GetIDsOfNames

Hi guys, Eric Tanguy asked on wine-users a while back about getting some geography games (http://olivier.leflon.free.fr/jeux/jeux.htm) to run. These seem to be Visual Basic, so oleaut32 issues come up. We succeeded with the first one (departments of France - font size problem fixed). Next, there is the issue that some of them call GetIDsOfNames on ole font objects (countries of Europe, http://olivier.leflon.free.fr/jeux/europe.htm) OLEFontImpl_GetIDsOfNames is currently a stub. What's needed is basically just to convert the strings "Name", "Size", "Bold", etc. into DISPID_FONT_NAME, etc. In particular, this game only needs "Size." It's not hard to code that, and make the game work. I'm not sure, though, what the proper approach would be for an acceptable patch: 1. Just code in the string comparisons, ignoring the locale. (Google provides no evidence that the property names vary by locale). 2. Call GetTypeInfo to get an ITypeInfo, and call DispGetIDsOfNames on that. I think this means that the information should be extracted from stdole32.tlb. Currently this doesn't find any match for these property names. Do they need to be added to stdole32.tlb somehow? 3. Well, as we call a DDraw 'method' to create the surface, you should add the AddRef call there. Wine doesn't do so(yet), and to my current knowledge, this is what makes Empire Earth crash. *Windows does free all Surfaces, once their DirectDraw7 parent is freed. So Wine is correct in doing the same. The refcount of the surfaces doesn't matter in this case. *It's irrelevant if a D3D object is involved or not. Creating a D3D object just increases the refcount of the DirectDraw7 object and the surface, so more releases are neccessary, that's all. I am looking for a good place to place the AddRef and Release calls to solve the first issue, and I'll send a patch as soon as I have one. I hope that my Cooperative Level patch is applied at this time, this will make creating another patch easier. Stefan

wineconsole and solaris

I have managed to sort out a solution to the curses problem with wineconsole, but I noticed that -backend=user doesn't work properly either. I get a window with alternating stripes of black and the root window image and text output doesn't emerge (perhaps a font problem ?). lib/netapi32/access.c and friends

NetUserGetInfo grabs the information from a NET_USER_INFO_3 structure which is "cached" from the MSV1_0.DLL access token for example (it's a really long story). It's not a major problem here. What is, is that on windows it is possible to "inject" some code into newly created process and execute it _before_ call to entry point. This code can do pretty much anything, as long as it handles exceptions itself because default exception stack is not setup yet. For obvious reasons you can't do whole lot before LdrInitializeThunk done initializing new process. So windows queues it as an APC to the new process. This way it will be called first when the process resumes. What wine does, is not correct. Office97 Install issue

Hi, As some of you might know I really would like to see Office 97 be able to at least install and parts of it sort of work on Wine 1.0. One of the things I hope to contribute to the 1.0 effort is fixing this. I'm wondering if anyone could give me a pointer or two as to the problem. There are two issues with Winehq that prevent Office 97 from installing and I need help with issue #2 if anyone has ideas. 1. Wine needs to have the "PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE"="x86" string in the Key in HKLM\\System\\CurrentControlSet\\Control\\Session Manager\\Environment On CrossOver we are hard setting this (and we install in a Win98 bottle so it does not really matter) but for Winehq we need to properly detect and report the CPU due to Winehq default mode being Win2k. I'll try to make 30mins or so in the next couple of weeks to submit a patch that does this as I think I know where it needs to be implemented. 2. Wine is not properly handling some of the default values in key HKLM\\System\\CurrentControlSet\\Control\\Session Manager\\Environment If you notice from the diff CrossOver uses "%SystemRoot% where the default Wine system.reg had the values hard coded. My wifes Win2k box has these values set with "%SystemRoot% also. Is there a reason that Winehq is setup this way? Should they strings in the wine.inf just be changed for those values? WSACleanup() again?

I saw the bug described in: http://winehq.com/hypermail/wine-users/2001/01/0516.html happened again to a program I was trying to use. At least the behavior is the same. I have no access to the source code. It seems the problem was fixed in revision 1.42 of socket.c. But now at 1.139, WSACleanup again return 0 forever on repeating calls.
