First, to generate summaries I have to correlate files anyway, which *is* problematic already, and having a master file could only make it simpler and also make the cause more obvious if some inconsistency is found. Second, we want to include build failure reports, which can be lengthy (eg. compiler logs), and do not seem to belong to the test results. For an example, see how the dsound test build failure is noted on the page. Since it has nothing to do with the running environment, that would also feel more natural to me. Sure, all the info could be included in the reports, but I see no point in bloating them with too much static info for little (if any) benefit. One more thing, I really do not have the faintest idea about how to integrate this into the WineHQ page. There may be reasons there, too, like eg. the need to notify the system about a new build, which could be done by uploading the information skeleton... Feel free to persuade me, I am not attached. Start menu (especially for Alexandre Julliard)

OK people, As I understand (from the explanation by Russell Howe (thanx:-))), there is a script called wineshelllink that is supposed to install the created start menu items in your KDE menu. First of all: this script does not seem to do anything on my installation (Slackware 9). Are there known problems with this script? Second: from looking at the script it seems that this menu is not synchronized with the actual contents of your start menu, which would seem more fancy to me. Because Windows users will be aquainted with the fact that the Start menu directory actually contains the contents of the start menu. What I would propose is a system in which the contents of the wine menu would be in continuous synchronization with your start menu. That would mean: * Less error prone coding (no need for extra scripts etc) * More forward functionality (moving in the folder will actually result in moving in the menu as well) * Better support for applications (links that are not written through api calls will actually show up as well) * Ability to copy links between Windows installation and Wine installation Wouldn't you agree such a system would be better? EU patent news

The anti patent petition was a success, the EU law approved on the 24th has been changed so much sine the original version that software freedom is preserved, so decss will stay legal in europe, thanks to all that signed the petition. Member states shall ensure that data processing is not considered to be a field of technology in the sense of patent law, and that innovations in the field of data processing are not considered to be inventions in the sense of patent law. 6. The rights conferred by patents granted for inventions within the scope of this Directive shall not affect acts permitted under Articles 5 and 6 of Directive 91/250/EEC on the legal protection of computer programs by copyright, in particular under the provisions thereof in respect of decompilation and interoperability. 6a. Member States shall ensure that, wherever the use of a patented technique is needed for a significant purpose such as ensuring conversion of the conventions used in two different computer systems or networks so as to allow communication and exchange of data content between them, such use is not considered to be a patent infringement.

Yes, it would be one way to implement it (and arguably it's the right way in an X environment, there's no reason for Wine to duplicate that functionality). I'm not sure how well Xnest supports X extensions and hardware acceleration, though that could probably be fixed. The other problem is that it will cause us to create X windows on different displays within the same hierarchy, and this doesn't work correctly at this point. I am still lacking the need to have this script. If someone really wants to build parts of WINE on Windows we should really only support MSYS+Mingw or MS_VC. I dont think there are that many people that want to build WINE programs that need extra help. I can try to write better documentation for the MSYS+Mingw build if you want. Hello Aleksey Ge and I discussed trying to attend LinuxTax in Germany. The only problem with this is that I think my wife may be due at the same time as LinuxTag!!! I would still like for us to try and do a conf in Germany though. Vizzini suggested alternating ReactOS confs in the US and EU every other year so maybe we could partner with the WINE project to do a join confernce once a year? I still would like to do St. Petersburg in Feb.
