This is a GUI application that starts a network thread to connect to a server, waiting to receive messages using overlapped operations. After receiving a message, the network thread uses SendMessage() to send the received data to the GUI thread, which creates a Device Context and prints the data. But after creating the Device Context the networking thread becomes stuck and doesn't receive data anymore. I bisected the repo to find the commit that introduced the problem and the bisection points to: commit c9e4e0152548e6a369bd7bcdeedc5bd64f446fb6 (HEAD) Author: Alexandre Julliard <julliard(a)winehq.org> Date: Thu May 21 12:03:07 2026 +0200 win32u: Use pthread instead of the TEB to access internal per-thread data. Then visual lags (constant, as if the program runs at 5 FPS) started to happen. Welp, they aren't solely visual, responsiveness also suffers. Audio, however, doesn't lag and is still smooth. The lag is also present on Wine10. Regression also confirmed on Wine-development v9.22 and with a demo version of the program and on different PCs (first on an Intel-based laptop (Core i3-7100), then on an AMD-based one (AMD Ryzen 5 5500U)), both with integrated GPUs. There are workarounds if you just care about the contents of the browser (e.g. you can use ie6's main window, and ie8's guts), but I don't know of a workaround for getting ie8's main window to work. Can't reproduce with the original demo version. The game crashes on start just when the first intro movie should be started. Disabling the intro movie by starting the game with /NOMOVIES option works around the crash. Bisected to commit ebc31cfbeef9b1079685b1ef8b281a7b02072119 dsound: Create independent devices for each DirectSoundCreate call. Can't revert the patch but the game starts properly with the previous commit.
