Proposing a talk about WineTestBot

So as I said recently on wine-devel (*) I think it would be interesting to have a talk about the new WineTestBot. It could start with a status update and presentation of the new setup. Then it could present possible future developments, the related issues and open discussion on the role BuildBot should or should not play. This could also be an opportunity to discuss some policy aspects: when to drop an OS from the tested configurations, whether to only test the latest service pack, whether to systematically add / update some packages / libraries like msvcrt to their latest version, whether to only test in admin/elevated privileges mode, etc. It would also be an opportunity to review the set of Windows configurations that all patches should go through, and for developpers to call for more to be added. Though that last part can really already be done through Bugzilla or through discussion on wine-devel: http://bugs.winehq.org/buglist.cgi?product=Wine-Testbot&component=unknown I would also be pretty interested in getting suggestions / insights into how to solve some of the technical challenges in testing on real hardware. I already got some interesting pointers from Dan but there will likely still be unresolved issues. That should maybe happen after the presentation so as not to bore everyone with very narrow technical aspects though. Wine devs in Germany?

Hello all, Some time back I asked about the state of Wineconf this year. That was because I'll be in Slovenia from September 8-15 to attend to the ICMC conference and later I was planning of doing some tourism around Germany plus meeting some friends I have there. I'll visit at least Munich, Kaiserslautern and Berlin. I don't know if there are a lot of Wine devs in Germany, but just giving a heads up to you guys if you want to meet somewhere and hang around. Rethinking WineConf

Hi All, This past Wine conference, while great fun as always, was not as well attended as Wine conferences in the past. So I would like to stir up trouble by suggesting we rethink WineConf. For those that have not attended, the Wine conference has been a mostly annual affair since 2002. It is open to all, but is advertised as being aimed at Wine developers. About 35 people attend each year. It's been in Minnesota about every 3rd year, and is otherwise 'normally' somewhere in Europe. I see the primary goal as creating human bonds between otherwise anonymous people (aka going to the pub). It's a bonus if it also spurs resolution to tricky issues, or motivates people to get more done. So I'd like to ask folks to brain storm with me. How could Wineconf be different? If you've never been, what would encourage you to come? If you've been to a technical conference recently that you thought was well done, what did they do well? Anything we could emulate? Note on the wireless at the hotel

Folks, We had a miscommunication on wireless at the hotel. It'll be available in the conference room during Wineconf, but it'll cost you $10 / day to have it in your room. Sorry for the hassle. (But $99 is a great rate for downtown Minneapolis, and they are great rooms. Really.) Cheers, Jeremy

Video recording the keynote

Hi, I had planned to video record the keynote this year. As I can't be there this year perhaps someone else could do it... I know the consensus is usually "be there or be square" ;) but the current technology should make it pretty easy and non intrusive. My concept would have been: Simple recording device, Simple setup. * Small HD video camcorders are all the rage these days, if someone has one for usage, this could be it. * If using a Digital Still Camera: Do not record HD as this is limited to 5 minutes usually (due to license issues of h.264). Use smaller resolution 640x480 which is motion jpeg but usually the camera takes video as long as it fits the SD card. * Or... using a Android phone or iPhone or other video capable smartphone. My Samsung Galaxy S2 seems to be able record video with just the memory as limitation. (Test if it takes video longer than 5 minutes a piece before using ;) * Do from first or second seating row to get sound, just make sure Alexandre is in frame ;) * Slides recognizability is not necessary (hoping that Alexandre uploads them later on). * All likely possible without a tripod. * Just the keynote would make all not coming folks feel in touch. :) Ciao, Marcus

Make test agenda item

Folks, The agenda is fairly empty, so I think having a make test fest is a good idea. Last time I checked in, we had a non zero of computers other than Alexandre's successfully running make test to completion. It would be nice if, before you arrived on Saturday, you could run Winetest once so that your system is on record on test.winehq.org. (Instructions here http://wiki.winehq.org/ConformanceTests; I believe the Running WineTest in Wine provides the right directions). Dan has also set an ambitious goal of identifying and squeezing out flaky tests. It would be great if everyone could also run his script: http://kegel.com/wine/loop-fail.sh.txt and send him the results. Cheers, Jeremy
