Well, it DID break WINE and I am no longer able to use it. AND the uninstaller in Software Manager won't uninstall IE6. I tried a complete uninstall of Wine from Synaptic (also the wine library, by the way) and re-downloading it and re-installing it and it didn't make any difference. When I try to Execute a program from within Program Manager wine shuts down when I open the folder that contains IE6. (I think that's why it shuts down, but I really don't know what is going on with this.) Is there anything that I am able to do to get IE6 out of my machine all together? I'll have a look tomorrow to that. Anyway, it looks like you'd better file a bug against the codecs installers in wine. They seem to be the problem here. I set wine to win2000, installed DivX, Xvid, ffdshow, some mjpeg decoder and msvc6 dlls. I also set this registry key (some others appear at installation of the codecs). I420 doesn't work with divx.dll (if a string "vidc.i420"="divx.dll" is added), but if the fourcc is renamed to YV12 (with avifix), it works. Some codecs from codec packs seem to work, others don't. For example, the vfw i420 codec that is included in k-lite codec pack does not. If I find an easier way to install the required codecs with all registry keys, I'll post it. However, there is a way to use Registax now.
