Steps to get it running on a fresh wineprefix: * Install WebView2 runtime using the "Evergreen Standalone Installer" for x64 from Inst https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-edge/webview2 * Set Windows version to Windows 7 or 8. * Use my "SimpleWebView2Browser" binaries from https://github.com/felixhaedicke/SimpleWebView2Browser/releases/tag/v0.1 It is sufficient to set the Windows version for "msedgewebview2.exe" (which is part of the WebView2 runtime): wine reg add "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Wine\AppDefaults\msedgewebview2.exe" /v Version /t REG_SZ /d win8 It does not work with Windows version set to 8.1, 10 or 11. The problem is probably that WebView2 tries to use the DirectComposition API on Windows 8.1 or newer. Message in the WebView2 debug log: DCompositionCreateDevice failed: Not implemented. (0x80004001) The attached WebView2 debug log was captured using the WebView2 logging functions, which can be enabled using the WEBVIEW2_ADDITIONAL_BROWSER_ARGUMENTS environment variable. Hello, I'm working on a Uniscribe text editor and doing a bit of testing with Wine too, and I've hit an issue where the ScriptPlace() function's last argument, the ABC width of the run, occasionally has an inconsistent width as compared to the sum of the advance width elements provided through the piAdvance array. It has a lot of glitches and crashes very often. If it crashes, I have to select another Sound Device in the StarCraft settings to enable the sound again. Pre 1.3.19 using a mmdevapi override (disabled) was enough to enable sound. If I understand it right, bug 47808 was primarily about native libraries getting called at a win32 stack which was not yet committed. Those native libraries then jumped over the guard page, therefore the stack got not grown, instead a crash reported. This aspect was fixed by using the syscall interface and therefore bug 47808 was closed. But there is another issue that causes a msys2-forked process crashing, because after the stack was grown it still misses the PAGE_READWRITE flags. For this Zeb Figura included in the first attachement to bug 47808 "always expand the stack if within the stack reserve" a line adding the flags "VPROT_COMMITTED | VPROT_READ | VPROT_WRITE" to the page that gets the VPROT_GUARD removed in grow_thread_stack. This modification still enables a forked process to run. The issue can be reproduced with an unmodified wine by just - running msys2 bash.exe interactively - then trying to start e.g. notepad from it. Attached file shows the stack when the stack gets allocated - in a working msys2-parent process and - in a failing msys2-forked child process. However, compared to a native Windows environment (or not bridging the plugins), there is a problem when drawing the plugin UI. The plugin UI window itself is a borderless window that belongs to the bridge process, and is then set as a child of the actual plugin window that belongs to the OpenMPT process using SetParent(...). This works just fine on Windows, but in Wine, the child window remains completely black. If parts of the child window are redrawn by the bridged process, they become visible, but as soon as a redraw for the parent window is issued (e.g. by setting the focus to it), these areas become black again. Steps to reproduce: 1) Install OpenMPT. 2) Create a new module. 3) Open the plugin manager ("Select" button at the bottom of the created module's window) and add any VST plugin that provides its own UI (e.g. http://www.geocities.jp/daichi1969/softsynth/index.html#down) 4) Be sure the "Use Plugin Bridge" checkbox is checked (it is also fine if it is checked but greyed out) 5) Click "Put in FX01" to load the plugin. 6) Click the "Edit" button next to the "Select" button to open the plugin's UI. 7) The UI will be completely black, with child controls becoming occasionally visible if you click them. Not reproducible with the native Wayland driver, nor when running the game under X Server in full-screen mode. Doesn't occur with XWayland and virtual desktop mode in Wine. I have Screamer 4x4 from GOG.com. Demo version is available elsewhere but the bug is not reproducible with the demo. There is an intro movie that is intended to play when you start the game. It is a 1 min 32 seconds long avi file using Intel Indeo Codec 5. The video is not playing in Wine, shows only a black screen, at least it can be skipped by pressing <space>. The video is playing properly using gst-play. When the main menu is loaded, music begins to play (it is a mp3 file). Not interacting with the game in any way, just idling in the menu, there is a crash always exactly after 40-50 seconds. If I open the credits screen from the menu, another track begins to play while the credits are rolling; after exactly 40-50 seconds, the game crashes just as it does in the main menu. If I disable music, the crash doesn't occur in the menus. Here's the twist: with music disabled but sound effects enabled, I start a new game from the menu, and after that same 40-50 second window, the game crashes in the same way. Finally, renaming/removing that one video file makes the crashes go away. Reverting commit 330b680af6130d654cd79e322506e044f64dd220 on top of current git also resolves the crash related issue. If an assembler is specified using --as-cmd, that program is used; otherwise the system assembler is used. Wine's build system, unfortunately, does not allow the user to set the assembler to pass to winebuild. The usual way to set the assembler to use is to set the AS variable, but the build system does not respect it. This is a problem, for example, on Mac OS X when building with Clang with its integrated assembler turned on. Clang's integrated assembler supports .cfi directives, but the system assembler doesn't. During configure, a test file containing .cfi directives is passed to the compiler, on the assumption that it would be then passed to the system assembler. With Clang's integrated assembler, this assumption is broken. Thus, when winebuild tries to assemble files containing .cfi directives (because it believes that the system assembler supported them), it fails as a result. F7 00 00 00 (125 bytes). http://www.winehq.org/pipermail/wine-devel/2013-February/098852.html He observed that no hang occurs when skipping the trailing 3 zero bytes. F7 is the "End Of SysEx" (EOX) marker. It is still unclear what happens. MIDI HW is expected to skip over bogus bytes, thus the zero bytes should cause no harm. OTOH, ALSA might be getting into trouble processing ill-formed messages, and we don't know if or how many bytes ALSA actually sent out through the serial port. In any case, midiOutLongMsg handling in Wine needs fixes. - winealsa should extract the F0...F7 part and send that as a SysEx. - More generally, midiOutLong is known to accept not only SysEx packets, but also coalesced status messages. Some MIDI authors prefer to send e.g. chords via one LongMsg rather than successive calls to midiOutShortMsg, arguing that it's faster. Hence all Wine MIDI drivers need to decompose midiOutLongMsg into packets consisting of status message, regular SysEx ... and possibly junk. - All APIs (MS, ALSA, OSS, CA) acknowledge the existence of divided SysEx. As a result, framing SysEx with F0 ... F7 is entirely under application control. The current winealsa framing code is simply wrong. - winecoreaudio always declared 3 bytes for short messages, even program change. I have written a sequence of patches to fix all of this. The only thing that is unclear is how to encapsulate garbage data like the above 3 zero bytes or real time messages with ALSA. What ALSA API function and what ALSA message type to use? The problem: the game starts fine and mouse/keyboard work as expected in the menus, but when I start a mission the game is stuck in the loading screen. The game is not completely dead because game tips are cycling through on the screen and the text 'Press any key to continue' is flashing, but the game doesn't accept mouse or keyboard input any more so I can't get in the game. The ACPC.exe process is consuming 30-40% cpu, but nothing happens, I have to kill the process to exit. It relies on layered windows and DwmExtendFrameIntoClientArea to handle the transparent display. Currently, the main UI elements show, but the game (or any other application) does not show through. This seems to be because DwmExtendFrameIntoClientArea is only a stub. I'm not sure if that's the only reason it's not transparent, but it's at least one of the reasons. The program itself uses the unity3d engine along with some native dll calls to the relevant user32 apis to handle the transparency. I was able to get a copy of the relevant code (but not the whole application), of which I will attach. Since I can't get all of the code, I've been using an unity sample application to try to figure out some parts myself (the relevant code is here https://github.com/pheonise/Unity3D-Desktop-Overlay/blob/master/Assets/Scri…) This unity3d application works as expected on windows, but is not transparent via wine (as expected). When i comment the call to DwmExtendFrameIntoClientArea, then it its also no longer transparent on windows as well. It seems that if the sample application works, then I can make sure the dev applies to the same technique to the overlay application. Their previous version worked fine. The issue can easily be reproduced by installing the software and then starting `app_gma3.exe`. It will crash on startup. Judging by `wine: Unhandled page fault on execute access to 000000000000000F at address 000000000000000F (thread 010c)`, the problem seems to be in the application. By inspecting the `+relay` log a little closer the page fault only looks like a symptom of missing error handling. From what I can tell, the issue lies in wintrust.WinVerifyTrust but feel free to look trough the attached debug log yourself. I'd very glad to provide more in-depth debug info or help otherwise to aid in fixing this. Suggestions for workarounds are also appreciated. Thank you. PS. There is a contest currently ongoing that mandates the use of version 1.9 or higher. The problem is that whenever File->Open displays a folder in the open file dialog it checks whether it contains a desktop.ini file to display the right icon. That's not cached, thus incurring a few file lookups per folder displayed. For local file systems that's fast enough but on network shares with a non-trivial RTT the speed impact is significant. A 10+ ms RTT makes the dialog essentially unusable. Note that when displaying a filename we have everything in the cache so redisplays are lightning fast and track the mouse. Also Microsoft Office has the same problem even though it does not use the standard comdlg32 dialog (though that may depend on the Windows version being emulate). On Windows Microsoft Office suffers no slowdown in this situation. What this means is that the standard common dialog is probably the wrong level for fixing this. Hacking SHELL32_GetCustomFolderAttributeFromPath() in shell32 to just return FALSE speeds things up greatly. Doing reflink on the CopyFileW interface (which is what rundll32 uses to get wine.ini set up) would greatly reduce the disk space burden associated with setting up a fresh prefix. Removal of real disk IO would also make the process a lot faster. When 'physics' things start to occur the game starts to get some major lag becoming unplayable. Mirror's Edge doesn't make too much use of PhysX (I believe it was on of the first games with support for it), afaik it's mostly used for enabling shattering glass to create shards and maybe some bits of paper on the ground. As such this only seems to happen at specific points in the game. For example Chapter 1 Flight->Check Point D. As you are running across the bridge, the helicopter starts to shoot the glass causing it to shatter. If you continue on to the next area, at some point (when you go underground) it suddenly returns to normal speed (most likely it has unloaded the previous area). I waited for 5 minutes, but the process still didn't exit. The problem happens only when using the native Wayland driver (DISPLAY= wine div.exe), but it is not reproducible under XWayland or when running the game under X11 (XFCE). This was reproduced with NVIDIA driver 580.126.09 and with NVK / Mesa 25.3.4. Running the game under Weston 14.02 also triggers this bug. Both the Steam and GOG.com versions are affected, but the original demo version is not. Disabling CSMT resolves the problem for me. FWIW, it was commit de0fc7fd (from Wine-10.11) that enabled the game to display properly in Wayland, and the issue was already present then. Prior to that commit, the game displayed only a black screen while running; however, navigating blindly to the 'Quit' button in the menu resulted in a clean shutdown. Plain terminal output doesn't reveal anything, let me know if any debug log would help. In XWayland and virtual desktop mode the menu appears correctly. The problem doesn't occur under X Server and using full-screen (XFCE). I also reproduced the issue in Weston 14.0.2; this rules out the possibility of it being a bug specific to KDE Plasma or KWin as far as I know. I can't check out the native Wayland driver because it has it's own problem: the Steam window is empty/black using Wayland. The same problem with Wine-9.0, 10.0 etc. Wine-Staging has this problem, too. You can reproduce the problem even though you don't have a Steam account. Install the Steam client, let it perform the auto-update and when the login window appears click on <Create a free account> in the lower right corner. There is a drop-down menu under Country of residence, when opened in full-screen mode (XWayland), the list of countries appear behind the main Steam window. I can confirm it has, and does, work fine under Wine 2.21 - just tested today on a MacBookPro8,1 running the official binaries (https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/macosx/pool/winehq-staging-2.21.pkg) under OS 10.13.6. Meanwhile, I have a new Mac (MacBookPro16,2 - Intel-based), on which I’ve deployed Wine 7.0 via homebrew under OS 12.6.1. There I can start nfremote just fine... but it ignores my mouse input. If I were to start it with the command-line argument "run", it presents me with a window where both keyboard and mouse input are accepted; there I can type in the text fields, so I know it's responsive. But when I hover the cursor over buttons, they do not 'light up’ to indicate such. And when I click, nothing happens. Even in years past, I found that newer versions of Wine exhibited the issue I describe below, so I simply never updated beyond 2.21. In the log there were indications that something might be wrong with the xaudio 2_7 dll. So I just applied faudio via winetricks and the games work again. Unfortunately this is not a permanent solution as there is a bug on platforms like Mac OS, FreeBSD that if you use native,buildin xaudio the sound does not work correctly in terms of stuttering and slightly distorted sound. As far as I know the games worked correctly in Wine 6.0.1. Unfortunately it is not possible for me to test more in wine-devel because the port is very often defective and also just once again not working. Sometimes it's the whole character and sometime only their weapon or boat. It doesn't seem to be tied to any action or event, they'll become grey and then rendered correctly again with color. Tested this with Wine 9.3 inside Wine Steam. Also, in puzzle mode, when there's a single player, it doesn't seem to happen as fast or at all. Many 16-bit games, especially the old Windows 3.1 games like "whack-a-mole", "Bricklayer" and many others I've tried simply don't work at all in Wine. Since there's too many 16-bit games to list, it makes sense to write one bug report covering the same problem i.e. problems running 16-bit games. Try some yourself from here: http://members.chello.at/theodor.lauppert/games/win16.htm Here I've found that the 32-bit version of tetris works in Wine, but the 16-bit version does NOT work at all (try it yourself from this link, you get to download both the 32-bit and 16-bit versions respectively, at the bottom of that page): http://members.chello.at/theodor.lauppert/games/tetrisjr.htm I'm pleased to say that the Ballistic (Paddle) game appears to work: http://www.classicdosgames.com/genre/paddle.html This bug report may appear trivial and not important, but playing old Windows games appeals to some people. These games will NOT work in dosbox. In Horizon Chase Turbo (tested Epic Games Store version), gamepads are only usable if they have always been connected since the game has been launched. Otherwise, their inputs are completely ignored, and these gamepads will not be listed in the player mapping screen (Multiplayer). This is not the case on Windows. The only exception is in the title screen: "Press Any Button" does work with hotplugged gamepads. Logs are taken on a fresh prefix with `WINEDEBUG=+dinput`. Examining the file with MediaInfo shows what looks like a reasonable container with video and audio parts, but only 1ms duration. The issue you are now running into is: fixme:ntoskrnl:MmMapLockedPagesSpecifyCache (0x111988, 0, 1, (nil), 0, 32): stub The MmMapLockedPagesSpecifyCache command is used to map memory of a process into the kernel, so that a kernel driver can write / read it. This is necessary since the kernel does not share the same address space as the process. The problem is that this command is a stub and always returns 0 as mapped address. The Tages protection does not check for NULL pointers and tries to write to the address resulting in: wine: Unhandled page fault on write access to 0x00000000 at address 0x57fe27 (thread 0018), starting debugger... The problem is that there is no way to properly implement this on Linux since there is no way to simply map the memory of a different process if you are not inside the kernel. Since wine is no kernel module it can only use memory of different processes, when they explicitly create it as shared memory block. Sadly you can not declare a memory block as shared after it was allocated, so this does not help implementing this command. Anyway in the case of the Tages protection we have some luck since it seems like the process is paused (I think it was waiting for the response of the DeviceIoControl function) while the memory is changed by the windows kernel driver. This allows us to emulate the mapping of the memory by using ReadProcessMemory and WriteProcessMemory. I wrote some hack to implement this, but this only prevented the crash and made the application to exit silently. I found using it under Wine quite uncomfortable, because of a few bugs. Here is one of them: - install the application. In my case it went without any glitches. - run the application. - open the attached sample data file, using menu "Plik" ("file") and "Otworz" ("open"). - wait a few seconds to open data file, when it is loaded you see some text in the middle, starting with "dziekujemy za skorzystanie z programu". - in the menu, choose "Rozliczenia" ("statements") and "e-deklaracje" ("e-declarations").
