Bug #: 29224
Summary: WinMerge crashes on startup with builtin msvcp71
(purist)
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.33
Platform: x86-64
URL: http://winmerge.org/downloads/
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: enhancement
Priority: P2
Component: msvcp
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: RandomAccountName(a)mail.com
Classification: Unclassified
WinMerge crashes on startup after using winetricks alldlls=builtin, or just
WINEDLLOVERRIDES=msvcp71=b. The only output is:
err:heap:validate_block_pointer Heap 0x110000: bad flags 00000001 for in-use
arena 0x13d1f0
wine: Unhandled page fault on write access to 0x006f0057 at address 0x7bc49888
(thread 0009), starting debugger...
(The debugger never starts)
WINEDEBUG=warn+heap apparently works around it (crashes from an unimplemented
function instead).

I'm using Wine 1.1.20 (compiled from source using gcc version 4.3.2 20081105
(Red Hat 4.3.2-7) ) on Fedora 10 i386.
The problem is that .chm files aren't rendered (attachment) when:
-run from AutoCAD 2008 by help->help
-run by 'wine hh acad171.chm'
Maybe it is because of this error in terminal

This bug was once reported in bug #24564. It was indeed fixed in around
Wine-1.3.7 but the very same problem has been reintroduced recently (in
Wine-1.3.34).
The problem: videos in the game are freezing (always at the same point). Audio
keeps playing, and you can skip the frozen videos so it's not a showstopper
bug. Videos are using the Bink codecs.
Steps to reproduce the problem with the demo:
1. Install the demo as usual (DirectX installation is not needed).
2. Launch the demo. You will be greeted with an error message. 7 is a magical
number, so click on the <Ignore> button 7 times (bug #24563).
3. Start a new game from the menu. The first video begins to play but it stops
playing after 2-3 seconds. Skip the frozen video by pressing <Esc>. Here comes
the 2nd video, showing the same problem (the video is freezing after the first
few frames).
The result of the regression test:

Other bug(s) related to this commit: bug #29287.
Terminal output is the same as in bug #29545 (see attachment #38277).
The demo has a huge download size (1.3 Gb). I willingly provide logs or tests
if they are needed.

Oddly, you *can* hear the echo track for their voices.

+winsock log
We are using an administration program on windows written in c# (.net), and
with wine it will not connect to the ms sql server. With mono it goes further,
but it fails due an unimplemented .net function. With microsoft's dotnet 2.0 it
hangs on connection, and repeadly prints this message:
fixme:winsock:WSAIoctl unsupported WS_IOCTL cmd (98000004)
I'm attaching +winsock log, which shows, after this fixme it drops connection,
and tries again. Lastly it displays connection error message.
