Tests for URL functions in shlwapi

I've started on some tests in shlwapi. I've added the following file to the tests directory under shlwapi, but I can't include it in a cvs diff, because I don't have write access to the repository. Any hints as to diffing a new file cleanly w/o write access to CVS? These tests compile and run clean with the last CVS tree I pulled (a few days ago). I need to flesh them out, but it's a start. Visual-MinGW generates the right makefile indeed, from user parameters in the ".prj" file. There is three possibilities: - makefile.wine - configure.in/Makefile.am > configure script. - modifying params in ".prj" files. I will change the parameters in ".prj" files, then generated makefiles should work for both MinGW and Wine. Though, I don't have a solution for -fvtable-thunks. About configuration files, I started a new project called MSYS Here, which is a MSYS loader. With it, MSYS can be launched from Windows Explorer, the same way than the "DOS Prompt Here" power toy. The sources are in the MinGW CVS: http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/mingw/utils/msys-here/ I'll have to write configuration files for it, as well as for WinUI, which both Visual-MinGW and MSYS Here use. I'm not an Autotools guru, but if it works, I'll also commit configuration files to visual-mingw/winui. Then, I'll maybe write configuration files for Visual-MinGW as well. I read over the Packagers Guide and here is a short list of things that I found that need looking into. I could use some help, input on this. --- 1.3. Further, no default is currently provided by Wine. this has changed ? Wine does not completely support a complex multi-user installation ala Windows NT, but it could fairly readily. Wine Static and Shareable Files 2 Shared Object Library Files list 139 now there is 167 ? 3 Man Pages No winemaker man page listed 4 Include Files list 132 files is this list upto date ? 5 Documentation files. Need to make a list of Doc files. --- 5.1. OpenLinux Sample And why not a ditro independent Sample ? 1 Building the package this section needs updated Wine.ini ??? --- Chapter 6. I was one of the folks who advised Sun as they were bringing file locking to Java (in "JSR-51"), and we had some fun discussions about how to define file locking in Java so it would map properly onto either Windows or Unix. One thing I recall is that W. Richard Stevens has a nice discussion of Unix locking in chapter 12 of "Advanced Programming in the Unix environment", published 1993. It aged fairly well, I think, and provides a bit of insight into how locking evolved -- and some problems with mandatory locking (e.g. mandatory locking didn't prevent ed from editing a file!) Note that mandatory locking is not part of Posix (http://www.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/007904975/toc.htm) JSR-51 decided to map Java file locks to mandatory locks on Windows, and advisory locks on Unix. Visual-MinGW: Winelib patch

Hi Manu, I got around getting Visual-MinGW to compile under Winelib. This patch touches only your makefile, and I hope the changes are not controversial: -- Use forward slash instead of backslash -- Explicitly list the DLLs you link against (shell32, comdlg32, advapi32) -- It make sense to specify -mno-cygwin For some reason, the code seems to require it. Please check that it works under Windows as well. If it does, if makes sense to have it as Visual-MinGW should not have a dependency on Cygwin, as far as I can tell. -- Do not use -pedantic, the code does not compile with gcc 3.2 on Linux with that flag. -- Do not use -fvtable-thunks, it is deprecated in gcc 3.2 Please apply this patch with 'patch -p1 < winelib.diff'. Note that I still need to get some changes integrated into the official Wine tree before you can actually compile Visual-MinGW under Winelib. The changes are not controversial, and I hope to get them in real soon. I will let you know when that happens. Regardless, I think the changes I'm proposing are logical in and of themselves, so I figured they can be integrated regardless. Windows 2000 Pro conformance test update

Here is an update using precompiled binaries from 12/28/02. Not that dsound test complains msvcrtd.dll is missing on my system, and so has not been tested. I always seem to believe it is spelled qou*. Despite working with Unix more than 10 year I STILL frequently type "qouta" instead of "quota" when I wish to check for available quota. I probably mistyped it over 100 times during these years but I never seem to learn. Unlearning/relearning some things are hard... :-) Anyway. Here is the patch again with this fixed (hopefully). *** winapi_cleanup * tools/winapi_check/nativeapi.pm, tools/winapi/winapi_cleanup, tools/winapi/winapi_cleanup_options.pm: Added --include-quotes option that fixes #include to use the correct of <> and "".

Debugger / wineconsole problem

Hi all, I have a little annoying problem with the wineconsole / winedbg : as soon as I switch to another window and come back to the debugger, I loose keyboard input. Mouse input still works fine. I have also often graphical glitches (ie I have only garbage when scrolling due to a newline being displayed). The scollbar seems also to be non-functionnal. In fact, that would make a good test case to add to Wine, if you really wanted go for it.

I have a windows-free installation of current CVS wine, with wordpad.exe and the needed DLLs pulled in from a Windows ME installation. wordpad works great. However, ShellExecute(... "wordpad.exe", ".\\stl\\readme.wri" ...) is failing to find wordpad.exe for me. (The call in question is issued by the msvc4.0 setup.exe. The current directory when I run this is /mnt/cdrom, and stl/readme.wri is indeed there.) To get some insight on how this is supposed to work, I went to a real Windows Me system, searched the registry for references to "wordpad.exe", and removed them, one by one, testing after each deletion. The reference that mattered was [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\WORDPAD.EXE] @="C:\\Progra~1\\Access~1\\WORDPAD.EXE" So I ran "regedit foo.reg" to import the above registry key, and made sure it does show up in ~/.wine/system.reg. Still didn't work. I then ran wine --debugmsg +exec,+file,+reg setup.exe to see whether Wine was properly searching that registry key. Sure enough, Wine is trying to search that key, and it's not finding it. So... what's wrong? Best I can figure is there's something fishy about what registry file is being loaded. Now it finds that key (!) but unfortunately, the only change is that the line warn:reg:_get_wine_registry_file_format_version Couldn't open /usr/local/etc/wine.systemreg for reading: No such file or directory no longer shows up in the log. I'm pretty sure this is supposed to work, but I'm having trouble untangling it. Help would be greatly appreciated. File locking ... need info

[Please reply e-mail; I don't yet subscribe.] I am interested in support for file-locking and locking of specified regions of a file, in order to support databases such as MS-Access and Paradox. But as I ponder the various likely-looking segments of the source-code, I really do not know where to begin ... nor what has been done in this area before. It is clear that an implementation of locking must work on SMB-shares and that it should "actually lock things" in that other Windows users should see the locks as they are placed and removed. It's also clear that implementing timeouts on these locks could be "problematic," since the Unix impl. of file locking is not quite the same as Windows expects. Pointers? Comments? War-stories? Advice? "Someone already did that"s?

I've been meaning to submit the winex wineoss modifications, but haven't got around to it yet, and it might be somewhat complicated by all the changes around it lately. But this particular issue doesn't take a big patch. Basically the 'true' sample rate should be propagated back to dsound, so that it knows that the primary buffer is 48kHz and can resample secondary buffers accordingly. No changes is needed to dsound for this, wineoss's wodOpen just need to modify its waveformat input parameter if the WAVE_DIRECTSOUND flag is present, then dsound will happily convert secondary buffers to that sample rate when mixing them into the primary buffer. (Primary buffers are different, but apps that writes directly into the primary buffer are few, and they should use GetFormat and resample on their own.)

Regression in msvideo patch

Hi, [Following on from a thread on wine-users] I've had some problems recently with running the VirtualDub video post-processing package on Wine. It used to work, but then stopped working (it no longer displays the frame previews when seeking in a video file) recently. I've done a regression test and narrowed the problem down to the patch described in: http://www.winehq.com/hypermail/wine-cvs/2002/11/0187.html Before this patch (2002-11-20 13:47:00 CST), frame preview works normally in VirtualDub. Afterwards, vdub crashes when seeking. Later cvs versions don't crash but don't display frames either. The console output from Wine includes: fixme:msvideo:DrawDibRealize (0x1, 0x8f4, 0), stub just once before a load of messages similar to: fixme:psapi:EnumProcessModules (hProcess=0xffffffff, 0x425cf000, 4096, 0x405c0038) fixme:psapi:GetModuleBaseNameA (hProcess=0xffffffff, hModule=0x400000, "", 65212): stub fixme:psapi:GetModuleBaseNameA (hProcess=0xffffffff, hModule=0x425e0000, "", 65212): stub fixme:psapi:GetModuleBaseNameA (hProcess=0xffffffff, hModule=0x78000000, "", 65212): stub ... when a crash occurs; the later non-crashing versions just display loads of messages similar to the first one about DrawDibRealize. Another Wine OSS hang-at-end-of-playback bug

Hi, I'm seeing some apps hang after playing an audio sample (even after the latest fix from Eric Pouech/Dan Kegel). I've tracked it down to the following. dwBufferSize is calculated from info->fragstotal * info->fragsize: wwo->dwBufferSize = info.fragstotal * info.fragsize; whereas dwPlayedTotal is calculated using info->bytes: wwo->dwPlayedTotal = wwo->dwWrittenTotal - (wwo->dwBufferSize - info->bytes); Thus the assumption is that, at beginning and end of playback, info->fragstotal * info->fragsize == info->bytes, so that wwo->dwPlayedTotal == wwo->dwWrittenTotal. But, for my soundcard (ymfpci driver), after asking for 15 frags * 1024 bytes the situation is: fragments = 15, fragstotal = 18, fragsize = 1024, bytes = 15612 i.e. info->fragstotal * info->fragsize = 18432, info->bytes = 15612 Thus dwPlayedTotal never reaches dwWrittenTotal and the last buffer never gets marked as done. Using info->bytes for wwo->dwBufferSize does fix my problem, not sure if there's a better solution. Matt [Looking at the driver, it looks like the difference is a safety margin to stop the DSP when it reaches the end. There is a problem with Directsound and i810 soundcards. The test I just sent to wine-patches illustrates it very well. Basically sounds are being played too fast. Here's my understanding of the problem (if my memory and understanding of the logs is correct): When DSound initializes it create a primary sound buffer and invokes winmm to actually get access to a sound device. The default format of the primary buffer is 22050x16x2 (i.e. 22050Hz, 16 bit sound, stereo). This means the device it's going to get will be handled by msacm.drv which will be responsible for performing the conversions on the fly. However during the primary buffer creation DSDB_MapPrimary gets invoked in wineoss and does an mmap of the hardware sound buffer. So when we then play sound in a secondary sound buffer, this sound gets mixed into the primary buffer, but because of the mmap this then goes straight to the sound card with no further conversion. So you end up with a chipmunk sound effect since you play a 22050x16x2 sound at 48000x16x2. I will try to make more tests to confirm this but does it seem to make sense? Should I look in some other direction? Any suggestion about a fix? If you have an i810 soundcard you can reproduce by doing the following: * apply "Add WINETEST_INTERACTIVE" from wine-patches * apply "Add 'audiophile' DirectSound tests" from wine-patches * cd dlls/dsound/tests * make * WINETEST_INTERACTIVE=1 ../../../tools/runtest -P wine -M dsound.dll -T ../../.. -p dsound_test.exe.so dsound.c (you can also set WINETEST_DEBUG=2 to get more debug info about the test's buffer management, though this is probably not relevant here) Alternately, you can download the latest Windows test binaries from my site (http://fgouget.free.fr/wine/winetests.zip) and run them using Wine, or on Windows: set WINETEST_INTERACTIVE=1 dsound_test dsound Actually I would be interested in the results of this test on Windows: * the test tone is usually played three times. Are all three, and especially the first one, at the right pitch? * what is the output of the test? I'm interested in reported capabilities as stated by Windows and Wine for instance (to determine whether the primary buffer is emulated for instance). * what is the primary buffer's default format? 22050x16x2? tests: ok(0,"foo") prints a '\n'!

I noticed that the oleaut32/safearray test uses statements such as: ok(a->cDims == i,"a->cDims not initialised?\n"); But it is not necessary to add a '\n' to ok statements. All it does is insert an extra '\n' after each test error. I could send a patch to fix this (small) issue, but I think this behavior of 'ok' is wrong. It goes against the convention established by all other functions such as printf, TRACE, ERR and even the test framework's own trace function. None of these appends a '\n'. 'ok' is the exception there and safearray is not the first test (nor the last) to get caught by this. So if noone objects I'll send a patch that stops 'ok' from appending this '\n', and adds a '\n' to all calls to ok. make uninstall trying to remove aclocal??

Hi, I note that at the end of make uninstall the scripts seem to be attempting to remove a shared directory. I really am not sure this is a good idea, or at the least the desired action is not taking place... In my case the directory is actually a link, but I think you should not be removing it anyway. Eric, Thanks for the response. I'm just back from Christmas travels and trying to get caught up. As an experiment I took an older Redhat 7.0 machine and loaded the newest CVS on it. That machine ran wcmd just fine. However, on this RH 7.3 machine it does not. To me this is a problem to have a major distribution not run this part of Wine. Disappointing. Can you suggest a good site for getting more info on Linux fonts? I am no Linux guru and really just try to have it be a tool. I'm not a software guy. So, yes, this is most certainly an error on my part, and your fix is likely the correct one. Out of curiosity, what is your platform? I am slightly surprised that off_t compiles at all without sys/types.h, even on linux... Would you be so kind as to change that to cab_off_t, and then run the compile again to make sure that we've really eliminated all the off_t's in there? Let me know your results and I will submit a patch including this, and the renaming I discussed before. A random thought: It's notable, that cab_off_t is unsigned, whereas off_t is signed. I began, but did not finish, the process of pouring over the source to ensure this is a nonissue. Perhaps, I might sleep easier if I just turned it back to a signed INT32, although if I recall, I used to think I had a good reason not to do that. Before I submit I'll take a look at that once more, as well. However it is generally felt that this is not a priority and that actually implementing stuff and fixing bugs is more important; which is hard to argue against ;-) I don't know how to convey all this nicely. * Localization work Concerning the translation of the main documentation I think we are not ready for it yet. Currently we barely manage to maintain the English documentation so adding translations does not seem like a good idea. Unless the translators 'pledge' to also maintain the English documentation. However, I believe there is still useful localization work that can be done: - translating the README and maintaining the translation - translating the Wine resources and messages it issues (but not the debug message of course) It might also be worth having a sort of 'QuickStart/Howto' document that would describe the basic instructions for installing and configuring Wine in a bit more details than the README while being much smaller than the Wine User Guide (it could actually be a chapter of that guide).
