Partially fixed in 0.9.56:
Now the menubar is visible, but the toolbar is still not displayed.

Created an attachment (id=11013)
--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=11013)
crash of Photoshop CS3
Just tested Photoshop CS3 as well, same story, the installer finishes fine with
native shdovcw etc.
Nicer then Indesign: it actually starts, initializes a lot of things, but then
crashes just before the fun begins. I attached the crash of the log, maybe
someone sees what's going on

I don't use the virtual desktop. I checked it two times before I posted it. No
idea regarding the result is different.

I can't confirm what Jan said. I did some extensive tests:
1) wine 0.9.56 (failsafe terminal)
a) no virtual desktop
i) ut: error message
ii) deus ex: error message
b) virtual desktop
i) ut: error message
ii) deus ex: error message
2) wine 0.9.56 (XFCE)
a) no virtual desktop
i) ut: error message
ii) deus ex: error message
b) virtual desktop
i) ut: error message
ii) deus ex: error message
3) wine GIT plus patch (failsafe terminal)
a) no virtual desktop
i) ut: no error
ii) deus ex: no error
b) virtual desktop
i) ut: no error
ii) deus ex: no error
4) wine GIT plus patch (XFCE)
a) no virtual desktop
i) ut: no error
ii) deus ex: no error
b) virtual desktop
i) ut: no error
ii) deus ex: no error
At least for me the error doesn't disappear as soon as I use XFCE.

Ok, i retested Indesign CS3
Still present is msxml3 bug, so i had to do
winetricks msxml3 wsh56js winver=xp
The bug "exit 4" indeed seems to be gone, but now it exits silently after a few
shdocvw-fixme's.
After overriding shdocvw, shlwapi, urlmon, mshtml, i got the installer finish fine
though!(At least that's what the installer says, if the installation is 100%
correct is still a question)
Unfortunately i wasn't able to start the app. It crashes immediatley with
wine InDesign.exe
fixme:advapi:RegisterEventSourceW ((null),L"Bonjour Service"): stub
wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000000 at address 0x416b66
(thread 000f), starting debugger...
then i get a window about "catastrophic license problem" or something the like

Are you using a virtual desktop to test this?

Using a recent git version (monday 25/2/2008 or newer) this problem should not
occur anymore in 2d programs. Before OpenGL was initialised at startup due to
some limitations on pixel formats in winex11.drv (we used the same pixel format
for the window and GL). This limitation has been lifted and due to that we
don't have to initialise opengl at startup anymore. Now you should only get the
issue if you launch e.g. an opengl program.
The crash itself is a GLX bug either in Mesa or VNC/Xephyr/Xnest.

cp2101.c investigated: still based on the primitive silabs linux driver:
extension for counters for TIOCGICOUNT maybe possible but extension for
TIOCMIWAIT would need synchronization, adaption to the actual kernel-api and so
a complete rewrite from scratch in the style of io_ti.c driver e.g. so
NOTOURBUG for wine, driver issue.
