I'm finding the same thing.
Running Wine in a virtual desktop, and turning off X mouse acceleration both
seem to help but don't get rid of the problem completely.
When moving the pointer left and right at very low speeds, the mouse goes in the
opposite direction it should. Up and down is always correct though.
It also bounces off the edges of the screen, but I think that is a known issue
with the mouse in Wine, so a dupe.

With the demo, the crash does not appear.
But ingame the graphic has the same corruption so the demo is worth a look.
With these demo test results in mind, Ive got the idea to remove the intro movie
and it worked!
So actually there seem to go something wrong with the video loading in GLSL.

This is not a bug in Wine. WoW crashes even under Windows XP when you try to
change graphics settings in opengl mode. This is a bug in the game client.
