I then retried the quicktax 2002 exe as before and was much encouraged that, this time, there was no crash and it actually displayed the main quicktax panel. Wow! But then it froze. mouse clicks on buttons did nothing, and after moving to another window, on trying to return to quicktax, it did not re-display. Completely gone. However the exe was still running according to ps abnd no crash messages in the wine.log. Any suggestions how to pursue/debug this from here? BTW I see that, with this wine 050930 and starting with fresh .wine, there is no longer a .wine/config. I see that is mentioned elsewhere. The new winecfg does not cover all the things I used to be able to put in config. In particular the windows PATH - How do I specify that? Next. Sometimes some applications had crashed, when I was "browsing" directories (WinAMP, Notepad) with english (wuthout any russian symbols in full path) names. When I had retried enter in this directories I recieved or crash or all was good. There is problem with file browsing on my system. Wine didn't write anything, when I try work with russian directories, I recieve messages only from Win-applications. Wine called winedbg and found errors, only when win-applications crashed on some directory. Running LANG=ru_RU.UTF-8 wine notepad I have created several files. Closed notepad, created few russian directories. Ran notepad and copened/saved files in different directories. What is the error message are you getting? The particular version of PGP mentioned is no longer available; it was superseded by PGP Desktop 9.0 trial version, and the license for 8.0.3 freeware forbade all redistribution. Incidentally, I get the following (different) crash on a fairly clean install, using wine 20050930, having copied all files but no registry keys: $ wine PGPtray.exe wine: Call from 0x202a8cb8 to unimplemented function rpcrt4.dll.RpcBindingSetAuthInfoA, aborting wine: Unhandled exception (thread 0009), starting debugger...
