Wine Tools is in no illegal to use each app comes with a EULA and it is the responsibility of the end user to follow any EULA. The maintainers of Wine Tools have posted in this thread that they will look into problems that Vitaliy has brought forward. Vitaliy keeps ranting that they have had time to fix all known problems in Wine Tools.. This is a joke! in fact is worse than a joke, there a open source project and there contributors work for free and contribute when they can, this is how open source works! Vitaliy says that me and Peter don't help new users so we have no say in the way they may be treated in the future. I don't know about Peter but Ive helped new users for the last four years! Ive went out of my way many times to help people find a way to get get a app or game to install or run! And for him to make such a remark only shows his knowledge of my time spent helping new users.. And I should point out Ive never complained about helping anyone I do it because its what I want to do. I agree with the other posters here that removing the link to there site will do more harm than good. This will be my last post on this subject as well, as it's fruitless to try and convince someone hell bent on destruction to change there mind. Tom >

Thank you for the responce I tried the following, Please let me know , if more details are required - Case 1: - Stub function is declared in XXXXX_dll.h as long __stdcall STUB_Add(long, long); -Stub function is defined in XXXXX_main.c as long __stdcall STUB_Add(long x, long y) { printf ("stub function is called \n"); return 0; } In one Application , I used LoadLibrary("XXXXX.dll.so") - to load the dll GetProcAddress("") - to get the function pointer and if I call the function continuously in a loop of for 1000 times, first 2 calls are success 3rd call is crashed In another application , I used dlopen() - to load the dll dlsym - to get the function pointer and if I call the function continuously in a loop of for 1000 times, then the I got a crash after 40 - 50 times - Case 2: - Stub function is declared in XXXXX_dll.h as long STUB_Add(long, long); -Stub function is defined in XXXXX_main.c as long STUB_Add(long x, long y) { printf ("stub function is called \n"); return 0; } The first Application (that uses LoadLibrary(), GetProcAddress ...) is executed without any crash. The Second application (that uses the dlopen, dlsym() ..) is giving the same results as in case 1. Success: The Journal runs mostly great with 0.9.4...

While surfing, I ran into a "micro-ISV support blog", http://safarisoftware.typepad.com/mlp_developer_news dedicated to the very small developer. It happened to profile a guy who wrote a little notetaking application in Delphi years back just to learn the language, and who was surprised to find he could make a living selling it. It's called "The Journal", and a free demo is available from http://www.davidrm.com/download/jnl4setup.exe It seems to install and run rather well under wine-0.9.4 except for some richtext glitches, a redraw problem (just flip around between the main mode tabs of the app and watch the legend on the right below the toolbar - it gets pretty corrupt), and a bit of sluggishness. Plus, like many other apps I've tested lately, it constantly spews fixme:win:LockWindowUpdate (0x2003e), partial stub! fixme:win:LockWindowUpdate ((nil)), partial stub! [wined3d] D3DXCreateFont

I've been using some dx9 tutorial/demo apps that use the d3dx9.dll. I got this dll off the net somewhere (d3dx9_27.dll to be exact). This is just a utility library that has some helper functions for D3D apps, like font rendering etc. Oliver has mentioned that he uses some of the same apps for testing wined3d, which is why I picked them (http://www.codesampler.com/dx9src.htm) However, about half of them call D3DXCreateFont, which always fails on my system. As such, the return font object is null and so the demo crashes shortly afterwards when it tries to call a member function through the null object. All of these demos just try to load the "Arial" font, which seems to be registered. I'm just curious how Oliver, and maybe others, are running these demos if they always crash at startup. The demos do pop up a message box like "D3DXCreateFont: failed!!!" or something like that, and after you click the "OK" button, the app continues anyways, and then crashes soon after. If anyone knows how to get around this font thing I'd very much like to know! Cheers, Aric

I've been having problems with most installers as well, and noted that there were (at least) two things I had to do to get them to work at all: 1) normally I run with LC_CTYPE=ja_JP.utf8 on my system, but to get installers and other things to work with wine (especially input field type stuff) I have to run wine as "LC_ALL=C wine". I suspect IMM problems are the reason for this, but haven't tracked it down. 2) for some reason I cannot install onto my FAT partition. I have /mnt/dose mapped in Wine as e:\ (oddly enough), and if I try to install _anything_ onto it, it fails shortly after the first file or two gets copied. _But_ if I install to my wine-drive (~/.wine/drive_c mapped as c:\) then all works just fine. This is rather annoying as my home drive is getting low on space and installing large game demos for wined3d testing (which I normally put on e:\) suck up a lot of space. So Sergei: try installing to a Linux partition, and run wine with your locale set to C (or POSIX I imagine), and see if that helps. Regards, Aric

You can install IE, DCOM, MDAC, etc etc.... in Wine even without Wine Tools so your saying Wine is illegal because it lets people install IE when they don't have a Windows licence. And if you want to bitch and cry about helping people, there is a simple fix, don't help them. Ignore there post or just say im sorry I dont use WT .... I believe we should have SPREAD FIREFOX LOGO'S on the front page! IE is Illegal and "Vitaliy" has pointed this out!
