A simpler way to work around the bug is probably:
WINEDLLOVERRIDES=mscoree="" wine dxsetup.exe
or just disable mscoree.dll in winecfg.
That should probably get you around this bug, though it's still a bug anyway

A way to fix this is to type _snd_mixahead in the console, followed by a
floating point number. The default is 0.1 (I think) -- try different values such
as 0.2 or -0.4. You should be able to feel a difference when you change the
number -- find the number that works for you. Sometimes I need to tweak it again
to a new number... I haven't found any solution other than this dirty hack.
Note that this problem is also for the older non-Steam releases of
Counter-Strike as well for the other Half-Life 1 based games. I don't know if
this is a problem with source-based games because I currently own HL1-games only.

The bug in the NWN model viewer for instance is VERY strange. Basically there's
the main window and some opengl child window. Most of the time it is rendering
to the main window instead of the child window (the app is doing that!). When
you move the window very quickly you can get the app to draw to the child window
again. In some cases it stays at the child window. I have no idea what is going
on, for some reason the app is doing strange things.

I use wine 0.9.34. CSS works OK, but when I tried to change my resolution from
800x600 to x, everything crashed. Only ALT-Sys-RQ-B worked. So I tried that
again, it crashed again, but I pressed Alt-Sys-Rq-S and then killes my computer
manually (not with those method above.). The next time I started CSS the
resolution was right.

Another update: with the new bpp setting (24bit), WoW works, but when I enter in
some places all the screen is messed up and I have to logoff, quit WoW and logon
to have a clean screen again.
This didn't happen when I was using direct3d emulation.
