This might be a silly question, but... d3dx8 is supposed to be linked statically in applications that might use it.... is there any sense to implement it? (this is not the case for d3dx9_xx.dll) I found this information there : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=fc60231e-895d-489d… in the readme of the file to download.

Here is an updated version of the patches. Can you retest the games? (the ones that worked already as well as the broken ones) What are the differences? -> Proper handling of RHW vertices which do not come from a vbo(should fix Star Wars Jedi Knight 1) -> Proper handling of the alpha value in the lighting code(+ a test). Fixes the water in AoM. Those issues had a quite big effect potentially, so more games may be fixed now.

A problem with this is that a default OpenAL install will have an OpenAL->DSound wrapper as a fallback.. so if you have a DSound->OpenAL wrapper and a OpenAL->DSound wrapper at the same time, you obviously get some problems. ALchemy got around this by loading ct_oal.dll directly, bypassing the wrapper (at least in the free beta they had). So it can work in Wine, with an OpenAL32 DLL thunk and a bit more work on both sides, but it working in Windows without locking down to specific drivers will be a bit more difficult.

Just file a bug report, assign it to me, and make it clear that this new code breaks things. I have one reported problem fixed already, and I am currently working on AoM. I'll send an updated set of patches later today. My sense is that there aren't many bugs, but more like 2-3 problems breaking a lot of games.
