Summary: msiexec hangs when installing msxml3.msi in 1.1.1
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.1
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: richedit

ReportedBy: dimesio(a)earthlink.net

Tested in openSUSE 10.3, Wine 1.1.1, with a clean wineprefix.
I tried this both using winetricks and running msiexec from the command line.
The Microsoft XML Parser Wizard starts up, but after clicking "Next" the first
dialog box disappears and the EULA dialog, which should be next, never appears.
There are no more messages in the terminal from that point, though Wine is
still running and has to be killed.
The console output is:
dimesio@linux-95tw:~> wine msiexec /i /home/dimesio/.winetrickscache/msxml3.msi

demonstration of the wrong behaviour
This bug has been mentioned on the wine mailinglist:
http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-devel/2004-May/027187.html
If you give atoi a string of an unsigned integer (>2^31) the wine
implementation gives a strange result (apparently alway the same integer).
The GNU-libc and the windows implementation gives the correct, unsigned
integer.

Screenshot of normal text and a form
I am running PC-BSD V1.5.1 and used the latest PBI update to update Wine from
the 1.0 series to 1.1.0 and all appeared to go OK. I have been using Wine since
the 0.9.x series to do my Taxes with a Windows version of TaxAct and it has
worked fine with the exception of a couple of minor problems.
After doing the update I ran up TaxAct and the first screen appeared normal.
All the text looked as it has all along. However, when I open up a form to
display the fonts appear to be grossly enlarged and the form is completely
unreadable. If I tab to an entry box that appears to be normal but any values
entered become unreadable when I tab away from it.
Attached are two screen shots, one of the text screen and the other of a form.
Please contact me if you need any additional information.

I just finished building and trying wine-1.1.0 with the app I maintain,
Mozart9. Unfortunately, although the app works well in wine (gold), browsing
_within_ the html help files appears broken.
The difficulty can be demonstrated most easily with the free Mozart "Viewer."
This is a helper app that allows a user to view Mozart's *.mz files, available
at:
http://www.mozart.co.uk/programs/mvsetup.exe
With the viewer installed, try: Help -> Help Topics -> Ordering Mozart
This will expand a list with "Ordering Mozart" as its first topic.
Choosing this correctly opens the first topic's help file and renders it with:
1) The banner graphic not displayed
2) The links to different ordering methods highlighted as active,
but not active. I.E., clicking on the link: "Ordering Mozart on line
via the internet" does not open the local url.
The link target for #2 above is present and available as the second topic in
the expanded topic list. However, trying to follow the link to it in the
first topic fails. Choosing the the second topic itself from the exploded list
will open the target page.
>From within the help display, links to external url's seems to work well.
For example the link to the Mozart home page opens without problems. The
problems appear limited to referencing links with targets in the help file
itself. The ordinary advantages of html help "cross-referencing" are missing
in this app.
I used Wine 1.1.0 on Linux, Slackware 12.1, a clean build, with apps
MozartViewer2006, and Mozart 9.2.7.0 (the full pgm.)

Hi there,
the problem was partially discussed in this thread:
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13225
You can find the interesting logfile in this attachment (also from the
mentioned thread):
http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=13855
The problem is that I get a log of these errors
err:d3d_surface:d3dfmt_p8_init_palette This code should never get entered for
DirectDraw!, expect problems
on the console while running the Sacrifice demo.
This doesn't seem to have any effect on the visuals, since I don't see any
obvious errors on the screen. However the statement "This code should never get
entered for DirectDraw!" indicates that this behaviour is NOT normal, so I'm
filing this as a bug here.
Hardware is:
nVidia GeforceFX 5900
Drivers are:
nvidia-drivers-100.14.19
I can create traces if needed! Just ask :-)
Greets,
Tobias Jakobi
