How well does WINE run if you have a Window$ CD?

Hello, most potential WINE users already own a Windows CD. This is obvious because if you want to run a Windows program on Linux it is because you are probably already using it, and this means you have Windows installed somewhere. Now, if I have the Windows CD I can copy all the needed DLLs(and whatever else) to the correct Directory. Now my question how well does WINE run if you follow this approach? If Wine doesn't work 100% doing it this way, I think this should be the main focus, because after this works, it will be just a question of time till we replace all DLLs with our own ones, one at a time. What about DirectX? Can we use those DLLs? I suppose they need Windows drivers so they might not work with Linux. But would it be possible to make the Windows drivers work on Linux so that DirectX would run? I think this would be a good intermediary goal, especially for all those companies wanting to switch from Windows to Linux because they already have Windows CDs. Roland

STACK LIMITS: error on lauch program

Hi friends Somme programs like Delphi3 and a instaled version od iMesh return a error: "err:seh:EXC_DefaultHandling Exception frame is not in stack limits => unable to dispatch exception." and dont run. what can i make to do run my application...? what is this error and where are is located in wine..? First you want to make sure that you're using client side rendered fonts, for this you'll need to have a version of the freetype library installed with version >= 2.0.5 you'll also require some TrueType fonts in c:\windows\Fonts. WINE Performance tweaking and known bottlenecks

What options/tricks/techniques can I use to enhance performance under WINE. I am trying to get Total Annihilation to run smoothly on a K6-2 233MHz machine, it runs and is getting close to playable. The only unusual thing is that the framerate is the same at 1024x768 as in 640x480. What is likely to be the bottleneck and what can I do about it? I'm willing to go into the code if neccessary. I have limited programming ability but I am an exceptionally fast learner.

[help] GDI text fonts

Dear all, When we are working on the Chinese support on WINE using Lotus Notes r5, we found that the fonts display for the interface is very ugly (attached the screepshot). I would like to change to have different font when detected English or Chinese. Could somebody point me where I could start with? Also, for a text document, the gdi text and font are used to store them, I would like to ask where can I find the structure to store and the code to manipulate it (e.g. send for display/print (pExtTextOut? but where called pExtTextOut))? Hello everybody, I was searching Google for info about RtlGetNtVersionNumbers and I came across this message, http://www.winehq.com/hypermail/wine-users/2001/12/0488.html, posted on wine-users. Unfortunately, the attachment is not there. Does anyone know what happened to this patch? It doesn't appear to have been sent to wine-patches nor did it make it into the CVS. Perhaps the patch was incorrect as he said his implementation might be off. If this is the case, does anyone have more info about RtlGetNtVersionNumbers? Thanks, Josh

(PATCH) SPI_GETDESKWALLPAPER Implementation

Hello, this is my first real patch for Wine. It implements the SystemParametersInfo SPI_GETDESKWALLPAPER action and fixes SPI_SETDESKWALLPAPER so it updates the Wallpaper entry in the registry. (Wine Bug-Tasklet #461) I've also included a simple test for these two actions. Getting CUPS printer to work in wine

After updating to the current CVS I get the following error message: trace:psdrv:PSDRV_CreateDC (WINEPS Printer LPT1: (nil)) To use WINEPS you need to install some AFM files. I believe this may be why I can't get printing to work. But do I really need AFM files to get printing to work? The printing doc says you don't need them for type 1 fonts. I've attached a trace of the printing errors just in case this isn't the cause of the problem. TIA for the help, Josh

Eric, List, I have reported what appears to be a regression bug in Wine's multimedia subsystem (Bug #817). When running Baldur's Gate with recent builds of Wine, the game plays but without any sound. Earlier build ran the game with wine. The last known good build from CVS appears to be 2002-05-21 21:45:00 EDT. This looks like it may be related to the patch mmsystem.c commited by Alexandre Tue May 21 2002 - 20:52:31 CDT? I have attached the output from 'wine --debugmsg trace+relay Baldur.exe' to the bug report. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do to assist in debugging this. Ian

The SmartForms installer failed because the SFSERV.DLLcould not be found (needed by SFSETUP.EXE). In the INI file, SETUP.LST, the Params section contains a list of files to be uncompressed to the temporary directory ~SFSETUP. Since GetProfileString returned only the number of characters in the first string, the installer only copied the installer executable SFSETUP.EXE but not the necessary supporting files (DLLs, etc). This sounds very similar to the problem reported in bug 724. Josh

Hallo, to my knowledge, viewing the patch contend can at the moment only be done by webpages with an address like http://cvs.winehq.com/patch.py?id=XXX, where XXX can only be known from the postings from wine-cvs(a)winehq.com. I would propose that we create another page, where all the patches are listed with their subject ( like "wine/server thread.c" for "http://cvs.winehq.com/patch.py?id=1024708836163791355983452"), the subject being a link to the real patch and the newest patches added to the top of the patch. If you could debug it, that would be great. Try something like --debugmsg +relay,+winspool,+psdrv,+print and add tons of traces to get more detailled info on why the supposedly autoconfiguring CUPS stuff fails.
