If you are interested in owning R4, that's fine by me. For what it's worth, from 1993-97 I was a programmer on the team that designed and wrote Notes R4 and R5 (Iris Associates) so I have some knowledge of application internals (although, sadly, no source code.) Lotus Notes application owner

I was under the impression that there already was one, but it looks like I was mistaken. I will volunteer to own the Notes *R4* client, which I regularly use. (I suggest having a different owner for Notes R5.) My employer only recently began providing a VPN access option for Linux, so I've only been back to using Notes with Wine for a few weeks, but it seems to be working very well. After searching through the docs to see why there isnt any code in wine to run the normal windows bootup routines, i.e. Run/RunOnce/winboot.ini, see bug 717, I found something mentioning winebootup in the programs directory. I did a search for it on my whole system and didn't find it. What happened to it? Does anyone still have an old copy of it, I would like to put some of it's code directly into wine, or maybe reimplement it if it was problematic... Like you say regular Unix gdb doesn't have any support for wine's threads, but as the gdb docs day 'there is a workaround which isn't too painful'. Another thing you don't get (aside from support for .PDBs, .DBGs, 16-bit code and JIT) is automatic loading of symbols. For the symbols, you can create a gdb command file: $ cat syms set gnutarget pei-i386 add-symbol-file HelloWin.exe add-symbol-file HelloDll.dll And you can do one too for starting up your program and breaking at WinMain: $ cat strt tbreak main r HelloWin.exe tbreak start_process c source syms tbreak WinMain c Then you can debug your program like this: $ gdb -x strt wine same for ddd: $ ddd -x strt wine To single step though the code of another thread, you could use the technique outlined the gdb manual for fork, or probably easier is to get the thread to invoke the debugger on itself by adding a line like this at the place you want to break: WinExec("y:\\bin\\debugme", SW_NORMAL); and create a script to lunch gdb (or ddd, etc): $ cat ~/bin/debugme #!/bin/sh echo Debugging wine process $PPID gdb -x syms wine $PPID In the debugger get a backtrace and you'll see WinExec maybe 6 frames up the stack, so you'd type 'up 6' then 'finish' and from there you'll be stepping though your own code. On my machine, at least, gdb attaches quickly enough for the thread to still be in WinExec, but not if I use a front end like ddd. Anyway if on your setup you find it's already moved on then just add a small delay such as 'Sleep(5000);' after the WinExec (then of course you'll be looking for 'Sleep' on the backtrace instead of 'WinExec').

Asymmetric mouse movement in DGA2 mode

Hi: I patched 'windows/x11drv/event.c' to run Starcraft in DGA2 mode. In DGA2 I noticed that the mouse movement is't symmetric, ie: mouse speed when moving left/up < mouse speed when moving right/down. To fix this, I modified 'dlls/x11drv/mouse.c', adding: void X11DRV_DGAMotionEvent( HWND hwnd, XDGAMotionEvent *event ) { update_key_state( event->state ); // HACK: fix asymmetric mouse motion if(event->dx < 0) event->dx *= 2; if(event->dy < 0) event->dy *= 2; send_mouse_event( hwnd, MOUSEEVENTF_MOVE, event->dx, event->dy, 0, event->time ); } (just empirical values) Why does this happen? Is there any cleaner solution? Observation: in 'send_mouse_event' says: "/* Relative mouse movements seem not to be scaled as absolute ones */" BTW, in this application, when the mouse reaches the border of the screen (moving the mouse cursor out of the window), the view is supposed to be scrolled in that direction. CoMarshalInterface (IUnknown)

Is this a trivial thing to fix? Currently the code simply ends up looking for the proxy in the registry. Everything is reasonable fro IClassFactory but of course IUnknown isn't in there because it should be inherent in the system itself. Bill

Wine front-end -- winespy

I am finishing a gui front end for wine that allows to start and stop wine app on the fly, capture wine output and filter debug cannels as required. It's done calling wine with --debugmesg +all and filtering it, so it'll slow down in some extents wine app.... For the moment I didn't find a way to remotely control wine debug channels from my app. I think that with little wine code changes it would be possible, i.e. passing a pipe to wine with something like --debugpipe num, and using it to start-stop debug channels output on the fly... But I can't code it.... If someone knows how to implement that stuff, I'd be glad to change my app... it would be much faster than now. BTW, I'll post my app (a QT based one) on next days after some testing. Regards Max

This bug exists for a long time. See bug 466 http://bugs.winehq.com/show_bug.cgi?id=466 There are comments that this issue is fixed in Codeweavers wine and Crossover Office. What is the reason the fix is not in the main tree? If the fix is too hackish I still would like if information about the cause was added to the bug description. Nope, environment variables are not global enough. Some posters have proposed using autofs to do the mounting. That's a good idea if it saves work and lets you have the per-user semantics you want. So all you need to do is implement an smbfs that uses the user's token to validate each open/rm/mv, and you're done. It's been a while since I looked at the compilation options of the kernel, but there used to be specific support for java applets in the kernel (running a userland jvm, mind you). That was later deprecated by a "MISC" handler, that (I guess) could be configured to run java, and probably also PE. The idea is that trying to execve a PE file, will find the userland wine program and run it. This would make your effort needless.
