Winelib Test Drive problem

Hi, I'm starting to use the latest winelib (wine-20040309 release) to try eventually compiling an windows MFC app I wrote. Before attempting this however, I'm following all directions in the winelib user guide, but the Test Drive fails and so it tells me to post to this mailing list. I named my directory winemine2 and copied the source files to this. Then ran winemaker, but it did NOT create a configure script. So I tried make, but it fails with; winebuild -o winemine2.exe.dbg.c --debug -C. dialog.c main.c winegcc -c -mno-cygwin -I. -o winemine2.exe.dbg.o winemine2.exe.dbg.c winegcc -c -mno-cygwin -I. -o dialog.o dialog.c winegcc -c -mno-cygwin -I. -o main.o main.c wrc -I. -foEn.res En.rc En.rc:23:22: Error: syntax error make: *** [En.res] Error 1 I guess if this doesn't work, nothing else might not.

OleDropTargetInterface prop on: RegisterDragDrop at: dlls/ole32/ole2.c

Dear Wine Devel list, I was reading the Drag&Drop implementation in the Wine sources and didn't find a SetProp() of the handle with the property "OleDropTargetInterface" to the IDropTarget pointer. I think it's not a well documented property (not in MSDN) but it appears to be useful if somebody (sometime) will try to automate drag&drop operations. The distinction only matters for messages that have different behavior in ASCII and Unicode, i.e. that have a string parameter or something like that. abnt2 delete keys problem

I am having the following problem with a abnt2 (Brazilian) keyboard: When the numlock is off both delete keys work correctly. If the numlock is on both key produce a delete plus a comma. The message http://www.winehq.org/hypermail/wine-patches/2002/12/0329.html appears to describe the same problem. But the proposed patch didn't work for me. Attached is a xev log. The numlock is initially on. Them the I press the middle keyboard delete, keypad delete, numlock, middle keyboard delete and keypad delete. Thanks for any help. Rafael Ávila de Espíndola

'unicode' usage in x11drv/window.c (X11DRV_CreateWindow)

Hi, while going through some of the code I saw that in the above mentioned function we sometimes do a SendMessage(A/W) depending on the setting of the unicode parameter. You also need to check for the direct sound flag. If that is set and the format is not supported, then return the closest supported format. An open of the primary buffer should not fail regardless of the format. It should just return the closest supported format. filesystem changes break autofs patch

To whoever is working on filesystem - let me remind you again (and again) that bsd autofs mountpoints do not exist until accessed - and they will not get created for removable media devices without a medium inserted, not even upon access / stat. Therefore, mapping "a:" to autofs'd "/vol/floppy" will not work in wine - any mapping to nonexistant mountpoint had been silently dropped in the past and btw one can not create a symlink to nonexistant point that easily. The unpatched wine has been unusable for autofs for a long time. I have been creating patches for a few years now integrating an option to ini file / registry but they were silently ignored. It is good if you are working again on the filesystem setup but please do not ignore autofs bsd-type automounter system! My patches do not work anymore, so I can not update to the lastest wine. OK, I'm convinced alsa is the way to go. How about using the already implemented HardwareAcceleration for setting the level of acceleration. Use Basic for a full plugin version, Standard for hw access and Full for real hardware acceleration when that becomes available. Emulation is already used for wave interface. When set to Basic, opening a primary or secondary buffer will succeed at the requested parameters regardless of hardware capabilities and all controls will be available. This would be for the typical non game user on low end hardware. Standard will open the hw device and return what format the hardware supports for the primary buffer and fail for secondary buffers if the format is not supported in hardware and only support controls available in hardware. Since this issue has directly affected me in the past I will point out a real argument for making this stuff compliant: If I copy and paste the HTML into a WWN it would be nice if I didn't have to do a ton of markup to make it well-formed. In fact, I almost never reference anything on WineHQ for that very reason. For example, in issue #143 I went through the markup for the original to-do list and corrected it (which is interesting to look at now, btw). Likewise, it's simple to copy things into the documentation. A good example of which is: http://www.winehq.com/site/status_options Parts of which may end up in the User Guide. But that's just me, and I ain't the one maintaining it. So if Dimi doesn't want it then I guess the best thing to do would be to resubmit with those parts left out. -brian

Apart from JACK which is used in pro-audio situations, sound servers are probably going to be phased out on Linux within the next 12-24 months as people migrate to the 2.6 kernel with ALSA and the dmix/asym plugins. So, I still think the best way to solve this problem is simply to have a winecfg check box that says "Use hardware accelerated audio" which people who desire better performance can tick: they incur extra CPU overhead and the benefit is that they can use all their apps together. For many uses of Wine audio support is simply required for the bling!bling! sounds programs sometimes make. I know they are considering this but it is not a priority. the extent to which you are right depends on the intended target. for pro-audio/music software, you're wrong. the APIs used by these programs do not and will not use the kinds of h/w features you mention. ASIO, in particular, does not model this kind of h/w, and there are very good reasons for that, "learned the hard way". Neither does GSIF or CoreAudio, the other two main "serious" audio APIs used by proaudio/music applications. we (i write this kind of stuff) don't use h/w features like this because the h/w is crap and there is never enough control over the algorithms. the reverbs found on audio interfaces aren't generally even close to usable for music production. and you can't use stuff like gain control because of the way the apps are structured (they are already implementing mixers with at least as much functionality as a high end mixing console). for games and some consumer software, yes, its probably true that using h/w facilities like this is desirable. there has been quite a bit of discussion about a new HAL for this stuff in ALSA over the last couple of months. some people are looking at specific cards for ideas about how to approach this. the model is still that the application code will be (more or less) identical, except perhaps for a few calls to toggle the choice of using h/w features if they exist. --p

The point of direct sound is to provide the application programmer enough information about and control over the hardware to ensure optimal performance if desired. Hiding the hardware with layers of plugins is not the optimal approach. Even Microsoft learned that lesson the hard way. Alsa's approach of providing a consistent interface requardless of the amount of code or time or CPU resources used is great if that's what you want but they also need to provide a fast path to the hardware when that's desired. I know they are considering this but it is not a priority. Handling dialogs created without using templates

Hi, I have an application that creates dialogs without using any of the Win32 Dialog creation APIs. I find that a lot of the functionality in DEFDLG_Proc (DM_SETDEFID, DM_GETDEFID & WM_NEXTDLGCTL) is unavailable for use with dialogs created this way. This is because we allocate the DIALOGINFO structure only in the dialog creation APIs. Dialogs created without using these APIs have NULL DIALOGINFO structure. I also find that allocating this structure and initializing the members of the structure will get around this problem. Does anyone visualize any problems with this approach? Also where would the best place to put such code? SHELL_NotifyIcon() just passes the messages to any existing "Shell_TrayWnd" window. Your new implementation will also create such a message receiver window.
