Check your video drivers, system configuration, etc. By definition this can not
be Wine's bug.

Summary: Wine crashes X11 resolution
Product: Wine
Version: 0.9.29.
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: wine-x11driver
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: bunk(a)stusta.de
All described below is after an
rm -rf ~/.wine
I'm normally using an 1280x1024 resolution, FVWM 2.4.19, X.org 7.1.0 .
When starting some applications (e.g. the game Master Of Orion 2), Wine sets the
resolution to something smaller (640x480?).
In a way, that CtrlAlt+/CtrlAlt- do no longer work for correcting the resolution.
And not in a way that it was possible to play the game.
The only way I know to fix it is to restart X11.
Workaround:
winecfg
Graphics
[X] Emulate a virtual desktop
After this, the problem is no longer present.
But the most interesting observation (both with [X] Emulate a virtual desktop):
Works fine:
WINEDEBUG=+all wine orion95.exe >/tmp/log-orion2 2>&1
Problem present despite "[X] Emulate a virtual desktop":
WINEDEBUG=+all wine orion95.exe
IOW, the fact that making everything _extremely_ slow and keeping X11 busy with
outputting millions of lines in an xterm somehow influences this issue.

Also confirmed on 0.9.29 binary, ubuntu. Tried running from a preexisting
install as well as from the installer-based one.

This is a show-stopper for kids games that require the user to enter their name
before playing. This is on Kubuntu 6.10 with the latest WINE.

Do you perhaps have a longer version of the +wgl log in which also the crash
appears? I expect the game to crash in some opengl line which isn't shown right now.

Worked fine with wine-0.9.26, broken in wine-0.9.29. According to AppDB wine.git
from Dec 12 2006 also works but I haven't tested that. Relay log follows.

This bug is only about "hangs as soon as mouse is moved" - let's try to only
discuss this here.
The interesting thing is that I have never been able to reproduce this - hangs
for 1-3 seconds perhaps, but never complete hangs of the game (except _after_
quit'ing the game).
And that's my experience with many versions including 0.9.29.
I'm using a Debian unstable/testing, and I've used both distribution packages
and self-compiled Wine.
