In Windows, you can type the first characters of a word and the cursor will jump to the first item matching *all* the characters you typed. This allows you to drill down quickly to the item you want. In Wine, when you start typing it only considers the *last* character you typed when looking for a match. On listboxes where you have lots of items starting with the same character, this can make it problematic to drill down to the correct item. This may be better explained with a simple example. Pressing repeatedly TAB key does not iterate over all window elements. In ReactOS & Wine only links are selected while M$ Windows focuses buttons and checkboxes too. This issue may apply system-wide to other 3rd party applications however I noticed it first in μTorrent 2.2.1 (25302). Did not notice that using Wine apps. But in Wine 3.5, DirectX crashes in the beginning of installing and says "Internal system error occured. Please refer to DXError.log and DirectX.log in your Windows folder to determine problems". And now I have to create the game prefix by any other command like winecfg and install DirectX in this already created prefix, it doesn't crash in this way. In this application, the edit control TEdit can display a given charset. With Wine 1.7.49, this does not work. The attached image shows a demo application displaying this problem: on the left side Windows 7, on the right side Wine 1.7.49 (under Linux Mint 17.1). The charset of the five components is "EASTEUROPE_CHARSET". The yellow rectangle shows the problem with wine. P.S. As TButton is a wrapper around a Windows control, the charset does not work. In Windows if dragging the open file dialog to a new location, on the next time it is opened it will be opened at the same location. In Wine it is always opened at the top left corner of the application. This is quite inconvenient on a big screen with maximized app. Note that when resizing the dialog, wine does remember the size on the next open so hopefully the position could be a slight extension to this. When running the install with the command "wine start /unix '/run/media/mark/USB DISK/Paintshop Pro/Paintshop Pro Ultimate 2018/psp2018_ult/Setup.exe'" the install crashes while on the fist screen of the setup that announces the installation wizard is starting. Perhaps a newer version of Wine would fix the issue. I also have different versions of Paintshop Pro that I could try as I have been using it under Windows for years. I am extremely new to Wine after trying in a it back in 1997 so I might be able to fiddle and get the install to run. I am running OpenSuse Leap 15.2 and installed their package of wine with command, "zypper install wine." The crash only occurs when running under wine, as opposed to running in Windows. I found a workaround that seems to point to the problem. I found that if I clear the check-box for "Show Preview" in the file save dialog box, the file saves normally. Tri-tools.com has been very cooperative in offering help, rather than simply saying "We don't support Linux" as so many developers do when asked for help. Here is a paste of their latest response to information that I had given them: >> If a report file is generated, it will be stored in your Temp folder. The >>file will start with VC and have an extension of .vccrd. >> >>The crash info that you already submitted was sufficient to find the cause, >>though. It was reduced on the tray and its icon was blinking to notify that there were new messages / activities in channels or private messages. I clicked on it to restore the window and see the messages and wine gave me this backtrace (see the attachment). I was forced to quit mIRC and restart it again. This rarely happens, so it's not a real problem for me, but I don't know if it could help you fix this. Other infos: - Executable path: D:\mIRC\mirc.exe - mIRC Version: 7.72 (the latest one). - mIRC running in portable mode from a specific drive (on Wine, D:\) formatted in NTFS. - mIRC was running using some custom scripts. The main menu is fully visible, the mouse cursor itself too, but it's not actually possible to click on any of the buttons (or other interactive elements). Nothing seems to happen, when clicking on anything. Note: In winecfg, it's necessary to "Emulate a virtual desktop". Otherwise the game will start in full screen mode, and due to that described non-interactivity, it becomes impossible to leave the game anymore, so you will get perpetually stuck unless rebooting the computer. SUMMARY Under the wrong circumstances, a program doing many memory allocations from multiple threads can experience more than 100x performance degradation. I'm seeing this in my own Rust program, which has 16 sometimes-compute-bound threads on a 12 CPU machine. This works fine on Microsoft Windows and when compiled for Linux. Under Wine, it can be over 100x slower. Multiple threads are banging on a spinlock at _InterlockedCompareExchange [Z:\usr\src\packages\BUILD\include\winnt.h:6630] in ntdll spin_lock [Z:\usr\src\packages\BUILD\dlls\ntdll\sync.c:937] in ntdll This is the spin lock around the queue for pausing threads. DISCUSSION This looks like futex congestion. That's a known kind of problem, but doesn't seem to have been seen in Wine before. It may be that some programs just run really slow under Wine, and nobody knows why. The code in NTDLL is clearly intended to handle the fast case without doing an OS-level lock. Under light load, that's O(1). But under heavy load, with multiple threads pounding on spinlocks, each spinlock waits longer, and there are multiple threads, so it becomes O(N^2). Which means huge slowdowns. See discussion at https://forum.winehq.org/viewtopic.php?t=37688 which has snippets of the code that's causing the problem. Install TortoiseSVN in a 64-bit wine prefix. 2. Try to run TortoiseMerge.exe with the wine prefix mentioned in step 1. For example, run "wine TortoiseMerge.exe" from a terminal if the default wine prefix was used. Current behavior: TortoiseMerge closes before showing a window. No TortoiseMerge window appears. Expected behavior: TortoiseMerge is expected to start, allowing the user to compare and merge files in a windowed GUI. Additional information: A download for the current version of the TortoiseSVN installer as of this report is at https://osdn.net/projects/tortoisesvn/storage/1.14.1/Application/TortoiseSV… A log showing terminal output when trying to run "wine TortoiseMerge.exe" is attached. Opinion: This is one of 2 bugs preventing using TortoiseSVN fully in wine. The other is 50756. If these 2 bugs are fixed, TortoiseSVN could be used fully, easing the transition of users whose jobs rely on SVN to Linux. Currently some companies still use SVN and I've tried all the free SVN clients for Linux, and none of them come close to the level of convenience and intuitiveness that TortoiseSVN provides. I have nemo actions ready to enable full usage in of TortoiseSVN in Linux if these 2 bugs are fixed. This would help me personally tremendously, as digging through old revisions in alternate SVN branches is part of my job and extremely difficult with any SVN client other than TortoiseSVN using TortoiseMerge. Neither of them work in Wine. 1. After performing a manual save in the game, a 'save successful' message is shown on the screen, however, if I open the <Load game> menu, it is empty. 2. When the player dies there is an option to restore the last saved game: clicking on this option results in a crash as can be seen in the attached log file. The demo version doesn't let you save the game, but it does perform an autosave, thus the crash can be reproduced with the demo too. Here's how: 1. install the demo, the game needs native d3dx9_36 and dxdiagn (bug #32163). 2. start the demo with Lockdown.exe, skip the intros. In the menu choose <Single Player> - <Start Mission> and wait until the game is loaded. 3. press '4' to instruct teammates to stay back. There will be some bad guys around the corner, step to them without shooting so the player dies pretty soon. 4. the menu with statistics appears, click on <Load Last Save>...the game crashes at this point. There's nothing serious in the terminal, the game's own log file contains: [ERROR | IkeStateMgr::SaveGame | 735] Could not open file c:/program files/ubisoft/red storm entertainment/rainbow six lockdown demo/data/save/game/autosave.sav This directory structure does exist in Wine: C:/Program Files/Ubisoft/Red Storm Entertainment/Rainbow Six Lockdown Demo/data/save Inside ../save there should be a /game directory which contains the saved games. This directory (as well as an autosave.sav) should be created when you start the first mission. For some reason the /game directory is not created in Wine. Workaround: you have to manually create the /game directory before starting the game the first time. TeraTerm sets ReadIntervalTimeout to MAXDWORD and then calls ReadFile asynchronously, and if there's pending IO it waits 1 second for the overlapped struct event to be signalled. If the signal is received, it processes the received I/O, else continues on and will perform another ReadFile. This is the code snippet: if (!ReadFile(cv->ComID,&(cv->InBuff[cv->InBuffCount]), InBuffSize-cv->InBuffCount,&C,&rol)) { if (GetLastError() == ERROR_IO_PENDING) { if (WaitForSingleObject(rol.hEvent, 1000) != WAIT_OBJECT_0) { C = 0; } else { GetOverlappedResult(cv->ComID,&rol,&C,FALSE); } } What's happening in WINE, is ReadFile returns non-zero with ERROR_IO_PENDING and the WaitForSingleObject times out. The asynchronous read *does* complete after the timeout, but by that point the application has given up and moved on. I initially thought the application was at fault, because it should retry if the wait times out. However, in the documentation for ReadFile it points to documentation about COMMTIMEOUTS (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/win32/api/winbase/ns-winbase-commt…) which says the following: A value of MAXDWORD, combined with zero values for both the ReadTotalTimeoutConstant and ReadTotalTimeoutMultiplier members, specifies that the read operation is to return immediately with the bytes that have already been received, even if no bytes have been received. To me, that means Wine ought not to be triggering an asynchronous read when the comm timeout parameters are set as indicated above. I coded a simple fix, which is in NtReadFile, if avail_mode is TRUE return success even if no bytes were read. See attached patch. As I check the console output, I get *massive spam* of the following message: err:d3d:wined3d_debug_callback 0x8aea440: "GL_INVALID_OPERATION error generated. Query object not found.". It repeats over and over again until I need to kill the executable. The latest log file I saved, I counted that this error message was repeated over 18.3 MILLION times (yes, you read it right), making the log file itself almost 2GB at size. Only, and only this single message was repeated, nothing else. Console output before the spam was as showed in the attachment. I'm sorry I don't provide the full log, since it contains over 20 000 lines of text. If someone sees that important, please let me know. Basically, the lines showed in the attachment were repeated over and over again from the very beginning, until the massive spam of that 'GL_INVALID_OPERATION' error appeared just before the game were accessing in-game menu which contains DX11 graphics. Used configuration: Wine 2.4 git + Wine-staging-git, no dll overrides, clean 64-bit prefix. No CSMT or any other Staging related stuff enabled in winecfg. I have previously filed a bug about Mathematica not being able to install: URL: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11725 And this same bug in one report which will be marked as invalid: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11765 The errors of this report is: - Some characters are not displayed as they should. Writing an expression like: (2+x)/(x^2-3) will be showed as (2+x)}(x^2-3). Note the "/" is changed by "}", but double "//" is correctly showed as "//". Also Pressing x² makes Mathematica crashes just becouse the correct expression is x^2 and not x² or x³. Also there seems to be some conditions for the "/" to be drawed, like if it is preceded by a variable o number: see 1/x or x/(x-3) then the "/" will be drawed, but if is is preceded by a ) or ] then "}" will be drawed: (x-3)/x or Sin[x]/x. Thats wear. - Mathematical representation is badly printed. When you enter expressions like (2+x)/(x^2-3) Mathematical has the really nice feature of showing this as a nice looking fraction. Also it can represent it with ascii characters if you choose that, but with wine, it doesn't shows the goodlooking expression and shows a terrible badly drawed ascii expression. Just to say, "1/x" can not be readed with this expression. But i am not entirely sure when and why. Trying a bit furder and i can get some examples which are correctly drawn: Sqrt[x-3] (x-3)^2//Expand But a fraction will not be correctly displayed: (2+x)/(x^2-3) Maybe this has something to do with the first error that mathematica will show a "}" instead of a "/": (2+x)}(x^2-3) All this errors were tested on ubuntu 7.10 AMD64 and with wine 0.9.55 (becouse .56 is not available yet for ubuntu on your repos) and with all builtin dlls, but also some natives does the same results. It is only one of other errors of Mathematica. I have no logs for that. Cheers. I have been running ddrescue non-stop for a few days now and data is slowly being recovered. This means the CDROM drive is permanently busy at all times with a disk that is unreadable and unmountable under normal circumstances (this is important). When I try to launch a wine application via Wine I find that Wine attempts to access the CDROM drive, I can hear the CDROM drive making noises as if starting/stopping but nothing ever happens, can hear the drive clicking as in starting and stopping, the wine application I'm trying to run never start, I can see some wine .exe processes in D state, I guess waiting for the CDROM drive to become available. I can see this in the console: 0058:err:sync:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 000000006CDCB040 "dlls/mountmgr.sys/device.c: device_section" wait timed out in thread 0058, blocked by 0064, retrying (60 sec) It seems that when a drive is unreadable or inaccessible wine freezes and continually re-tries access to the drive. This also means that Wine interferes with ddrescue when trying to access the CDROM drive, because the disk is unreadable and both applications try to access no Wine application ever starts, and if it does (winecfg) it freezes, so I end in a situation Wine doesn't work and it bothers ddrescue. Is there a way to start Wine applications making them ignore the CDROM Drive? In the Wine control panel I can get rid of the Z drive for example but not the CDROM drive... I also tried to go into the Wine prefix under "dosdevices" and removed: d:: -> /dev/sr0 Then tried to link d:: to /dev/null but wine recreates the link to the drive as e:: -> /dev/sr0 and tries to access the CDROM again.
