies of Wine code observed with bundled StarForce protection

by WineHQ Bugzilla

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60541 --- Comment #1 from Béla Gyebrószki <gyebro69(a)gmail.com> --- Created attachment 82408 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=82408 The result of AI-assisted analysis For those interested, the attached file contains the results of the AI-assisted analysis: evidence of the unpatched crash, the faulty code rewriting, the window management error, and the results of the assembly workaround. An experimental Wine workaround using fixed i386 assembly entry stubs for RtlAllocateHeap, RtlSizeHeap, SystemParametersInfoA and NtdllDefWindowProc_A allows allows all 3 editions of the game to run, including gameplay and saving/loading. The four-entry version has also been tested successfully with both -O0 and -O2 builds. I'm not sharing the working patch created with AI assistance here due to Wine's Clean Room guidelines. I am using the patch locally for myself. The game runs stably with it, even during extended play sessions. I am also testing the patch with other games, and so far, I haven't encountered any issues. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. [Bug 60541] New: Ubersoldier II crashes during startup - corrupted private copies of Wine code observed with bundled StarForce protection

by WineHQ Bugzilla

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60541 Bug ID: 60541 Summary: Ubersoldier II crashes during startup - corrupted private copies of Wine code observed with bundled StarForce protection Product: Wine Version: 11.20 Hardware: x86-64 URL: https://store.steampowered.com/app/281410/UberSoldier_ II/ OS: Linux Status: NEW Keywords: obfuscation Severity: normal Priority: P2 Component: ntdll Assignee: wine-bugs(a)list.winehq.org Reporter: gyebro69(a)gmail.com Target Milestone: --- Distribution: ArchLinux Created attachment 82407 --> http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=82407 Wine terminal output + Protection ID log Over the past 7 years, I've acquired 3 different versions of Ubersoldier II, 2 of which come from so-called DRM-free stores. I own the IndieGala, Steam, and Zoom Platform versions, and all three have the exact same issue when launched under Wine: the game crashes immediately upon launch. The startup failure also occurs with the legacy shared WoW64 build configuration. On Windows 11 in VirtualBox, the game reaches the menu properly. All three releases of the game retain the Starforce DRM mechanism (or remnants of it). This was initially verified using Protection ID and subsequently confirmed via AI-assisted analysis. To reproduce, launch xtend.exe from the installed game directory. The game crashes or exits before reaching the menu. The failure varies between runs: page faults, stack overflows and silent termination have all occurred. Investigation under Wine found that private executable copies of Wine function code contain altered instructions, including missing register assignments. In a captured unpatched run, the damaged allocator copy leads to an invalid memory access. This points to a compatibility problem involving the protection-associated code-copying machinery; it does not establish incorrect Wine heap API semantics. I set the affected Wine component to 'ntdll': the strongest evidence for this is the crash occurring in Wine's corrupted private copy of RtlAllocateHeap. This doesn't imply a faulty API implementation, it merely pinpoints the area most relevant to the compatibility issue under investigation. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. [Bug 46697] USVFS (User Space Virtual File System), part of Mod Organizer 2 v2.1.1+ wants 'ntdll.NtQueryDirectoryFileEx' (Windows 10 build 1709+ syscall)

by WineHQ Bugzilla

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46697 --- Comment #14 from zyfgs2012 <zyfgs2012(a)gmail.com> --- Additional affected configuration: ASTLIBRA Revision v1.4.1 startup failure in a DLL hooking the missing ZwQueryDirectoryFileEx export This is downstream compatibility evidence related to bug 46697, not a claim of a regression reproduced on stock upstream Wine. Environment - Android 16 / Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 (ARM64) - DroidDeck 0.4.0, Linux runtime r9 - Proton Experimental ARM64: experimental-11.0-20261014-arm64 - Export absence also checked in DroidDeck-Proton 11-9.1 - An x86-64 Windows game directory labeled ASTLIBRA Revision v1.4.1. The supplied DLL is named steam_api64.dll; its provenance has not been independently verified. This report must not be interpreted as confirmation that an unmodified official Steam build has the same failure. Observed behavior Starting ASTLIBRA.exe from Steam produces a black screen / no visible game window. Two native ptrace captures show a null branch during initialization of the supplied steam_api64.dll. Export inspection Both installed Wine ntdll.dll images export NtQueryDirectoryFile and ZwQueryDirectoryFile, but neither exports NtQueryDirectoryFileEx nor ZwQueryDirectoryFileEx. Inspection of current upstream dlls/ntdll/ntdll.spec also finds the legacy exports but not the Ex variants. Call-chain evidence (RVAs relative to this specific steam_api64.dll) - +0x10E77 resolves "ZwQueryDirectoryFileEx" from "NTDLL". - +0x10E94 calls a hook-installation helper (+0x7A810) with the resolved target. - The missing export results in a null target being passed into a code-decoding / byte-reader path. - At +0x8C5B1, instruction bytes FF 11 (call qword ptr [rcx]) encounter a null callback; the captured slot [RCX] is zero. - The translated native instruction is BLR X11 with X11=0, followed by SIGSEGV at PC=0 / si_addr=0. This evidence alone does not establish a FEX translation bug. Local workaround used to establish the affected path The DLL already has a fallback to the old ZwQueryDirectoryFile hook if installation of the Ex hook reports failure. However, the hook helper crashes on the null target before it can return failure. For this exact DLL only, replacing the five-byte call at RVA +0x10E94 (E8 77 99 06 00) with xor eax,eax and three NOPs (31 C0 90 90 90) lets its existing legacy fallback execute. This is a local binary workaround, not a Wine source patch or an implementation of the Ex API. After that change, the same original Steam entry and Proton runtime initialize DXVK and display the opening sequence and title menu. A fresh normal launch with diagnostic environment overrides removed also succeeds. Long gameplay and full save/load coverage have not been verified. Original DLL SHA-256: 65259d162a4cb9a57abd214723db0555f1c5c8b65dda828f4a641e2083f70e6c Scope and request The DLL's missing null check is an application-side defect. The separate upstream compatibility gap is the missing Nt/ZwQueryDirectoryFileEx API. This case may be additional impact evidence for that gap, even though the application can fall back after correcting its error handling. The same game directory reportedly works on Windows; its exact Windows export/call path has not been captured. No stock desktop Wine reproduction or Wine source-level fix is claimed here. Would implementation and export of both API names belong under this existing issue? The local workaround and any historical stub patch should not be assumed to provide full API semantics. -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply.
