However when games (especially Unity games) try to use video rendering, the videos along with audio simply do not work. According to 3Shain, the current implementation of MediaFoundation has an issue where a miscflag (D3D11_RESOURCE_MISC_FLAG) does not get set, and as such DXMT fails to render anything. Expected result: the game should play intro video (publisher/developer logos), then display splash screen with some more logos etc, then loading screen with a little wheel turning in the corner and showing percents, and then the game menu. Actual result is black screen, no sound, no image, instead of intro, then (e.g. on click) splash screen, correctly displayed, then loading screen, also technically displayed correctly, but the little wheel shows 0% and keeps turning forever. The game has to be killed by ctrl+c or wineserver -k. Some other info: a) Othercide is Unity game, in my case GOG version, Steam and console versions also exist, so it is pretty multiplatform, but there is no Linux version. Real shame. b) Protom (8.05+ clone from git with what appears like 8-ish Wine inside) has also broken video playback, but at least produces sound and does not hang, it gets to the game menu and it is kinda playable. c) Wine 9.1 and 8.1 behave the same, i.e. black screen instead of intro, then eternal loading screen. d) Wine 6.1 suprisingly DOES play intro and DOES NOT hang on loading screen, the game appears to work. The reason I tried this particular version is that, while searching for fix, I found a number of similar bugs reported here and at Proton's website (but not pertaining to Othercide), mostly revolving around mfplat.dll or Media Foundation, a somewhere, but I do not recall where, was a link to wine mailing list, where somebody patched something related to that in february 2021, if you allow me to be so vague :D So I tried Wine from January. Maybe I got the whole issue wrong and mfplat is not to blame, but 6.1 does work, that much is sure. e) Intro video appears to be ineed H264 file in Othercide/Othercide_Data/StreamingAssets/videos/SplashFocusLBC_New.m4v -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. I receive a notice that there's an error and Battle.net has to shut down. I close it, and the error shows up again. This continues in a cycle until I use "wineserver -k" to exit. The backtrace saved from this has been attached. I am able to use the Settings button on the login screen for the Battle.net app, as well as typing in a username/password, but I cannot go any farther than that because there is no submit button and it doesn't seem to want to load. Be aware that I had previously been loading Starcraft II directly using the SC2Switcher.exe executable, but because a new version needs to be downloaded, I'm needing to get into the Battle.net app. Not sure if not using the app is a side effect. Video is not rendered, but audio is played. Starting the game in a virtual desktop does not help, it only replaces the black screen with the blue background of the virtual desktop. The videos can still be skipped, so this does not prevent reaching the game menu and starting a game. All GStreamer plugins are installed (base, good, ugly, bad, libav). Despite the bug metadata being set to WINE 9.8, the current 9.9 build is affected too (but is not proposed when opening a new bug report). This behaviour has been noticed on a Wayland setup with an AMD GPU and Mesa drivers. I should be able to try reproducing it on X.org and with nVIDIA non-free drivers too, I will report back once it is done. This bug must have been introduced some time after wine-9.22, as wine-9.22 works fine. I decided to try to tackle this issue because everyone on Lutris says the first solution to this bug is to disable DXVK, and the other one is to install Battle.net on a ext4 drive, although this is not an ideal solution for some users (like me). I found out that there is a bug that Battle.net cannot find the required DLLs, even though they exist in the Wine prefix. I used the llvm-mingw compiler from https://github.com/mstorsjo/llvm-mingw , but I don't think the PE compilers are the issue. Attempting to run any Wine program results in the wine process crashing: attempting to debug the loader executable using macOS' lldb says that the file is a "Malformed Mach-o file". Also, I know the maintainers of Bugzilla encourage reporting only one problem per bug. That being said, the exact same time this started happening, my existing Wine prefix for Battle.net (and my Battle.net games) caused thread crashes when opening Battle.net after installing yesterday's update. The update was installed from within the Battle.net client by clicking the green icon to install the update. Prior to this update released yesterday on November 30, 2023, Battle.net and the games were running flawlessly. Pressing ESC closes the game (with the full-screen, black window), and I can see the attached output in my terminal. I should be able to switch to another desktop and get a debug trace when the black game window is on the screen, if you'd like me to do that. I'm using 375.26 of NVidia's drivers.
