Their previous version worked fine. The issue can easily be reproduced by installing the software and then starting `app_gma3.exe`. It will crash on startup. Judging by `wine: Unhandled page fault on execute access to 000000000000000F at address 000000000000000F (thread 010c)`, the problem seems to be in the application. By inspecting the `+relay` log a little closer the page fault only looks like a symptom of missing error handling. From what I can tell, the issue lies in wintrust.WinVerifyTrust but feel free to look trough the attached debug log yourself. I'd very glad to provide more in-depth debug info or help otherwise to aid in fixing this. Suggestions for workarounds are also appreciated. Thank you. PS. There is a contest currently ongoing that mandates the use of version 1.9 or higher. Many 16-bit games, especially the old Windows 3.1 games like "whack-a-mole", "Bricklayer" and many others I've tried simply don't work at all in Wine. Since there's too many 16-bit games to list, it makes sense to write one bug report covering the same problem i.e. problems running 16-bit games. Try some yourself from here: http://members.chello.at/theodor.lauppert/games/win16.htm Here I've found that the 32-bit version of tetris works in Wine, but the 16-bit version does NOT work at all (try it yourself from this link, you get to download both the 32-bit and 16-bit versions respectively, at the bottom of that page): http://members.chello.at/theodor.lauppert/games/tetrisjr.htm I'm pleased to say that the Ballistic (Paddle) game appears to work: http://www.classicdosgames.com/genre/paddle.html This bug report may appear trivial and not important, but playing old Windows games appeals to some people. These games will NOT work in dosbox. I cannot understand what would cause this. I tried to make pfx by openssl 1.0.1, also by microsoft windows built-in export-to- -pfx wizard. Also tried making pem-files, but got succesfull import only for public part of certificate. Also I tried making certificate request by windows CA and by Openssl, but still no luck. Also tried importpfx.exe -f certificate.p12 - p "1" -t USER -s MY. (With MACHINE parameter also) The output says that import suceeded. But i did not see any certificates in wine control. Importing of cer-files works. What am i doing wrong? The provided certificate is expired, but it shouldn't matter because of this flag. The chain validates properly on MacOS with Mono. However on Wine with dotnet472, the policy fails with error NotTimeValid. I believe there is a bug in `chain.c verify_base_policy`: https://github.com/wine-mirror/wine/blob/e6138a52a907fe4b9b03abe0b6cf6cfb9f…. In this if statement, the policy verification routine determines that the certificate has expired, but it should ignore the error if `checks` contains `CERT_CHAIN_POLICY_IGNORE_NOT_TIME_VALID_FLAG`, and this logic is missing. Using a clean Wineprefix set to Winearch=win32 and Windows-Version 98 I ran the game's "jgmd.exe" with (put into a bashscript): WINEARCH="win32" WINEPREFIX="/home/nutzer1/Dokumente/JGM/" WINEDEBUG=warn+all wine "/home/nutzer1/Dokumente/LIVING_BOOKS/jgmd.exe" (it doesn't work in a clean ~/.wine as well) This gave me the error: err:dosmem:setup_dos_mem Cannot use first megabyte for DOS address space, please report Looking it up I found you can circumvent this error by doing: sudo sysctl -w vm.mmap_min_addr=0 But now I'm getting the error: 00b8:err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 6BB42940 "../../../wine/dlls/krnl386.exe16/syslevel.c: Win16Mutex" wait timed out in thread 00b8, blocked by 00bc, retrying (60 sec) The retries are infinite, thus causing a softlock. There are multiple bug reports with the same issue already. Overall it seems to me that the issue was fixed before but somehow reappeared. When comparing it with a proper windows environment, the installer checks for available packages before giving the user the opportunity to select which packages to install (in my case the defaults plus the MFC libraries and the Windows 8.1 SDK, so the goal is to get this stack installed for an linux based build server which has to compile the windows binaries). While this takes some time on windows, wine instantly switches to the next "finalizing" step, which causes the application to close shortly afterwards. I suspect the winsock error causing the installer to not find any downloadable packages, resulting in a proper finalizing and closing. If any specific additional logs are required, please tell me and i will add them here instantly. I read that in the past this was fixed so that's a regression but since no-one has reported this and apparently no one has that problem, I'm filing this bug as normal. For the record: this bug happens since I installed linux, at the time Wine was at version 6.0. The Wine implementation returns each typeface many times. As a test case I installed the typeface "Signet Roundhand" and ran the attached test program. Under indows it returns "Signet Roundhand" once. Under wine it returns it three times, with different values for lfCharSet and tmCharSet. I also copied the Arial font files from Windows (arial.ttf, ariali.ttf, arialbd.ttf, and arialbi.ttf) to my $HOME/.fonts directory. Under Windows, Arial is returned once with the test program. So it looks like 1909 fell between the cracks and that the test should skip too somehow. This prefix is run exclusively with the 64 bit version of wine. With the currently set dll overrides and winetricks modifications, and starting with a wine version of 2.0 rc2, wine has had no problems running this game. However, upon trying to run it after updating to 2.0 rc5, the game launches, loads the names of the companies and a disclaimer about other engine components they used, and then crashes prior to reaching the main menu. I have attached the full output of the wine process when this occurs. This regression is not present in the current wine-devel version. All other video games installed to this prefix still function with no errors. These games include: Fallout: New Vegas, Bioshock, Mass Effect 1, Mass Effect 2. I have installed several windows DLLs using winetricks, and several others were installed by steam during game installation. This can be worked around by using the "Recommended" install type, but that means the user must manually change the game's installation directory after the game is installed. It should also be noted that changing the install directory causes the installer to display "_BrowseProperty" as the selected path after closing the folder selection dialog. (An older App DB report using wine 3.3 mentions the same problem and fixing it by installing d3d9.) There is no console output indicating a problem in that area (recreating the test with wine 3.3 gives plenty of d3dcompiler error messages; perhaps they have been silenced since then?). Since the other d3dcompiler related bugs I checked all seemed to have d3dcompiler error messages I opened this new report, though it very likely still is a duplicate. The reason why this happens is that the game binds a D3D11_SRV_DIMENSION_TEXTURECUBE view to a slot which expects the view dimension to be D3D11_SRV_DIMENSION_TEXTURECUBEARRAY. D3D11 drivers on Windows seem to accept this behaviour and use the cube map nonetheless. I came across the exact same issue while working on a Vulkan-based D3D11 implementation, and came up with a workaround which always creates a cube map array view even when the D3D11 application requests a non-array cube map, and also changes the shader code to always use cube arrays. Maybe Wine can implement a similar strategy to fix this issue. After the splash window there is a login dialog supposedly shown but the client area is rendered (overlayed?) black. Windows can do it since Win2000. 2) MOVE command doesn't support /Y key for overwriting target files. I mounted the flash drive using pmount which adds the noexec flag. Executing the application as in wine ./Client.exe works. However, the application also spawns Client.bin (presumably using CreateProcess) and that binary crashes on start when spawned from noexec filesystem. It raises an exception very early in Wine code so I guess the application is in no position to catch it. And it raises it in the spawned application, not the spawning application. The Client.bin itself is not executable (as in +x mode). I can add traces if needed but this should be easy to reproduce. I see multiple related problems here 1) wine does not check the noexec flag when loading a binary initially from the commandline but does check it (or uses a library function that does) when a windows application calls spawn or clone or whatever - inconsistency 2) wine checks the noexec in the wrong place - it should check before performing CreateProcess and report error in the calling application but it fails executing the created process and crashes 3) when wine fails executing an application due to the noexec flag it should produce an intelligible error message rather than crash -- Do not reply to this email, post in Bugzilla using the above URL to reply. Process is quite lengthy, so i switch focus to another window (e.g. browser) when virtual desktop is initialized. During steam load process, focus is stolen from browser. It remains as top-most window, but 'inactive'. And, e.g. to continue typing something in the browser i have to bring focus back. Few moments later (1-2), wine's window becomes top-most, even if i click inactive browser window to restore focus. During steam shutdown process, it steals focus again, but this time without bringing virtual desktop to top. Steam is just example: this occurs with numerous other apps, in some cases it may happen even multiple times during launch process of some complex application. For me as user, it is extremely annoying - i always thought that virtual desktop is a way to avoid integration between wine and OS WM, with its own tray and window management, and that virtual desktop should present itself as normal OS window.
