affects, in my experience, all versions >wine-0.9.46 or 0.9.47.
The problem is that i can't give you log files or something else, because
there's no error message. It's just that u click on the menu and nothing
happens.
You can download a demo version from the software here:

Let me know if i can do something to provide more information.

Summary: Installer windows for several Disney Interactive
products do not render correctly
Product: Wine
Version: 1.2-rc5
Platform: x86

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: trivial
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: markk(a)clara.co.uk
This bug report applies to at least three Disney Interactive products from the
years 1999 and 2000: Dinosaur Activity Centre, Magic Artist Studio and Toy
Story 2 Action Game.
On starting Setup.exe from the game CD, the initial window is not rendered
properly. It mainly consists of a grey background; the only part which is
rendered properly is the "sparkling" Disney logo. If you move the pointer over
where the buttons should be, they are drawn when the pointer passes over them.
(See the Windows screenshot to find where the hotspots are.)
With Wine *not* in virtual desktop mode, if you drag the window or activate
another window, it refreshes/renders correctly. (In virtual desktop mode the
window has no decorations, so cannot be dragged.)
After the window has refreshed, if you partly cover it with another window,
then click in the Setup window to bring it to the front, the just-revealed
parts are blank. That also happens in virtual desktop mode.
I have created an archive containing only those files sufficient to allow
Setup.exe to run. You can download it from
http://rapidshare.com/files/404357546/Disney.tar.bz2.html

in Megarace 3: Wine simply skips the videos without an error message. It's a
pity because there are some hilarious cutscenes in the game, featuring Lance
Boyle as the host of the game.
The company logos which should be played right after starting have the
following properties:
Video: WMV v7, 640x480 px, 4:3
Audio: WMA v7, 128 kbps, 44 kHz, Stereo, 16 bits
The cutscenes in the game are separated into 2 files:
a wmv file which also includes an audio track (WMV v7 / WMA v7)
and a corresponding wav file (ADPCM, Stereo, 22 kHz)
After installing WMP9 or 10 via winetricks the videos are still not playing.
The demo can be used to test the issue but it contains only one of the company
logos.

Summary: DbgHelp doesn't support DWARF-2 on Mac OS X
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.42
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Mac OS X 10.6
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: dbghelp
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: cdavis(a)mines.edu
Mac OS X has long had support for DWARF-2. Unfortunately, the current
implementation of DWARF-2 support in DbgHelp is tied to ELF. This means it
can't directly be used on Mac OS X, because Mac OS X does not support ELF.
I understand that getting things to work on Linux first takes priority over
getting them to work on Mac OS, but right now we Mac users are stuck with the
inferior stabs format. Plus, I get the feeling we're going to need this for
64-bit support. Also, DWARF happens to be the default format on 10.5 and up.
I also understand that the scheme that Apple uses is different from ELF
systems. Not only does DWARF-2 stuff get its own segment (__DWARF), but when
the binary is built, the DWARF stuff is put into a dSYM companion bundle. On
top of that, the dSYM bundle isn't even generated automatically for multi-file
builds. This means that:
- We have to invoke dsymutil to create the dSYM bundle.
- We have to install the dSYM bundle (if present) with each binary.
- We have to find the dSYM bundle to get DWARF-2 debug info.
I would be more than willing to help with this. (This might have even made a
good SoC project. Too late now...)

seems that the app starts "above" the desktop for some reason (i've attached

As I have not found a bug report for this already I've decided to create one
myself.
Many 16-bit games, especially the old Windows 3.1 games like "whack-a-mole",
"Bricklayer" and many others I've tried simply don't work at all in Wine. Since
there's too many 16-bit games to list, it makes sense to write one bug report
covering the same problem i.e. problems running 16-bit games.
Try some yourself from here:
http://members.chello.at/theodor.lauppert/games/win16.htm
Here I've found that the 32-bit version of tetris works in Wine, but the 16-bit
version does NOT work at all (try it yourself from this link, you get to
download both the 32-bit and 16-bit versions respectively, at the bottom of
that page): http://members.chello.at/theodor.lauppert/games/tetrisjr.htm
I'm pleased to say that the Ballistic (Paddle) game appears to work:
http://www.classicdosgames.com/genre/paddle.html
This bug report may appear trivial and not important, but playing old Windows
games appeals to some people. These games will NOT work in dosbox. Also
consider that 64-bit versions of Microsoft Windows won't even run 16-bit
programs and games, whereas Wine can sometimes get them working, as in the case
of the Ballistic game.

The file open dialog seems to be using a buffer which is too short for multiple

much more annoying since I'm unable to select over 6 files usually (using long
but not excessive names).
A dynamic buffer (with a reasonable limit for security reasons perhaps) would
be preferrable, but even a bigger buffer would help.
I think windows' buffer is 4k.

Under Windows it was possible to scroll diagonally using two arrow keys at the

e.g. I want to scroll into the upper left corner. I press left, it scrolls
left. I keep left pressed and press up -> It only scolls upwards.
Modifier keys like Ctrl are handled properly.
I don't think the game is based on dinput. At least, I don't get anything when
I enable the dinput debug channel.

Hi, a user submitted this new app into appdb with garbage test results, so i
gave it a try as well. That user reported a problem that the disk was full, but
i can't reproduce that, it fails differently here.
To run into this bug you need Alex Villacis' patch here:
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.emulators.wine.patches/49916
hopefully that patch will make it into git monday.
after applying that patch the intaller failed with a message 'Call not
implemented'
The problem seems to be:
fixme:MsiDatabaseGenerateTransformW
By just returning ERROR_SUCCESS, it ran into two other unimplemnted functions:
MsiQueryFeatureStateFromDescriptorA and MsiCreateTransformSummaryInfoW
By stubbing these out with ERROR_SUCCESS the installer claimed to be
successfull (but i guess that's doubtful).
Anyway , this all shows that these three functions need to be implemented to
get this installer finish, and that's where I created this bug for.

cmd.exe doesn't handle extension association.
Test case:
Install ActivePerl, create a dummy perl script test.pl and run
wine cmd /c test.pl
cmd.exe will try to run test.pl as Unix binary
trace:process:CreateProcessW starting L"C:\\\\test.pl" as Unix binary
and (probably) fail instead of running Perl.exe as the Windows XP command
cmd /c perl.pl
Source code analysis:
The function programs/cmd/wcmdmain.c:WCMD_run_program calls FindExecutable
but mostly ignores the result. This looks like an unfinished work.
Remark:
Theoretically, some program could rely on the association. As long as such
program is not known, this is a low priority issue. Users should prefer
the explicit command
wine perl test.pl
(or "wine start /W test.pl" if they want a new console).

Hi, F.E.A.R. installer requires entering serial number. It has several fields

I can enter:
* 4 "narrow" chars like 1111, iiii, etc.

or
* only 2 "extra fat" like WW
There are other pepole affected in AppDB:

This is show stopper. I own two original and none is usable under wine because

The Console log after a crash during the black screen after the opening video.
Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition will crash in semi-random places when
starting a New game. Some of these places include the black screen right after
the opening video, after inputting the player's name, after customizing the
character, During the Birthday scene when you are shooting the radroach with
your BB Gun, etc. It seams to be a script executing error as the game is
usually supposed to be doing something (ie. controlling the radroach so it
doesn't attack the player, moving an NPC somewhere, setting game values(player
name, how the player looks) when it stops. The Game has two different crashes
for these events, but only one shows at anytime. The first one is obvious and
the rarest a Message box pops up saying the Program encountered an error an
needs to close. A stacktrace is able to be retrieved in this case. The second
one is a freeze, ie the game is no longer controllable by the user, and the
render has stopped. Music and sound effects (such as talking) still work until
the program is killed, but the player cannot make any sound effects such as
walking or shooting a gun. The game's menus are also disabled.
I've followed the hq's guides on getting the program to run, with the small
exception of manually installing the Games for Windows Live client and .Net
Framework. As the game's installer hangs when the installer for those
components have crashed, and thus must be killed to allow the installer to
continue.
It must be noted that a save game made after Vault 101 will work normally. It's
unknown if it's the result of the save being from another computer with the
game running normally or just after Vault 101 because i can't get the game past
Vault 101 when starting a new game.

The installer for the app I'm looking at now
checks for the visual c++ 2008 runtime, and runs
D:\\Redistributable\\vcredist_x86_en.exe if it wasn't found.
Now, one of these days, Wine's builtin msvcr / msvcp is going to suffice
for this and most other apps, at which point Wine might want to set
the registry to indicate that vcrun2008 is already installed.
This might be in the distant future, depending on how many apps need
the other things that come with the runtime package, like mfc and a full
msvcp, that wine does not yet provide. So this bug will likely remain
open for a long time (if it's not closed for being too far ahead of its time).
For the record, this seems to be how the app is checking whether vcrun2008
is installed:

Summary: Buffer overflow in WCMD_run_program

Version: 1.1.36
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: cmd
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dima(a)gmail.com
The WCMD_run_program function in wcmdmain.c copies pathposn into thisDir
without checking the size:
/* Work on the first directory on the search path */
pos = strchrW(pathposn, ';');
if (pos) {
memcpy(thisDir, pathposn, (pos-pathposn) * sizeof(WCHAR));
thisDir[(pos-pathposn)] = 0x00;
pathposn = pos+1;
} else {
strcpyW(thisDir, pathposn);
pathposn = NULL;
}
The size of pathposn can be up to MAXSTRING, while thisDir has size MAX_PATH.

These are needed to support Japanese applications.
On Windows there is MS Gothic which is duplicated as MS PGothic and MS UI
Gothic. The later have the Latin range proportional, the first one has the
Latin range fixed width but I suspect these are really the same font with
different spacing.
There is also MS Mincho (and MS PMincho with proportional Latin). This differs
form Gothic in the style of the Japanese glyphs.

Native cmd echoes commands after some canonicalization has been done
on their redirects. A batch file containing
dir 1> ok
dir > bad
dir | bad
dir > blah > bad
echoes as
dir 1> ok
dir 1> bad
dir | bad
dir 1> bad
(note the extra space inserted before the > or |).
Wine's cmd doesn't currently do this, but it could probably
do so without too much trouble; it already collects redirects
separately for each command.
For the moment I'll probably put a kludge in the cmd conformance
test runner to compensate.

results from each selection - as well as the game's built debugger log.
For anyone wishing to confirm, just try Tutorial 1. It will crash in under

not many battles to load. I was using the Demo CD I got in a promo.

Summary: NamedPipe datagrams need to be _really_ datagrams
Product: Wine
Version: unspecified

Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: ntdll
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: lkcl(a)lkcl.net
ok, after a little bit of investigation, i think i understand the pipes code
enough to be able to say what's going on, and i'm seeing something like this:
process 1:
recvpipe = CreateNamedPipe("\\pipe\fred")
ReadFile(recvpipe, buffer, &length);
printf(length) ===> 43
ReadPipe(recvpipe, buffer, &length); /* no data */
process 2:
sendpipe = CreateNamedPipe("\\pipe\fred")
length = 9;
WriteFile(sendpipe, buffer, &length);
length = 34;
WriteFile(sendpipe, buffer, &length);
what's happening is that the data being sent down the pipes isn't being done as
datagrams. the implementation is using a stream-based fd.
the solution is: you _must_ implement a protocol on top of the pipes which
sends the length (as a 32-bit int, whatever) which is read off the fd, followed
by the data stream of _exactly_ that length.
_must_. there's no two ways about this.
the protocol of Pipes is unfortunately a combination of both datagrams and
streams. datagrams because the lengths of data sent are absolute and
inviolate. streams because the data order and reliability are _also_ absolute
and inviolate.
you can't use datagrams (because they're unreliable). you can't expect all
unixen to support datagrams on top of unix sockets (if that's what's being
used).
so - you have to send the length, as part of the implementation of the
pipe-data-send.
sending a length will also solve the issue of trying to send zero-length pipe
datagrams.
as a first implementation, you _might_ be able to get away with assuming that
when someone asks for some data, they _will_ provide a buffer big enough.
... actually... i don't see any ERR_MORE_DATA error codes in NtReadFile, so
that would explain... this is going to get messy :)

Running wine-1.1.48_1.2rc5-1.1, i downloaded the demo from velumng.com, a race
management software.
So far it works well, I created a race, two participants, entered start and end
time, but when I come to the result list creation, the load goes up to 100%,
and caused a hang of the X-session once.
At this point it seems to load a HTML-page that was dynamically generated. wine
did not submit any error message when started from console.
Let me know what I can do to come to a more verbose error output.

http://www2.stickyinc.com/download/getDownload.php?idTag=BOSTN-1668&action=…
which downloads the installer in question,
InstallStickyDrive-BOSTN-1668.exe.)
The installer puts up a dialog box of drive letters,
saying "Please select a valid removable drive...",
but nothing is listed, even if you have a USB drive
inserted and Wine has already created a d: mapping for it.
If you click on the "Show all drives"
checkbox, all drives are indeed shown.
Happily for us, this dialog box is in a separate
executable. While that prompt is up, grab a copy
of C:\windows\temp\SDDriveSelector.exe
You can then reproduce the problem easily by running
just that .exe.
+relay shows it's using GetDriveType() on each drive,
but evidently it doesn't like what it's getting.
You can work around this by using winecfg to mark d:
as a floppy, but really, wine should know that the inserted
USB drive is removable, shouldn't it?

I'm not sure if this can be changed before the introduction of .po files but

Hi,
GPSTrack is a proprietary software to manage maps and gps.
It is available for download for a free 15 days trial here :
http://www.gpstrack.com/Programmes/vista/setup.exe
Interesting note from the about box :
"To read and exploit image files, GPSTrack is using an ActiveX component
developped by DataTech (http://www.datatech.com).
This ActiveX can read most of public domain image file formats: BMP,GIF, JPG,
PNG, TIFF, PCX, PhotoCD, etc. ..."
"Small" images (5000x5000 px) loads perfectly on GPSTrack/wine, but big maps,
like 10kx10k px, it doesn't work with wine, the map frame remain grey and
doesn't refresh.
To reproduce the problem, create a big picture in one of the supported formats,
and load it in the app via File->New map.
Regards,
François.

When i switch a ribbon based application like word or excel 2007 from window
mode to full mode everything works on my primary monitor (i can repeat it
without problems).
On the extended monitor the switch from window to full works for the first
time. If the switch is performed a few times (usually two times)
* the window is stuck at the extended monitor and maintaining full mode
and
* all dialog windows (e.g. file open dialog) do not appear because the main
window has a permanent focus (the dialog windows are behind the main program
window and wait for OK --> as the buttons are out-of-reach, the program looks
completely "frozen")
This situation then is permanently maintained because this setting ist stored
in the registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER
* for Word [Software\\Microsoft\\Office\\12.0\\Word\\Data]
* for Excel [Software\\Microsoft\\Office\\12.0\\Excel\\Options]
Workarround is:

first, but it disappears when clicking on any of the items in the list.
The problem is gone if native ctl3d32.dll is used. The program gives no
terminal output by default, and I don't see an obvious ctl3d debug channel in
the list on the wiki, so let me know what kind of debug log would be useful...

Wine-1.1.25
I'm using Wine 1.1.25 (compiled from source using gcc version 4.4.0 20090506
(Red Hat 4.4.0-4) ) on Fedora 11 i386.
When i try to restart race the game freezes. The Wine error window is showed
but it's in background. The same problem is after finished race. This problem
doesn't occur every time but its often and easy to catch. Sometimes I can
restart the race every time without a freeze. I noticed that it's depended on
game start where restarts will work every time /restarts won't work every time.
I cut terminal output because this was repeating

Summary: Microsoft Pinball Arcade black/blank window in 24bpp
mode
Product: Wine
Version: 1.0-rc1
Platform: PC
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: vanessaezekowitz(a)gmail.com
Created an attachment (id=13030)
--> (http://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=13030)
Screenshot of real 8bpp mode
Microsoft Pinball Arcade (commercial/full version) doesn't work properly in
WINE if you're using a regular, standard-issue 24bpp X session. Intro/menu
screens work, but the 3D content (direct3d? ddraw?) just produces a black
screen.
Steps to reproduce:
0. Obtain a copy of the game (maybe the demo version will do?). cd into your
'drive c' directory and start the game: `wine Program\ Files/Microsoft\
Games/Pinball\ Arcade/Launcher.exe`
1. A movie displays showing a closeup of one of the game's tables.
2. Click on the movie to interrupt it. The title screen appears and looks
fine.
3. Click again, table select menu appears and waits for input.
4. Click on any menu item at the bottom of the window - a dialog related to it
appears as it should.
5. Double-click on one of the tables - the table selection screen gets blacked
out, the window resizes, and the table's loading screen appears all in the same
instant - without repainting the window - the loading screen only painted on
the parts of the window that were already black. So we have a window half
filled with the loading screen and half transparent, showing this browser and
the controlling terminal through it.
6. The loading screen disappears and the window turns solid black. A windows
pointer appears. On the console, the "Cannot change screen BPP" line appears.
7. Clicking around eventually causes the pointer to disappear, probably because
I managed to trigger the insert-coin hot spot followed by the "1 player"
hotspot, thus starting the actual game. Hitting Esc is supposed to bring up a
graphical exit/no-exit dialog, but nothing appears. Blindly hitting "y" puts
me back at the table-select screen as it should. So the actual game is
accepting input, it just isn't showing me anything.
7a. If I try another table, I get the exact same result, including another
"Cannot change screen BPP" line on the console.
8. Double-click the table-select menu's internal Exit button and Wine drops
back to my shell after a couple of seconds.
Actual Results:
Described above - I get a black window instead of a game table.
Expected Results:
Wine should have displayed the table properly and let me play the game.
Notes:
In order to run this game properly, the user *must* have a true 8bpp mode
with StaticColor visual defined in their xorg.conf, and the user *must*
manually run a second, separate X screen (e.g. one accessible with Ctrl-Alt-F8)
in that more with that visual.
Desipte having a known, tested, working 8bpp mode in xorg.conf, Xorg does not
have any kind of ability to switch away from the currently-running depth to
some other mode (e.g. it cannot and never will be able to drop from 24bpp to
8bpp), and is not expected to ever have such a feature. Furthermore, some
users' hardware does not have the ability to run in true 8bpp mode at all, so
this game simply *will not work* on those systems.
ply does not work on some hardware, despite having correct software settings.
The attached screenshot shows what the game looks like in reap 8bpp
"StaticColor" mode, using twm as a window manager (it looks the same without a
window manager).
Versions affected:
All WINE versions from roughly 0.9.31 through the current 1.0 rc1 release.

Summary: Can't disable unixfs
Product: Wine
Version: 1.1.43

Component: shell32
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: dank(a)kegel.com
dlls/shell32/shfldr_unixfs.c claims that you can disable unixfs
by deleting the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\Namespace\{9D20AAE8-0625-44B0-9CA7-71889C2254D9}
but unfortunately wine will recreate that key the next time you run
a newer version of Wine.
To repeat, do
rm -rf ~/.wine
wine regedit /d
'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\Namespace\{9D20AAE8-0625-44B0-9CA7-71889C2254D9}'
wine notepad # Do File/Open and note that / does not appear in My Computer.
wineserver -w
~/wine-git/wine notepad # Do File/Open and note that / *does* appear.
If we really want to disable unixfs, we may want a configure option
to not even compile it in. I have a patch ready, will send it in.

S197 How The Universe Works is part of a university course materials.
S197 uses the Toolbook Runtime 7.0, but on calling the app, it immediately
causes an unhandled page fault.
Waiting a few minutes brings up a dialog stating, "Cannot find TB70NET.EXE (or
one of its components)."
S197 is designed specifically for this version and is included in the app's
program folder, so upgrading to a newer version is not an option.
Running TB70RUN.EXE directly causes the same page fault.
To install TB7 directly, I had to set winecfg to Win95 mode.

Summary: PhysX causes major lag in Mirror's Edge.

When the PhysX option is enabled (setting in the Video Options) in Mirror's
Edge. When 'physics' things start to occur the game starts to get some major
lag becoming unplayable.
Mirror's Edge doesn't make too much use of PhysX (I believe it was on of the
first games with support for it), afaik it's mostly used for enabling
shattering glass to create shards and maybe some bits of paper on the ground.
As such this only seems to happen at specific points in the game. For example
Chapter 1 Flight->Check Point D. As you are running across the bridge, the
helicopter starts to shoot the glass causing it to shatter.
If you continue on to the next area, at some point (when you go underground) it
suddenly returns to normal speed (most likely it has unloaded the previous
area).
With PhysX set to off, there is no lag but no glass shards.

Slingplayer has a video tuning wizard to allow things like brightness and

The wizard fails at the first step with the message "Advanced Video Options

Both classes are related to the Video Mixing Renderer 9, part of DirectX.
"winetricks directx9" does not workaround the problem.
To get to this point, native quartz, qcap and gdiplus are required to work
around other bugs.

Summary: Column headers don't always resize to fit text when
double-clicked
Product: Wine
Version: 1.3.12
Platform: x86
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: trivial
Priority: P2
Component: -unknown
AssignedTo: wine-bugs(a)winehq.org
ReportedBy: turbolad995(a)hotmail.co.uk
When you try to double-click (with the left mouse button) on a column header
WHEN THE MOUSE POINTER SHOWS DOUBLE BLACK ARROWS, like this <-|->
the column is supposed to resize to fit the longest line of text below it
perfectly.
In programs such as Pegasus Mail and many others which use resizeable columns
e.g. 1by1 Player, double-clicking the column header results in any of the
following:
* nothing happens
* messes up the columns - depending on text size
* the column will resize properly
Although trivial, I believe Wine users should report bugs when they are
discovered.
Please test this using 1by1 Player and play around with the font size in the
application's settings (press <F6> to get into the program's settings). Now
try resizing the columns with different font sizes and double-clicking the
vertical lines which separate the columns. Download 1by1 Player:
