Does the '-D' (depth) option to rdesktop not work as intended? The manpage also says it autodetects your X session's bit depth and matches it. What version of rdesktop are you using? I've also used rdesktop for remotely administering servers over a 256K link. While not speedy, it's definitely more responsive than VNC. -- Steve Langasek postmodern programmer

I'm currently running rdesktop-1.1.0-pl19-8-5, and I don't notice a difference between that and the Microsoft client. The patch level releases aren't exactly 'prominently' displayed for download.. Hi Rikki, My patch was designed to the brazilian ABNT-2 keyboard as a workaround. On these keyboards we have two deak keys and <shift> <6> that produces accented letters when followed by a vowel. It is also used in Brazil standard US keyboards and some simbols are mapped as dead keys ("´`~^). My patch doesn´t even fix this kind of keyboard. What my patch does is to force the xkb to proccess that keys as dead keys. Does your keyboard works correclty on X sessions (using a standard window manager - please notice that KDE has its own keyboard treatment routines)? Maybe it is a question of editing the /etc/X11/XFConfig to use your keymap. I suppose that the correct solution is to implement on keyboard.c a specific dead key replacement code, and having specific dead key tables for all keyboards, but it requires a major change that must be validated by other wine users. For the most part, issues with Wine (the free version) are my responsibility at TransGaming, so the others aren't seen much here. A humble request for help

Hi Everyone, I'm currently working on a thesis investigating how Open Source is affected by the influence of money and the interests of commercial companies. As the WINE efforts is the foundation of companies such as Codeweavers, Transgaming and Lindows, it is interesting to study how their entrance to the scene have affected the community. The thesis as well as research papers surrounding it will be released under the GNU Free Documentation License and as soon as the first drafts are available they will be published so that the community may comment upon it. In order to improve the research, it would be great if you guys could spend a few minutes on this one. I have included below a list of the most active persons on this mailinglist during the year 2002. I have tried to establish their employer as far as e-mail adresses and google could help me out, but there are lots of unknowns, and probably some errors too. So please, send me patches. Also, if you belive that there are others who should be on this list, I've only got one person from Transgaming so far, don't they contribute or are they simply silent on the mailinglist? If there are someone out there who would be willing to answer some more detailed questions, such as how long they've been doing Open Source development as a source of income and how they think it have affected them and their efforts, please drop me a line. Wine debugging tutorial?

The tutorial up on winehq.org on how to use WineDbg, while pretty useful, seems a tad out of date (lots of references to 16 bit constructs etc). Does anybody know of any good tutorials on how to use low level code debuggers such as this? Coming from a delphi background, I'm more used to the integrated debugging style, and I'm finding more and more that the wine traces don't always provide useful information, so I'd like to master this tool. Oh, also, how do you use the ncurses backend (I think eric mentioned one recently).
