I didn't actually have much of a slowdown or freezing issue, it just appeared
that way due to the unsmooth mouse movement.
Although the native DLLs fix the smoothness, it's more playable with the
builtins as the mouse constraint issue doesn't appear.
Do you really think CPU speed is causing the issue for you? I'm running a Core
2 Duo E6700, which in fairness is a fast CPU.

He's right. I ran AutoRun.exe, clicked Install and it works. I had just assumed
before that it would be calling Setup as normal. Plus I always run Setup on
discs normally in Wine. I'll have to try it in Windows at some point.

You seem to have a fast CPU then. I still have the problem, even though it's
much smoother than builtin.

I just tried again with a different dinput8.dll (from dll-files.com rather than
an old XP install), and this completely fixes the smoothness of the mouse input
for me.
It does introduce a new problem though - there now seems to be a box in which
the mouse can move which is smaller than the window, so you can't completely
move around the menu, and you can't look all the way around whilst playing for
instance. The box does seem to move around if you click and drag though.

------- Additional Comments From mrickma(a)gwdg.de 2007-24-06 16:33 -------
Todays wine git (24th June 2007) lets me install DNS-9.0
German again, but working with Ubuntu Feisty I get a similar attitude as
described by Susan earlier in this report. Dan Kegel's instructions, including
minimal native stuff, with Wine git 24th June 2007 on an a Debian Etch system,
resulted in some sucess: DNS9 came up showing the symbol in the taskbar, the
dialog for registering a new user and a minimal dragon bar, which could be
made freely movable and comparable to the one in W2k. My suspicion about the
partial sucsess is the version of Xorg, Etch uses 7.0 (goody), Feisty 7.2.
Regards
Michael
